About Live Oak Adult Day Services

Live Oak Adult Day Services has helped older adults and people with disabilities in Cupertino, CA since 1983, and they've got four locations in the Bay Area: Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Gatos, and Willow Glen. This nonprofit runs adult day programs for folks age 60 and older, mostly serving people in Santa Clara County who can't live on their own due to age, memory loss, or physical limits, like those with dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's, depression, or stroke history. The center's got a license, number 15 Jul 2015, and there are 30 licensed beds for clients needing care during the day, all under the supervision of state and local agencies.

People come in weekdays from 9 to 3, and the program gives participants a safe, supervised place where staff keep careful watch, with a client-to-staff ratio of five to one, so everybody gets attention. Staff help with things like meal prep, incontinence care, health monitoring, and daily activities, and clients get meals including a continental breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Live Oak's got structured programs with daily exercise, music and art, current events, and group activities for socialization and cognitive stimulation. They focus on helping people keep moving, stay social, and feel needed, even if their abilities have changed over time, and the place has plenty of features to support those with physical or memory issues, like a "structured day" that helps everyone stay involved.

Companion care and supportive services help people who need help but don't need to move into full-time care, so a lot of families use Live Oak to get a break or handle caregiving while making sure their loved one's looked after and has friends around. Caregivers get support too, like groups, classes, and guides for handling different health conditions. The staff are trained to help with all kinds of needs, from getting around in wheelchairs to helping people keep as much independence as possible. Clients need to be able to eat on their own, use the bathroom with a little help, and bear weight if they use a wheelchair, and many have different backgrounds, health needs, and life stories, as the program's open and non-discriminatory. There's also a virtual program every weekday morning for those who need activities at home, for a small fee.

Live Oak promotes dignity and the idea that people can do more than they think, with programs meant to keep everyone as active, independent, and engaged in the community as possible. Families can come tour the facilities, meet the staff, and see how care is given before making any decisions. The goal at Live Oak is to give older adults a full, meaningful day while helping families keep their loved ones at home, and the program always aims to improve quality of life in simple, practical ways.
