    Attentive staff, clean facility, concerns

I'm very pleased with the excellent, attentive care - the staff felt like family: cheery, helpful and sweet. The facility, common areas and aviary are very clean, though my room is a bit outdated. I did have concerns about diabetic dietary oversight (a cupcake with too much sugar), restricted visitor permissions, and occasional communication issues. Overall I highly recommend the facility for its caring staff and cleanliness.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive with recurring praise for the quality of care and the staff. Multiple reviewers characterize the staff as attentive, cheery, helpful, sweet, and amazing, and several describe the relationship with caregivers as family-like. Reviewers specifically state they were pleased with the care received and some explicitly highly recommend Goodwater Healthcare Center. The combination of staff warmth and perceived clinical competence appears to be the dominant positive theme.

Facility cleanliness and environment are also frequently noted as strengths. Reviews mention that the facility, resident rooms, and common areas are very clean. An aviary or bird viewing area is highlighted as a noteworthy amenity that contributes to the facility’s atmosphere and resident enjoyment. These physical-environment positives reinforce the overall favorable impressions of the center.

Despite the strong positives, there are some consistent concerns raised. The most frequently cited issues relate to the physical condition of some rooms and to dietary management. At least one reviewer describes rooms as outdated, indicating that while cleanliness is high, some accommodations may be in need of refurbishment or modernization. A specific dietary oversight is reported: a diabetic resident was served a cupcake with excessive sugar, which reviewers cite as evidence of lapses in dietary protocol or staff attention to special nutritional needs.

Visitation and communication are other areas with room for improvement. Multiple reviewers mention restricted entry or permissions for visitors, suggesting that the facility’s visitation policies or access procedures may be rigid or inconsistently applied. Relatedly, communication issues are called out, implying that families sometimes experienced difficulty obtaining information or clear explanations from staff or management. These points stand out because they affect family confidence and the perceived transparency of care.

In summary, reviews paint Goodwater Healthcare Center as a facility with excellent, compassionate caregiving and a very clean, pleasant environment, with staff members who make residents and families feel comfortable and supported. The primary actionable concerns are localized: updating or improving some resident rooms, tightening dietary oversight for residents with specific medical needs (notably diabetes), and addressing visitation policies and communication practices so families experience fewer restrictions and clearer information flow. Addressing these targeted issues would likely further strengthen the overwhelmingly positive impression reviewers currently convey.

    About Goodwater Healthcare Center

Goodwater Healthcare Center sits in Goodwater, Alabama, a little ways from Alexander City, and has been part of Coosa County life since 1966, running as a state-licensed, Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing home with a capacity for 72 residents, and even though it's not the biggest building around it does offer both long-term and short-term nursing care, assisted living, independent living, memory care, home care, adult day services, and hospice, with available services stretching to everything from basic wound care and specialized dementia care to inpatient rehab, respite care, and therapy services for speech, occupational, physical, recreational, and podiatry problems, along with home-making help and medical transport for those who need extra hands getting to appointments or running errands, and has a clinic with primary care doctors and other specialized medical departments, and because it's been managed by Prime Management, LLC, part of Prime Health Care Enterprises, since 2003, you'll see signs of solid management and reliability throughout, and though it's got a strong stream of high inspection scores and recent near-flawless inspection reports with an A+ grade, along with a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and a 9 out of 10 average resident rating, making it one of the most highly rated in the state and the highest rated in the city, it does have a record of some noted deficiencies, especially around timely resident assessments, quality control, and some safety checks, even though staff seem to keep on top of bed rail safety and informed consent, and there's steady family involvement with a solid Family Council instead of a Resident Council, and when it comes to staff, nursing hours per resident every day reach 5.44, quite a bit above the state average, though the nurse turnover rate of 47.5% is basically on par with other Alabama homes and you'll see the full spectrum of staff, from RNs and LPNs to CNAs and therapists, working alongside doctors to keep care on schedule, and with amenities meant for comfort plus technology like an online pharmacy, options for rooms range from studio to companion layouts, and families pay through Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, or long-term care insurance, with the whole operation running under protocols designed for both holistic and personal care, and, for those considering the place, it helps to know that it usually lands in the top fifth of nursing homes nationwide, is a member of the Alabama Nursing Home Association, and does its best to provide for people's care needs even with the few issues that have come up along the way.
