    Compassionate organized attentive 24/7 care

I'm grateful to Genesis Manor - the owners (RNs) and caregivers were kind, attentive and professional, gave my mom 24/7 personalized care with continuity, handled meals/baths/laundry, communicated well with our family and hospice, and kept a clean, homey environment where she was happier. I highly recommend them for compassionate, organized care, though activities are limited and the property could use some maintenance/safety/odor attention.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of Genesis Manor V are overwhelmingly positive about the quality of personal care, the compassion of staff, and the small, home-like setting. Most reviewers emphasize that residents receive close, individualized attention from a consistent team of caregivers, and many families reported marked improvements in wellbeing (including weight gain and better grooming). Repeated themes include a warm, family-like atmosphere, hands-on owners with medical backgrounds (Registered Nurses), steady communication with families, and thoughtful end-of-life support in cooperation with hospice providers.

Care quality and staff: The strongest and most consistent praise centers on staff—attentive, kind, empathetic, and organized caregivers who provide one-on-one attention. Multiple reviewers note specific daily-care actions (bedding changed, hair brushed, laundry done, regular baths) and praise meticulous documentation and prompt prescription refills. Continuity of care is a frequently mentioned benefit: residents often see the same caregivers, which supports individualized routines and strong caregiver–resident relationships. Several accounts describe deeply compassionate moments (staff crying with families during end-of-life care), reflecting a high degree of emotional investment and hospice cooperation.

Facilities and environment: Many reviewers describe Genesis Manor V as clean, tidy, pleasantly scented, and nicely decorated—creating a cozy, home-like feel. The small-house model contributes to a calm and welcoming ambiance, and features like a backyard patio and dog-friendly policies are singled out positively. That said, a minority of reviews note maintenance concerns: occasional bad odors, a rundown appearance in places, and a hazardous back porch. These reports are not predominant but are significant because they contrast with the majority view of a clean, safe environment.

Dining and daily living: Food and daily living services generally receive favorable comments: reviewers mention good food, cookies on request, and that meals are provided consistently, with some residents gaining weight after arriving. Several reviewers explicitly praise staff for teaching table-setting and for attending to dietary needs. However, there are also isolated comments describing meals as microwavable, which suggests variability in meal quality or expectations among families.

Activities and resident engagement: A recurring limitation reported is the relatively limited activity program. Multiple reviews say activities are sparse—primarily TV watching and short walks—and some reviewers express a desire for more structured or varied programming. The small-house model appears to enhance personalized care but can also reduce the breadth of social and recreational options typically available in larger facilities. Outdoor time is also sometimes constrained by environmental factors (heat), limiting access to the backyard patio at certain times.

Management, communication, and medical integration: Management receives positive notice for being hands-on and medically knowledgeable; several reviewers value that owners are healthcare professionals and that there are regular monthly doctor visits and easy access to outside services. Communication with families is consistently highlighted as a strength: staff keep relatives informed, are welcoming of visits, and collaborate well with outside medical teams such as Kaiser Hospice. Documentation practices and a team-oriented approach are cited as reassuring by families.

Safety, incidents, and value concerns: While most reviews assert that residents are safe and well cared for, there are important safety and value concerns raised by a minority. Incidents mentioned include a safety lapse at night where a monitor was reportedly not hooked up (and 911 was not called), a fall incident, and at least one minor staff-related incident. Outside maintenance issues and hazardous features (e.g., back porch) were also reported. Cost perceptions are mixed: several reviewers say the price is reasonable or affordable for the quality and peace of mind provided, while others express concern about high cost relative to value. These mixed assessments on cost suggest that perceived value may depend on family expectations and which aspects (staffing, facilities, activities) they prioritize.

Overall assessment: In summary, Genesis Manor V is depicted by most reviewers as a small, clean, and compassionate residential care home with strong, medically knowledgeable leadership and attentive, consistent caregivers. Its strengths lie in personalized attention, family-like atmosphere, good communication, and strong end-of-life support. The most consistent areas for improvement are activity programming, certain maintenance/appearance issues reported by a few reviewers, and ensuring consistent safety protocols (e.g., monitoring and fall prevention). Value perceptions vary; while many families feel the cost is justified by the quality of care, a few raise concerns about price. For prospective families prioritizing individualized, hospice-capable, home-like care with close staff relationships, reviewers overwhelmingly recommend Genesis Manor V, but they should inquire specifically about activity offerings, recent maintenance and safety practices, and meal preparation standards during a tour.

    About Genesis Manor V

Genesis Manor V is a small assisted living community in Claremont, California, and it's been there since 2007, taking in up to six residents at a time, so things don't ever get too crowded and there's a lot of personal attention. The family behind Genesis Manor V, led by Gerry Markie, R.N., has a long history in nursing and care, so you see staff who really know how to help seniors, especially those with conditions like Parkinson's, diabetes, heart failure, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and dementia, and they're around 24/7 to lend a hand. There are both shared and private studio suites, with rooms already furnished, and meals are not just provided but tailored to fit health and nutrition needs-if someone has special dietary requests, they handle that, too, for things like diabetes or allergies.

Memory care's a focus here, so the place has a secure section with built-in safety features like a computerized wander alert system, and residents wear bracelets that let staff know if anyone at risk of wandering leaves their safe area. That means if a resident struggles with memory or behavioral problems, even things like aggression or wandering, staff can respond quickly, and they know how to work with those issues. Genesis Manor V is known for a supportive, homey environment, and pets are allowed, so someone's cat or dog can come along, which makes a difference for a lot of folks.

Doctors and nurses are on call, and the staff can coordinate with outside healthcare teams, handle things like medication management, bathing help, incontinence care, daily transfers, wound care, physical therapy, and they step in for everything from reminders to total assistance. Folks who need hospice care, respite care, or are on the Assisted Living Program for Medi-Cal are welcome, as long as they're eligible. Residents get housekeeping, linen service, laundry, and maintenance, so they can focus on activities instead of chores, and there's plenty to do-TV, walks, group meals in the dining area, and staff organize indoor and outdoor activities, including devotional services. There's even transportation for outings, and if someone needs to get to a doctor's appointment or just out for some air, staff handle the details.

Genesis Manor V accepts men and women, provides onsite parking, and everything is all non-smoking indoors, both private and public areas alike. The place checks its licenses regularly, stays up to code, and does move-in coordination for new residents. Gardens and walking paths are open to residents, and there's a media and activities room, too, plus emergency alert systems if there's ever a need for help right away. The staff can help with just a little support or with heavy care needs, and the whole idea here is to keep folks safe, cared for, and comfortable, letting them age in place as their needs change over time, all in a friendly spot where people know your name.
