Washington County Hospital and Nursing Home sits at 14600 Saint Stephens Ave in Chatom, Alabama, and stands as the only hospital and nursing home in Washington County, having served local families since 1953, so folks have counted on it for more than fifty years for a mix of care, which covers inpatient hospital stays, emergency services, skilled nursing, and long-term elder care, and when walking through the doors people will find a government-run facility with a strong focus on senior care, a leadership team led by CEO Teresa Grimes and Health Information Services Director Teresa M. Land, and medical staff, including nurses and doctors, who see to both short-term and long-term medical needs. The hospital has 25 Critical Access beds and a new 6,000 square foot emergency room open 24 hours a day, along with routine hospital services and specialized care for heart failure, vascular issues, orthopaedics, pulmonary care, and more, plus x-ray, CT, mammography, ultrasound, and lab tests offered on-site. The skilled nursing facility, called Washington County Nursing Home, has 88 beds and a big 7,000 square foot day room where residents can spend time, and families often visit their loved ones with the help of a set visitation policy. Folks can expect therapy services like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and there are programs like swing beds and respite care for hospice patients. The hospital also manages Millry Family Care and offers patient education, test portal access, medical records services, and shared patient experiences. The entire place has about 51 to 200 people working there, which keeps the place running smoothly, from caring for seniors to handling emergencies. As a government agency in the healthcare industry, the facility reports around 155 discharges, 2,940 patient days, and an average inpatient stay of about 3.5 days, showing steady use by folks who need help, and the leadership says they'll keep serving Washington County and its neighbors with as much care as they can.

Stellar hospital, worrying senior facility
I had life-saving, stellar care from the hospital/ED - quick assessment, MI protocol/tPA, excellent doctors and nurses (thanks to Catherine Turner and Washington County Hospital). But my experience with the senior living side was mixed and worrying: small rooms, poor communication, rude/unresponsive staff and power-tripping management, safety/access issues (denied visitors, kicked from my room), and inconsistent policies - I'd recommend the hospital but would hesitate to place a loved one in the facility.
