    Caring staff, quiet home, recommended

I placed my friend here on a hospital social worker's recommendation and I'm very happy with the choice. It's a small private house with 24-hour live-in staff, an owner who is an RN, and very caring, trained caregivers who handled hospice needs and even helped improve bed sores from arrival. Quiet with few residents and no activities; food is mediocre but sanitation is fine. Overall pretty good experience - I would recommend this home.

    Summary review

    Overall impression

The reviews convey a generally positive overall sentiment, centered on attentive, personalized care in a small, home-like setting. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize the compassionate nature of caregivers and the close attention residents receive, which appears to be facilitated by the low number of guests and 24-hour live-in staff. Multiple notes that reviewers would recommend the home, combined with a hospital social worker's endorsement, point to a trustworthy reputation in the cases described.

    Care quality and clinical oversight

Clinical oversight and hands-on care are clear strengths. The owner being a registered nurse and the presence of trained caregivers are cited explicitly, which supports an impression of competent clinical management. Reviewers noted that residents were "well cared for" and that staff were "caring" and "sweet," indicating satisfaction with day-to-day care. The facility also provides or coordinates hospice care when needed, which is an important service for higher-acuity residents.

    Staff and interpersonal environment

Staff-related comments are uniformly positive: reviewers call staff "great caregivers," "nice," and "caring." The small size of the home appears to foster close relationships between staff and residents; several reviewers said friends or family members "settled in well." The combination of a small resident population and 24-hour live-in personnel likely contributes to continuity of care and responsiveness to resident needs.

    Facilities and sanitation

The setting is described as a small private house rather than a large institutional facility. Sanitation is described as "fine," suggesting that cleanliness and basic environmental standards meet expectations. The intimate, residential atmosphere is a repeated plus for those seeking a non-institutional environment.

Dining, activities, and quality of life

The most consistent weaknesses mentioned relate to quality-of-life amenities. Reviewers reported "no activities" and called the food "mediocre." These comments indicate limited programmed engagement and meal appeal; for many families and residents, daily activities and meal quality are important components of overall satisfaction and well-being. The small size of the home may limit the resources or staffing available to run robust activity programs or culinary services.

    Clinical concerns and hospitalizations

A couple of less favorable clinical notes appear in the reviews. One reviewer reported a resident arriving with bed sores, and there were mentions of "some guests in hospital." The bed sore comment suggests that at least some residents may be admitted with pre-existing wounds requiring clinical attention; it does not necessarily reflect care provided by this home but is an important data point regarding resident acuity. The hospitalizations could indicate that residents have higher medical needs or that there were acute events during the review period. Given the RN ownership and trained staff, the home appears equipped to manage or coordinate higher-acuity care, but prospective families should ask about hospitalization frequency and how transitions of care are handled.

    Patterns, recommendations, and concluding assessment

In sum, the dominant themes are strong, compassionate caregiving in a small, private setting with skilled oversight (RN owner and trained caregivers), good cleanliness, and generally positive recommendations from reviewers and a hospital social worker. The primary areas for improvement are resident engagement and dining: reviewers repeatedly noted the absence of activities and only mediocre food. Additionally, the presence of hospital transfers and at least one resident admitted with bed sores are notable clinical points to explore further with management—specifically asking about admission screening, wound care protocols, and frequency/reasons for hospital transfers. For families seeking a quiet, intimate environment with consistent, caring staff and clinical oversight, this home appears to be a solid option. Families prioritizing robust activities programming or higher culinary standards should probe those areas during a visit.

    About Candice Home Care

Candice Home Care sits in Bakersfield, California, and offers a small, home-like setting for up to six residents, which means people tend to get more personalized attention than at bigger places and that sense of a quiet, comfortable home is all around, especially when the registered nurse who runs the house is there to make sure everything goes smoothly day after day. The staff focus on compassionate, professional caregiving, so folks get help with bathing, dressing, walking, eating, and taking their medicine, plus staff make sure there's always someone around for support. Residents can pick private or shared bedrooms, and all the rooms come fully furnished, with cable, Wi-Fi, private phones, and enough space for comfort. The dining room serves three home-cooked meals daily, and the kitchen staff can handle special diets for diabetes or other conditions.

Candice Home Care provides different types of care, including assisted living, memory care, respite care, skilled nursing, and in-home help, so residents can get the right support as their needs change, and families have options when they need a break or short-term care. The aides help with all kinds of daily activities, from getting dressed and showered to getting to the doctor or running errands, and they also arrange travel for church or shopping, making sure folks stay connected to their regular lives. Music therapy, animal visits, card games, movies, art programs, and outings give people ways to stay active, and staff make time for visits with a mobile hairdresser and social events in the evenings. There's an outdoor garden and yard, which gives residents a place to sit outside and relax or to visit with friends and family on a nice day.

There's always 24-hour supervision, and medication management is part of the service, so people with memory loss or more complex health needs have someone making sure they stay safe and healthy. The fitness programs, daily activities, and reading room help keep things from getting dull, and for comfort there may be extra touches like a jacuzzi or a small health area, though these can vary. The published monthly rate at Candice Home Care is $3,231, with options for private or semi-private rooms, depending on what someone needs or prefers. The California Department of Social Services licenses the facility, and reviews show families appreciate the quality of care and friendly atmosphere, giving it a rating of 4.0 stars. Candice Home Care does its best to offer seniors a steady, comfortable place to call home, aiming to support not just health, but happiness and daily comfort too.
