    Caring staff but safety concerns

I appreciated the caring, knowledgeable and compassionate staff, the many activities (bingo, cards, painting), excellent meals and extremely clean, spacious rooms with a family-like atmosphere near the lighthouse. Unfortunately I encountered unprofessional staff and a rude director of nursing and heard disturbing stories that raised safety concerns, so I cannot recommend it. Overall well organized and clean, but my experience left me with serious reservations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from the collected review summaries is generally positive with a clear majority of comments praising the quality of care, the atmosphere, and the on-site services. Multiple reviewers emphasize caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable staff who treat residents with respect and create a family-like environment. Several reviews explicitly call out great patient care, and the facility is described as extremely clean and well organized, which reinforces a perception of solid daily operations and attention to hygiene.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme is that direct care is strong — staff are repeatedly described as friendly, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Several reviewers use language that conveys trust in clinical and personal care, and multiple summaries say residents are treated respectfully. That pattern suggests a consistently good experience with frontline caregivers and nursing aides for many residents and families. However, this positive picture is tempered by a small but notable set of negative remarks about professionalism: one review calls the director of nursing "nastiest" and "rudest," and others mention unprofessional behavior. These negative reports appear to be outliers but are significant because they come from a leadership role and could influence staff culture if accurate.

Facilities and cleanliness: Reviews consistently praise cleanliness and organization — phrases such as "extremely clean," "clean facilities," and "well organized" recur. Residents reportedly have spacious rooms, and there is an activity room available. At the same time, the building is described as an older facility, and at least one reviewer mentions a poor street view. Those latter points suggest that while internal maintenance and housekeeping are strong, the physical plant may be dated and curb appeal limited. The mix of "older facility" with "extremely clean" implies good upkeep despite an aging structure.

Activities and dining: Recreational programming and dining receive positive attention. Multiple mentions of bingo, card games, painting, and an activity room indicate an active social calendar. Dining is characterized as a positive point as well, with reviewers mentioning a nice cafeteria and excellent meals. These consistent remarks point to strong quality-of-life offerings beyond basic medical care, which many families and residents value highly.

Management and notable concerns: While most feedback about caregiving staff is positive, management and professional conduct generate mixed feedback. The single strongly negative assessment of the director of nursing and additional comments about unprofessional staff stand out against otherwise favorable reports; these could represent isolated incidents, personality conflicts, or a deeper issue—reviews alone cannot determine which. A particularly serious and vague concern appears in one summary implying that people "go in alive and leave deceased," which raises potential safety or clinical outcome worries. That statement is alarming but not detailed; it appears to be an isolated, non-specific allegation in the dataset and should be treated as a flag for further investigation rather than a proven pattern based solely on these summaries.

Patterns and takeaway: In synthesis, Lighthouse Rehab & Healthcare appears to excel in frontline caregiving, cleanliness, activities, and dining, producing many positive reviewer impressions and a family-like atmosphere. The principal negative themes are an older facility exterior/curb appeal, scattered reports of unprofessional behavior or poor management interactions (notably one critical review of the director of nursing), and one vague but serious implication regarding resident outcomes. These negative notes are fewer and less detailed than the positives but important to note because they concern leadership and resident safety. A prudent next step for anyone evaluating this facility would be to corroborate these points by checking inspection reports, speaking with multiple families, and touring the facility to directly assess environment, staff interactions, and management responsiveness.

    About Lighthouse Rehab & Healthcare

Lighthouse Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center sits at 2911 Earl Goodwin Parkway, about 2.4 miles outside of Selma, Alabama, and it's a large place with 68 beds serving seniors who want both independence and support. The place accepts both Medicare and Medicaid, and it's owned by a for-profit company that's part of Ball HealthCare Services, a group that has run more than 10 nursing facilities in Alabama since 1983. This center's highest community rating in the city is 6.9 out of 10, so some folks do see it as a decent choice when picking between the two options in town. There are studio room layouts, and each resident gets cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a phone line in their room. They also get meal service with options for appetizing therapeutic diets, so people who need special menus are looked after.

The facility offers many levels of care: assisted living, independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, hospice, and continuing care. 24-hour skilled nursing care is always there, and the center has staff trained to handle daily help with personal care, hygiene, and medication management. People who come for rehabilitation will find several therapy programs-physical, occupational, and speech therapy are all available-for both short and long-term stays, and there are special care units for people needing cognitive help or complex wound care, and even things like ventilator and tracheostomy care.

Lighthouse Rehab & Healthcare offers a range of social and recreational activities, both community-sponsored and resident-led, and there are some nice touches like a small library, a dining room that feels a bit like a restaurant, and a beauty salon for residents. The nursing staff includes both registered and licensed nurses who work side-by-side with therapists and other specialists, building care plans for short-term rehab, hospice, respite care, and restorative nursing as people need it. Dental, podiatry, optometry, and respiratory services are part of the offering, and there's support with therapies and special diets.

People can arrange tours of the facility, and the staff tries to help new residents find the kind of care that matches their health needs, whether they're recovering from a hospital stay or managing ongoing medical issues. The whole place has a focus on both long-term health care and rehab, which sets it apart from places that just do basic assisted living. Some patients may come only for outpatient therapies, while others stay longer, relying on round-the-clock support. The place is for adults aged 55 and up and is built to help people feel at home while getting needed care.
