    Attentive staff, effective therapy, recommended

I'm very pleased with the attentive, caring staff - admissions was thorough, nurses and therapists are responsive, and therapy has noticeably helped my mother regain energy. The room and dining are comfortable, communication is strong, and the team went above and beyond; I'm grateful and would highly recommend their care.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Magnolia Manor - Spartanburg are highly polarized, with families describing both strong clinical strengths and significant operational weaknesses. The facility receives consistent praise for its therapy programs โ€” physical and occupational therapists are frequently noted as effective and closely involved in rehabilitation plans. Several reviewers credited therapy with measurable improvement in mobility and function. A number of nurses, aides, and social-work staff are also described as attentive, communicative, and helpful, and the admissions team is repeatedly identified as knowledgeable and thorough.

However, a recurring pattern of inconsistent care quality emerges across reviews. Many families described delays in routine care tasks such as bathing, positioning/turning, and toileting assistance; these delays were linked to pressure-injury concerns and family members stepping in to provide basic care. Staffing shortages and long call-response times were commonly cited as drivers of these delays. There are also multiple accounts of medication-management and clinical-follow-up issues, including missed or delayed treatments and inconsistent communication about clinical changes.

Dining and activities receive mixed feedback. The dining room and activity program (bingo and group offerings) are often viewed positively, and some residents enjoy the meals. At the same time, reviewers mention inconsistent meal quality, limited vegetable options, texture concerns, and occasional meal preparation problems. Therapy and activity schedules are generally a strong point, with many families noting good engagement and measurable therapy outcomes.

Facility condition and housekeeping are other areas of concern. Reviewers describe an older building with maintenance and space limitations (narrow hallways and small bathrooms that challenge wheelchair access). Sanitation and odor-control problems, along with pest-control concerns, were reported in multiple accounts. Families also described lapses in property management, including missing clothing and personal items. These environmental and housekeeping issues compound worries about care consistency.

Management and staff conduct elicit mixed reactions. While some leadership and front-office staff (notably the admissions director) receive positive mentions for professionalism and helpfulness, other families describe poor communication, delayed callbacks, and dismissive responses from staff or management when issues are raised. A small number of reviews include serious allegations regarding staff conduct; these are distinct from the broader operational patterns and would warrant direct follow-up with regulators or facility leadership.

Overall, prospective residents and families should note the facilityโ€™s strengths in rehabilitation and the presence of caring staff on many shifts, but should also be alert to variability in daily care, housekeeping, and building maintenance. When evaluating Magnolia Manor - Spartanburg, consider asking for recent inspection reports, specific staffing ratios by shift, examples of infection-control and pest-control protocols, a copy of wound- and turning-prevention policies, and opportunities to observe care during different shifts before making a placement decision.
