    Clean facility, serious care lapses

I had a mixed experience. The facility is clean, updated and cheerful with a beautiful room, convenient drop-off, excellent rehab/PT and generally good sanitation - phone staff were responsive. But it felt overcrowded and expensive, activities/TV were lacking, and staff performance was inconsistent: I observed distracted/uncaring behavior, discharge/medication hassles, and serious care lapses (missed feedings/over-sedation/dehydration, fall risk). Visits are allowed but often backlogged. I'd recommend only with caution and close monitoring.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews of Cadia Rehabilitation Broadmeadow are mixed but lean positive in areas related to rehabilitation outcomes, facility appearance, and certain aspects of staff communication. A substantial number of reviewers praised the therapy teams and reported meaningful improvements in mobility and function. Many families described the facility as clean, updated, and pleasant, with attractive rooms and strong housekeeping/sanitation. Several reviewers also singled out good phone communication, convenient lobby drop-off, and the ability to have indoor and outdoor visits (noting that COVID restrictions affected visitation at times).

Care quality and safety patterns: The dominant positive theme is effective rehabilitation — multiple reviews explicitly call out good PTs, strong rehab services, and examples of patients improving and being well cared for clinically. However, this is counterbalanced by several very serious negative reports describing neglectful care. Specific concerns include heavy or inappropriate sedation, failure to feed or hydrate bedridden patients, instances where staff did not wake patients to administer food or water, and a reported incident where someone had to use sternum rub to elicit a response. There are also hygiene lapses (a reported patient urination incident and food left on counters) and accounts of patients being left alone and subsequently rehospitalized or suffering falls. These safety and basic-care complaints are significant and suggest inconsistent monitoring and varying standards of care across shifts or units.

Staff performance and family communication: Reviews describe a split experience with staff. Many families praised nursing staff, therapy teams, and the front-desk/phone personnel for being communicative and responsive. Other reviews describe staff as distracted, uncaring, or inconsistent—leading to poor outcomes for some residents. A few reviewers noted proactive outreach from staff, while other families felt ignored or angry about neglect. This mixed picture points to variability in individual staff performance, potential staffing shortages, or uneven supervision.

Facility, environment, and amenities: The facility is frequently described as clean, updated, bright, and well-kept. Several reviewers appreciated the physical environment, calling rooms and common areas beautiful and cheerful. At the same time, there are comments about overcrowding and visitor backlogs, indicating that the building’s popularity or census can create logistical issues. Activity offerings appear limited in some reviews — specifically a lack of activities and absence of a TV in the common area were mentioned — which may impact residents’ social engagement depending on expectations.

Dining and discharge/administration: Dining impressions are polarized: some reviewers called the food "phenomenal," while other comments about food left on counters and failures to feed certain patients reflect serious care breakdowns rather than general dining quality. Administrative issues included confusion at discharge (notably problems with Coumadin/medication management) and hassle during discharge processes. Cost and insurance are recurring practical concerns: reviewers noted expensive pricing and instances where insurance did not cover expected services.

Notable extremes and recommendations for families: Many reviewers recommend Broadmeadow and describe satisfactory outcomes and positive experiences. However, the negative reports include acute safety and neglect issues that families should take seriously. These include over-sedation, failure to provide basic nutrition and hydration, hygiene neglect, falls and rehospitalizations, and inconsistent staff responsiveness. Because experiences appear variable, prospective residents and families should verify current staffing levels, ask about monitoring protocols for high-risk or bedridden residents, inquire about medication and discharge procedures (especially for blood thinners like Coumadin), confirm visitation logistics, and discuss costs/insurance coverage up front.

Bottom line: Cadia Rehabilitation Broadmeadow receives high marks for its rehabilitation services, facility upkeep, and for many individual staff members who provide caring, effective care. However, several serious complaints—chiefly around sedation, failure to feed/hydrate, hygiene lapses, and inconsistent staff attentiveness—are red flags that suggest variability in quality and potential safety concerns. The facility may be an excellent choice for patients needing strong therapy in a clean, pleasant setting, but families should perform careful due diligence, monitor for signs of neglect, and clarify policies around supervision, feeding protocols, discharge medication handling, and costs before and during a stay.
