    Intimate, attentive facility with concerns

I toured this intimate, well-kept facility while looking for a place for my dad. The grounds are manicured, the place is clean and hospitable, rooms are very nice (could be bigger) and it's convenient to town and restaurants. Amenities are limited - dining room, chapel, activity room, big TV room with Spectrum and Wi-Fi, no pool - but they run multiple daily activities and understand dementia. Staff are generally extremely caring and helpful, though I encountered one rude/nasty employee and had a few safety concerns for residents. It's expensive, but overall very nice and attentive.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is largely positive, with multiple reviewers emphasizing a caring, dedicated staff and an environment that is clean, hospitable, and well maintained. The facility is small and intimate, which many reviewers see as a strength: it supports personalized attention, a homelike feel, and a quieter setting. Several specific on-site features were praised repeatedly — a dining room, chapel, activity room, a large TV room (noted to have Spectrum cable), and Wi‑Fi — and the grounds are described as manicured and pleasant. Reviewers consistently noted that the facility understands dementia and is willing to accommodate residents with dementia (one reviewer specifically mentioned it "allows staying with dad"), which positions it as a good option for families seeking dementia-aware care in a smaller setting.

Staff and caregiving are among the strongest themes. Words like "extremely caring," "very helpful," and "outstanding staff" recur, and reviewers say the staff demonstrate dedication and attentiveness. This combines with the small size to create an atmosphere where daily routines and needs appear to be handled with a personal touch. The activity program is another positive: multiple activities happen each day, offering residents chances for engagement and socialization. The combination of frequent programming and an intimate community helps foster an active daily life for residents who want involvement without being in a large institutional environment.

Facility-wise, reviewers describe the rooms as "very nice" but also note they could be bigger, indicating that private space is acceptable but somewhat limited. The presence of a dining room and chapel, plus the activity and TV rooms, means basic communal spaces are covered and functional. Connectivity is available through Spectrum cable and Wi‑Fi, supporting entertainment and communication needs. However, amenities are limited compared with larger communities: there is no pool and the facility is described as not travel-focused, which likely reflects fewer specialty programs, off-site excursions, or luxury amenities that some larger senior-living communities offer.

Cost and value are mixed in the reviews. One or more reviewers indicated the community is "expensive," which, paired with the note about limited amenities, suggests prospective residents should carefully weigh what is included for the price. The smaller size and high level of staff attention may justify higher costs for families prioritizing individualized dementia-aware care, but those seeking a wide range of amenities (pools, extensive travel programs, or resort-like offerings) may find the community less suitable for the price point.

There are some notable concerns to consider. A few reviewers reported negative staff interactions — described as a "nasty" or "rude" staff member — and at least one review raised safety concerns about residents. These comments are fewer than the positive remarks but are significant because they touch on staff behavior and resident safety, which are critical for decision-making. Because these reports are anecdotal, they should prompt direct follow-up: ask management about staff training, staff-to-resident ratios, behavior-incident reporting, background checks, and specific safety protocols during a tour or meeting.

In summary, Wills Creek Village appears to be a well-kept, intimate community with strong, compassionate staff and a clear orientation to dementia-aware care. It offers solid basic amenities (dining room, chapel, activity spaces, TV room with cable, Wi‑Fi) and an active daily schedule in a convenient location near town services and restaurants. The tradeoffs are smaller room sizes, limited on-site amenities (no pool), and potentially higher cost. The presence of a few reports of rude staff and safety concerns suggests prospective residents and families should perform targeted due diligence: tour the facility, observe staff–resident interactions, ask about safety procedures and staffing levels, and get a clear breakdown of costs and what is included. For families seeking a smaller, attentive, dementia-capable community close to town, this facility looks strongly favorable; for those prioritizing extensive amenities, lower cost, or a travel-focused program, it may be less aligned with their needs.

    About Wills Creek Village

Wills Creek Village sits in Fort Payne, Alabama, at 1050 Airport Road West, and offers senior residential care in a quiet spot with 40 beds. The staff, led by Director Donna Stewart, is known for being kind and helpful, always on site and ready to help, with someone available day or night in case of an emergency. You'll find several kinds of rooms to choose from, like studios, one-bedroom, semi-private, and two-bedroom layouts, each with a private bath, closet, climate control, and garden views. Residents get nutritious meals planned by chefs, and help with daily activities if needed like bathing, dressing, taking medicines, or even getting from bed to a wheelchair. There's extra support for diabetics and people who need help with incontinence or can't walk much. For those who need it, the staff monitors diabetes and can help with moving around.

Wills Creek Village also provides memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia, and gives non-medical home care for people living at home, plus there are independent living options for those who don't need much help but like socializing and not worrying about chores. Common indoor spaces and furnished porches support group activities, games, and social gatherings, and there's a beauty shop, cable TV, and a security system with round-the-clock emergency call response. Residents' spiritual well-being matters here, with devotional gatherings, and there are many programs to get folks moving, thinking, and connecting with each other. All utilities, except phone, are covered by the package, and rooms and buildings are wheelchair accessible. Fees depend on the level of care needed, and there are community, buy-in, and respite fees. Wills Creek Village takes private pay, social security, veterans' benefits, and has its own pricing structure for different care needs, so families can see exactly what's covered.
