    Kind, professional staff; excellent care

I toured and ultimately moved my mom here and have been very pleased. The staff (Vanessa, Cristina and the whole team) are kind, professional and always responsive, the care is excellent, and the dining/chef are outstanding with a gorgeous dining-room view. Beautiful, well-kept grounds and a variety of living options - stylish cottages, roomy apartments and studios - plus abundant activities, bus outings and 24-hour support make it a warm, active community in a great location. I'd happily recommend it to others.

    Summary of reviews

Summer House Memory Care at Fredericka Manor presents as a large, park-like senior campus with a wide array of housing types and on-site services. The community includes studios, apartments, cottages and casitas, and advertises multi-level care including specialized memory-care services. The grounds, pond, gardens and walking paths are repeatedly described as well kept, and the location near parks, beaches and shopping is viewed positively for convenience and recreational access.

Care and staffing are consistent strengths in many accounts. Reviewers commonly describe compassionate, attentive caregiving personnel and 24-hour nursing availability, with specific praise for pandemic-era responsiveness in some cases. Memory-care programming and aging-in-place integration receive favorable mentions. At the same time, there are operational concerns families should probe further: comments point to intermittent staffing shortages and instances that imply gaps in clinical monitoring and medication administration. Some families also described inconsistent emergency response or limited outreach to families following clinical events, indicating potential variability in communication and incident follow-up.

Dining and social life are prominent positives. The community supports an active dining culture, social meals, and a diverse calendar of activities — daily classes, choir, bocce, dancing, exercise, theater outings and concert events are frequently highlighted. Culinary staff and a proactive dining management approach receive praise, and a meal-point system is noted as flexible for some residents. Offsetting this, reviewers also describe inconsistent meal quality at times, limited deli hours, and occasional miscommunication about meal scheduling; these are practical issues to confirm during a tour.

Facilities and amenities are extensive: on-site art and activity spaces, a movie theater, fitness room, library, private store, and transportation services are all described. Many units have been renovated, with kitchenettes and in-unit laundry services noted in newer layouts; cottages with garages and yards are appealing to couples or residents seeking a house-like setting. Nevertheless, unit condition and modernization appear variable across the campus — some buildings and rooms are newer and updated while others are described as older or more crowded. The campus scale and multiple buildings can reduce intimacy in parts of the community, which may matter for prospective residents seeking a smaller-feel environment.

Management and administrative experience is mixed in the feedback. Several families commend an open-door management style, responsive maintenance and proactive programming. Conversely, there are recurring mentions of inconsistent communication from marketing or front-desk staff, concerns about undisclosed upfront financial requirements or how nonprofit status is presented, and at least one note about changes to on-site higher-level care (closure of a care center) that may affect long-term continuity for some residents. These items suggest clarifying contract terms, refund/transfer policies, and the future availability of higher-acuity care before committing.

Overall, Fredericka Manor is characterized by a strong social culture, broad amenities, and many examples of caring staff and good maintenance. Prospective residents and families should verify operational details that surfaced as recurring issues: staffing levels and clinical-monitoring protocols, emergency response and family communication practices, meal scheduling and quality controls, unit condition variability, and financial transparency. Touring multiple unit types and asking for written policies on care continuity and incident communication will help determine whether the campus fit aligns with a specific resident's needs and expectations.

About Summer House Memory Care at Fredericka Manor

Summer House Memory Care at Fredericka Manor sits on a 24-acre campus with big trees and walking paths, offering a calm and secure place for people with Alzheimer's or other memory loss. The neighborhood has 22 cottages, each with modern comforts, classic styling, and its own front porch, which helps bring a homelike feeling for residents. Each detail, from quiet spaces and garden pathways to the protected outdoor courtyard, encourages safety and comfort, with doors and wander monitoring for everyone's wellbeing. The personal care team is trained in memory care and stays on site around the clock, helping with bathing, dressing, medication, and other daily needs, always focusing on dignity and the unique needs of each resident.

Meals happen in a comfortable home-style dining room, and there's a clubhouse and activity room where residents join in music therapy, special programs like iN2L entertainment, and even spend time in a sensory room designed to soothe agitation. Special events, creative activities, and outings keep days busy, and there's help for families, too, through counseling and social services. Residents receive housekeeping, laundry, and transportation to medical appointments, and nurses help manage care, doctor visits, medication, and diabetic and incontinence support.

Each person gets a care plan set up for their needs, including behavioral support for cognitive changes, along with regular visits from the Wellness Clinic and even first aid when needed. The facility's safety features, escorted access, and delayed egress doors give everyone peace of mind. The Summer House Memory Care community is part of the wider Fredericka Manor, which lets residents stay connected as needs change, and the focus on a close-knit, neighborly setting gives residents real chances to thrive in mind, body, and spirit, no matter the stage of memory loss. There's always support from skilled staff, warm settings, and many ways for people to connect, express themselves, or just spend quiet time looking out over lovely gardens from their front porch.
