    Clean, caring staff; unsafe management

I moved my wife/mom into Serenity Place and I'm torn. The facility is newly remodeled, very clean, and the rooms are spacious with great views (we even see deer). The food is freshly prepared and excellent about 99% of the time, activities (sing-alongs, Bingo, memory games, live music, movie nights and outings) are engaging, and the small, caring staff really know residents' needs - she's happy and treated well by many kind, attentive caregivers. However, staffing is thin, management has been inconsistent (payroll and favoritism issues reported), and I've seen or heard troubling problems: long-neglected care (soiled briefs), privacy violations on social media, medication mishandling/shortages, and a traumatic mental-health incident that led to an evaluation and being left stranded. Overall I appreciate the home-like atmosphere, amenities and many wonderful staff, but I'm concerned about management, safety and reliability.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive regarding the physical facility, frontline staff, and activity/dining offerings, while raising significant concerns about management, staffing stability, and a minority of serious safety/privacy incidents. Many reviewers praise Serenity Place for being newly remodeled and well maintained, with a peaceful, scenic location (including deer sightings) that creates a home-like environment. Cleanliness is repeatedly emphasized, as are amenities such as a dining area, beauty shop, activities area, fenced backyard, and porch space. Several reviews note spacious rooms with ample storage and good layout, and families describe moves as seamless and residents as happy and well-treated.

Care quality and staff behavior form a central theme with generally positive comments: multiple reviews call staff caring, attentive, loving, and professional, with nurses who know residents’ needs and provide personalized attention in a smaller setting. The administrator is described as supportive by some families. These positive accounts suggest that many residents receive compassionate day-to-day care and that staff foster a pleasant, social atmosphere — residents participate in memory games, movie nights, live music, sing-alongs, Bingo, puzzles, and field trips, and the facility engages with local groups to enrich programming.

Dining and activities are strong selling points for many reviewers: food is described as freshly prepared and very good most of the time, and the activity schedule is varied and engaging. However, there is a recurring operational drawback: the kitchen appears to rely heavily on a single cook in some reports, which leads to repetitive menus and limited accommodations for special diets. Prospective families interested in specific dietary needs should inquire directly about meal planning and modifications.

Despite the many positive reviews, a set of serious and recurring concerns must be highlighted. Several reviewers report systemic management and staffing issues — including short staffing, payroll/unpaid staff problems, and the facility being under new management or temporarily shut down — which they link to decreased care quality. More alarming are isolated but severe allegations: medication-related problems (including an allegation of morphine theft and reports of medication shortages/spills), neglect (examples include soiled diapers left unattended for extended periods), a reviewer describing a traumatic mental-health incident involving a mental evaluation, involuntary removal, and restricted contact, and privacy violations such as posting residents on private social media. There are also reports of favoritism and unprofessional behavior by management. These incidents are not universal across reviews, but they are serious and bear directly on resident safety and well-being.

A notable pattern is the contrast between positive frontline staff reports and negative management-related complaints. Many reviewers explicitly praise the caregiving staff while simultaneously criticizing leadership, payroll practices, or administrative decisions. This suggests the facility may have dedicated care employees who try to maintain quality despite organizational or financial stresses. For families weighing Serenity Place, this pattern implies the importance of separating impressions of day-to-day caregiving from broader concerns about management stability and institutional safeguards.

Recommendations based on the review themes: verify current management and ownership status, ask for staffing ratios and turnover history, request specifics about medication storage/handling and incident logs, confirm policies for privacy and social media, and discuss meal accommodation processes for special diets. If memory care is a concern, clarify how and when separation into memory-care units occurs and what supports are available should dementia progress. Finally, speak with multiple families and, if possible, observe a mealtime and an activity period to gauge consistency between the many positive accounts and the minority but serious negative reports.

In summary, Serenity Place appears to offer a clean, attractive, and active environment with many caring frontline staff and solid amenities, making it a good fit for residents who value community engagement and a homelike setting. However, potential residents and families should conduct careful due diligence regarding management practices, staffing stability, medication safety, and documented incidents because a subset of reviews raises serious red flags that could affect resident safety and continuity of care.
