    Supportive, clean, welcoming rehab facility

I had a very positive experience - the staff were consistently kind, professional and attentive, and nursing and therapy teams really supported recovery. The facility is clean, bright and welcoming, with good communication, helpful admissions, decent meals and engaging activities. I'd recommend it for rehab or longer-term care.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Westbury McDonough present a mixed picture with clear strengths in rehabilitation and many individual staff relationships, offset by recurring operational concerns. Clinically, the facility receives multiple positive remarks for its physical and occupational therapy teams; several families described effective rehab progress and praised individual therapists. There are also multiple mentions of skilled nursing and wound-care clinicians performing well in specific cases. Counterbalancing these positives are repeated complaints about care consistency โ€” particularly around medication administration, blood-sugar monitoring, and wound follow-up โ€” which families should probe during a visit.

Staffing and staff conduct emerge as a central theme. Numerous accounts praise compassionate, professional, and attentive caregivers, an effective admissions concierge, and front-desk personnel who create a welcoming first impression. At the same time, reviewers describe high turnover, reliance on temporary staff (especially on weekends), and variability in staff responsiveness and communication tone. Patterns noted include slow call-bell response times, delays attending to resident needs, and uneven performance between weekday and weekend shifts. Several reviewers identified standout individuals and shift-level leaders who provide reliable care; however, the overall experience appears dependent on which staff are on duty.

Facility and housekeeping observations are mixed. Many visitors and families describe clean, renovated common areas, attractive updates, and an overall orderly campus with easy navigation. Conversely, other accounts raise specific sanitation concerns at the room level, inconsistent housekeeping standards, and odor issues in some areas. Laundry and personal-belongings management was another recurring operational weakness, with reports of missing or delayed laundering that suggest process gaps rather than isolated events.

Dining and activities also show variability. The dining staff and certain meals received favorable comments โ€” including praise for holiday menus and particular kitchen staff โ€” while other reviews cite cold meals, small portions, and bland offerings. Activities programming is frequently noted as engaging, with social programming and pet/therapy-dog visits contributing positively to resident quality of life.

Management and communication present a bifurcated impression. Some families highlight clear family communication, proactive administrative updates, and accountable leadership; others describe poor responsiveness from administration, unresolved billing issues, and limited discharge support. More serious are allegations regarding financial transparency and redeployment of funds; these were raised directly by reviewers and warrant verification through independent inquiry. Across reviews, families commonly recommended confirming administrative processes, discharge planning, and billing practices before placement.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: the facility appears to provide strong short-term rehab services and benefits from committed individual staff members, but long-term care consistency is uneven. Weekend and temporary staffing gaps, call-response delays, sanitation and laundry process issues, and sporadic medication or wound-care problems are the operational themes to investigate. Recommended due diligence includes an in-person tour focused on current staffing levels, an explanation of wound-care and medication administration protocols, review of laundry and personal-belongings procedures, sample menus and kitchen oversight, and a discussion of financial and billing policies. Visiting at different times (weekday vs weekend, day vs night) and speaking directly with nursing leadership can help families assess whether the facilityโ€™s strengths align with their loved oneโ€™s needs.

    About Westbury Mcdonough

Westbury Mcdonough sits with 210 certified beds and provides a wide set of services, like post-acute care, long-term care, transitional care, and supportive services, aiming to help people recover from surgery, illness, or injury, and they do focus on making each resident feel comfortable, with rooms, dining options, and nice outdoor spaces where families can sit and talk with their loved ones. The place offers lots of medical and rehab programs-there's specialized physical, occupational, and speech therapy, along with orthopedic and amputee rehab, wound care, supportive Alzheimer's care, ventilator care, and dialysis care, and they also have special areas like Transitional Care Units and Progression Orthopedic Rehab Units, which are meant to help folks regain daily skills after being in the hospital. Some people in the community know the staff as caring and friendly, and the facility tries to keep things clean, uphold strong COVID-19 safety practices, and make sure families stay in the loop, plus they follow non-discrimination rules and focus efforts on patient experience. Since Empire Care Centers took over management in May 2021, the place works with other healthcare partners, like Paragan Rehab, Harmon, Nicole PT, and Diana K Sodiq, DO, so doctors and hospitals stay involved in care plans. Westbury Mcdonough shows a 3.17 nurse hours per resident per day, which tells you a bit about their daily nursing support, but nurse turnover rate is high at 60.9%, raising questions about stability, and it's good to note the facility's received 26 documented deficiencies from inspections, including some for infection control, safe and appropriate respiratory care, safe dialysis services, and how residents' personal money's managed. Management and ownership go through Empire Care Centers and GA4 Opco Holding LLC, with indirect interests held by Ensh Consulting LLC, Shlomo Heller, and Ephraim Nussbaum; the facility is a member of GHCA, and provides both short-term rehab and assisted living along with long-term nursing home care, with parking, restrooms, and wheelchair access for visitors. Amenities look modern, and the place is kept up, aiming to make recovery and daily life easier for people who need extra care, with their services built around helping residents return to as much independence as possible.
