    Compassionate, active senior living recommended

I chose this community for my mom and I'm very glad we did - the staff are outstanding: kind, professional, attentive and really go above and beyond. The food is excellent, the place is spotless and attractive, and there's a packed calendar of activities, outings and pool/courtyard spaces that keep residents engaged. Move-in coordination and communication were smooth and reassuring. My only real caveats: some apartments feel small/dated, parking and pricing can be tight, and leadership/staff turnover has caused occasional admin hiccups and unevenness in service. Overall, for compassionate, active senior living, I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall impression Reviews for Huntington Terrace are predominantly positive with repeated emphasis on the staff, dining, activities and campus amenities. The most consistent theme is praise for the caregiving and front-line employees: reviewers regularly describe staff as compassionate, attentive, professional and respectful. Several individual employees and leaders (sales director Susan Peterson, activities staff Omayra, front desk staff MaryAnn/Kalani, executive director Zehra, and others) are named repeatedly as sources of excellent service and smooth move-ins. Many families report a quick, well-coordinated transition and ongoing, proactive communication from staff.

Care quality and staffing Care quality is generally described as high: well-trained caregiving and nursing staff, diligent Med Techs, regular checks (call-button responsiveness), medication dispensing, pendant monitoring, and onsite therapy services (PT/OT) are frequently cited. Memory Care receives positive comments for loving, family-like attention and involvement with hospice when needed. That said, a clear pattern of concern appears around staffing stability and management turnover. Numerous reviews mention recent leadership changes, higher staff turnover, understaffing at times, and lapses in responsiveness (longer call response times or night crew issues). Some reviewers link declines in service quality to management changes; others report the opposite (new management improving things). These inconsistent operational reports are one of the most significant risk factors noted by families.

Dining and food services Dining is another standout: many reviewers compare the food to restaurant-quality or cruise-ship dining and single out chefs (both current and past) for exceptional meals, special buffets, and flexible dining options (breakfast anytime, private family dining). Multiple accounts describe four-course meals, themed meals (Thanksgiving buffets, steakhouse experiences), and a varied menu with alternatives. However, food quality is not uniform across all reviews: several families report declines when chefs or kitchen leadership changed, or described periods of inconsistent service tied to staffing changes in the kitchen.

Activities, social life, and amenities Huntington Terrace has a richly packed activities calendar with events spanning live entertainment, art and jewelry-making, fitness (including water aerobics and yoga), outings to beaches and shopping, bingo, movies, and more. Many reviewers highlight the activities director as energetic and engaged; bus trips and field outings are a distinct plus and contribute to residents’ improved mood and mobility. The campus itself is described as resort-like by many: clean, attractive common areas, a charming courtyard, pool and spa, putting green, bocce courts, clubhouses, salon, gym, screening room, and therapy areas. The campus is pet-friendly and has multiple outdoor spaces that residents enjoy. These amenities, together with the social atmosphere, are repeatedly credited with making Huntington Terrace feel like a second home for residents.

Facilities, rooms and maintenance Common areas and landscaping receive frequent praise for cleanliness and presentation. At the apartment level, reviews are mixed: some units are freshly renovated and comfortable, while others are described as small, oddly shaped, or dated (notably a lack of two-bedroom options). Accessibility issues such as step-over showers and small bathroom layouts were noted a few times. Maintenance and housekeeping are generally reported positively, though a minority of reviews mention inconsistent cleaning standards or isolated maintenance issues that were later addressed.

Management, costs and administration Cost is a recurring theme: Huntington Terrace is repeatedly described as premium-priced, with upfront fees, community fees, and relatively high monthly rates. Several reviewers felt the cost was justified by the service and amenities, while others objected to surprise fees or perceived poor value during periods of staff turnover. Administrative concerns include reports of billing problems, slow callbacks, and at least one instance of a hidden non-refundable deposit. Management changes are a frequent subject: some reviews credit new leaders with improvements, while others report a decline after long-term managers left. This variability in leadership and administration is one of the most commonly cited reasons for divergence in reviewer experiences.

Safety and isolated negative incidents Most accounts praise the facility’s safety measures and attentive care; however, there are notable negative incidents reported by a minority of reviewers. These include a COVID outbreak with criticisms of handling, occasional incidents of falls or training lapses (oxygen not set up, safety/training concerns), and at least one report of a critical staffing gap during a transition. Several reviewers warn that Huntington Terrace may not be the ideal fit for residents with high medical acuity or complex psychiatric needs, citing limitations in the level of medical care on site and suggestion to consider higher-acuity facilities for some residents.

Who this community fits best Huntington Terrace will likely be an excellent fit for seniors who prioritize an active social life, high-quality dining, and a compassionate staff in a resort-like setting. It is well suited for residents needing assisted living or memory care who benefit from therapies, transportation, and an abundant activities program. Prospective residents and families who require larger apartments, guaranteed lower pricing, or are very sensitive to administrative stability should investigate carefully: ask specific questions about staffing ratios, turnover, recent management changes, hidden fees, and the availability of larger floor plans. Touring multiple times, speaking directly with current residents, and confirming recent staffing/management histories with leadership will help families weigh the generally strong positives against the intermittent operational concerns cited by some reviewers.

Bottom line The aggregate sentiment is strongly positive on the human side (staff warmth, responsiveness, resident engagement) and on lifestyle offerings (food, activities, amenities). Recurrent concerns center on operational stability — staffing turnover, management transitions, and inconsistent service in periods of change — and on price and apartment size. Many families emphatically recommend Huntington Terrace, and many residents report improved quality of life; yet a careful, up-to-date assessment of staffing, management practices, and financial terms is advisable before making a commitment.
