    Compassionate caregiving improved our lives

I hired Visiting Angels Alameda for my mom and was pleasantly surprised. Andrew, Diane, Laura and Norma were compassionate, professional, and quick to respond - they found a caregiver who became part of our family, helped with errands, shopping, laundry, meal plating, transport, rehab and end-of-life care. Intake, communication, insurance help and aftercare were excellent. The facility felt a bit dated and accessibility options are limited, but overall our lives improved and I highly recommend them.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews reflect a strongly positive overall experience with Visiting Angels in Alameda, with repeated emphasis on compassionate, professional, and family-like care. Most reviewers highlight that the agency delivered individualized, respectful, and client-focused services that substantially improved the lives of clients and provided relief and reassurance to family members. There is frequent praise for specific staff members (Andrew, Norma, Laura, Diane) and for the office team’s responsiveness and personal involvement, which contributed to high levels of trust and satisfaction.

Care quality and caregiver attributes: Care quality is consistently described as excellent. Reviewers repeatedly note that caregivers were not only skilled—able to work with higher-acuity residents, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and end-of-life needs—but also emotionally engaged: compassionate, patient, kind, and prone to form genuine friendships with clients. Several accounts describe caregivers performing beyond basic duties (shopping, errands, laundry, meal plating) and becoming like family or part of the neighborhood. High-quality end-of-life care and relief during difficult transitions (rehab-to-home, aftercare) were singled out as notable strengths.

Staffing, matching, and management: A dominant theme is the agency’s strength in matching caregivers to clients and in being responsive and communicative. Multiple reviewers praise the intake process as personable and efficient; staff are described as inclusive in planning, clear in communication, and quick to respond to extra care requests. The owner and intake personnel are portrayed as hands-on and empathetic. Although an initial caregiver mismatch was mentioned once, reviewers consistently note the agency’s willingness and speed to find a better match, minimizing disruption.

Facilities, location, and activities: The Alameda location is positively noted for its setting—across from a lagoon and park—which reviewers appreciated. However, the physical interior of the facility was described by some as outdated and shabby, suggesting that the built environment may lag behind the level of service provided. Activities are provided by volunteers around three times per week, which reviewers mentioned; while this is a benefit, the cadence may be limited for families seeking more robust on-site programming. Community integration is a plus—caregivers and staff blended into the neighborhood, and caregivers often enabled clients to get out and about.

Transportation and accessibility: The agency facilitates transportation through rideshare services (Lyft/Uber) and caregivers enabling outings, which reviewers valued for restoring freedom and normalcy. At the same time, a lack of a dedicated wheelchair-accessible van was noted as a drawback and may limit options for clients who require specialized transport. There was also uncertainty reported about a downstairs WC/bathroom, indicating a potential accessibility concern that prospective clients should verify directly.

Notable patterns and recommendations: Reviewers frequently use words like "angel," "best thing," and "grateful," indicating strong emotional and practical satisfaction. Commonly repeated strengths are compassion, professional competence, personalized care, and excellent communication. The main practical concerns to consider are the physical condition of the facility (outdated/shabby), limited on-site activities frequency, and transportation/accessibility limitations (no wheelchair van, ambiguous downstairs bathroom access). Prospective clients should confirm facility accessibility details and discuss transportation needs during intake. Overall, Visiting Angels Alameda emerges as a highly recommended option for in-home and high-acuity caregiving needs, particularly where compassionate, relationship-focused care and responsive management are top priorities.
