    Caring staff but medical concerns

I toured this newer (≈3.5-yr), well-maintained Seventh-day Adventist community and was impressed by the warm, personable staff, proactive, safety-minded care (they even locked a room until a resident returned), and the positive activities and outings. Meals are served three times daily with snacks and choices, but variety, specific dietary needs and meat options were lacking for us. As a smaller community it felt attentive and easy to set up, yet I had limited observation of clinical care - there was hospice involvement and concerns about early sedation - and we experienced a delayed refund/billing dispute. Overall I'm grateful for the caring staff and cozy facility, but I'm not fully confident it would meet higher-acuity medical or dietary needs.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mostly positive about Loma Linda Assisted Living and Memory Care, with consistent praise for the staff, the facility’s appearance, and the community atmosphere. Multiple reviewers emphasize that staff are genuine, caring, and personable; several accounts note that caregivers were attentive, responsive to concerns, and proactive in facilitating medical treatment. Safety-focused actions, such as locking a resident’s room until they returned, were mentioned as examples of staff vigilance. Some families and residents specifically said the resident was well and happy at home, expressing gratitude and high satisfaction.

The physical facility and community size are frequently mentioned as strengths. Reviewers describe the building as new (about 3.5 years old), attractive, and well-maintained, with an inviting interior. The smaller scale of the community is framed positively by many reviewers: it is seen as contributing to better, more personalized care management and a cozy, intimate environment. The facility’s Seventh-day Adventist focus is noted by several people; for some this is an appealing cultural fit, while it also links to dining choices described below. An independent living option is available and appreciated by some visitors during tours.

Dining and nutrition come through as mixed. The community offers three meals a day plus snacks and menu choices, and several reviewers enjoyed dining-room meals. There are also regular social food events (for example, ice cream socials) and outings. However, multiple reviewers raised concerns about meal variety and overall food quality, and at least one review indicated that dietary needs were not being met. The Seventh-day Adventist focus appears to influence food offerings: some reviewers said meat is not served and that residents largely prepare their own meals. For prospective residents with specific dietary requirements or strong preferences, this pattern may be important to verify in advance.

Activities and social life receive favorable comments: outings, social events, and organized activities are highlighted as positive aspects that contribute to residents’ satisfaction. Several reviewers described the community as lively and pleasant, with engaging programming. The smaller community size also seemed to support more meaningful interactions between staff and residents, yielding a more home-like atmosphere.

There are a few notable concerns and mixed reports about care level and administrative issues. While many reviewers praised staff, others indicated limited direct observation of care or unclear care outcomes — for example, some situations involved hospice involvement and early sedation decisions, and the overall quality of care in those cases was described as unclear. Practical and administrative issues were raised as well: one reviewer reported a billing dispute and a delay in receiving a refund. Shared rooms were mentioned by at least one reviewer, which could be a downside for those seeking more privacy. The monthly cost (reported around $5,450) was also noted and may be perceived as high given some of the service limitations cited.

In summary, Loma Linda Assisted Living and Memory Care appears to be a newer, well-kept, and community-focused facility with caring staff, a smaller and personable atmosphere, and active social programming. It is particularly appealing to people who value a close-knit environment and the Seventh-day Adventist cultural orientation. Prospective residents and families should, however, closely evaluate dining options and how well specific dietary needs will be met, confirm the availability of any higher-level medical or memory-care services required, and clarify billing/refund policies up front. Visit in person, ask for detailed examples of clinical care and hospice coordination, and verify room arrangements (private vs. shared) to ensure the community is the right fit for the resident’s medical, dietary, and privacy needs.

Loma Linda Assisted Living and Memory Care sits in Loma Linda, California, in a newer, two-story building with 46 apartments set up for both assisted living and memory care, and the whole place can support up to 64 people, so there's room to meet different needs but it doesn't feel too big or impersonal, and when you drive up you'll see it's a beautifully landscaped property with a safe and handicap accessible layout. The facility's well known for providing care to seniors with Alzheimer's, dementia, or those who just need help with everyday activities, and memory care is offered in a special secure "Locked Neighborhood" so people with dementia stay safe and don't wander, plus the staff are licensed nurses who give around-the-clock support, and there's skilled nursing, medication help, and support from physical therapists too. Folks get to pick from a good range of floor plans, with options including studios, single rooms, and semi-private units, and all apartments have kitchenettes, cable, and high-speed WiFi, which means you get some comfort and privacy for relaxation or family visits, and for those interested, there's a bistro dining room and community dining available so you can sit with friends if you want, and meals are fresh, home-made, vegetarian, and include heart-healthy options-it even won awards for meals and friendliness, which says a lot.

There's always something happening to keep people active with daily activities like game nights, story time, a book club, gardening group, cooking club, and even a resident musical group, while exercise classes include Tai Chi and chair yoga, and amenities like a gym, recreation room, TV lounges, art and crafts area, patios, gardens, and a private courtyard, so finding a hobby or just relaxing in fresh air isn't hard here. If somebody wants to style their hair or get a quick trim, there are on-site haircuts and barber services, and laundry for linens, dry cleaning, housekeeping, and room cleaning can all be arranged, which makes life easier for folks who want a hands-off lifestyle, and for those who like outings, there are community trips, scenic walks, and offsite activities, with free transportation for errands, appointments, or just enjoying the campus. For memory support, everything's structured to reduce confusion and support independence, and technology like Nintendo Wii bowling or the computer area offers new ways for residents to connect or play, which helps mental and physical engagement, and spiritual needs are covered too, since in-house religious services run on a regular basis.

It's a pet-friendly place, so animal lovers can bring a companion, and if family wants to eat a meal together or visit, guests are welcomed at meal times, with parking for visitors and residents alike, and nearby you've got pharmacies such as Rite Aid and access to local hospitals like Jerry L Pettis Memorial Hospital and Loma Linda University Family Medical Group, so medical needs can be taken care of pretty quickly, plus advice with VA benefits and financial planning is offered for those who need it. Loma Linda Assisted Living and Memory Care follows all California state requirements and only accepts residents after an entry fee, but the rates are all-inclusive, so there aren't surprise costs for services, and there's a focus on meaningful activities, social connection, and both physical and mental wellness, with hospice and respite care available for those times when families need extra support, and the community gets positive reviews for genuine staff care, safety, and maintaining a welcoming, friendly environment for everyone.
