I toured Oakmont and felt immediately at ease - brand-new, spotless spaces with lots of natural light, gardens and roomy apartments. Staff were warm, knowledgeable and genuinely helpful (special thanks to Liza and Vanessa), and the tour included thoughtful touches and welcome treats. Dining felt restaurant-quality, there are plenty of activities and therapy options, and memory care is available if needed. I'm very pleased and would recommend this community for its cleanliness, amenities and caring team.

Summary of reviews
Oakmont of Novato is widely described as a new, high-end community with strong physical assets: contemporary architecture, abundant natural light, large windows and high ceilings, well-maintained gardens and patio space, and multiple indoor amenities (music room, aviary, bar, and multiple dining venues). Many reviewers highlighted the resort-like ambiance, clean common areas, and thoughtfully arranged lounges and outdoor spaces. Apartment size and layout are often praised, and the campus offers features attractive to socially engaged residents, including a busy activities program, transportation and therapy services, and memory-care capacity.
Dining is generally seen as a strength. Reviewers frequently mentioned restaurant-quality meals, a capable chef, balanced menus, and multiple dining options (including set dining hours and happy-hour offerings). Small hospitality touches — welcome appetizers, gift bags, and curated guest menus — were noted favorably by families and visitors. At the same time, a minority of reviewers described inconsistent food preferences or dissatisfaction with particular meal offerings, indicating some variability in dining satisfaction across individuals.
Direct-care staff and admissions teams receive mixed but frequently positive commentary. Many families singled out compassionate, patient caregivers and knowledgeable tour staff who provided clear guidance during the decision process. Several reviewers described proactive bedside checks and an engaged activities team. Conversely, operational concerns appear to affect care continuity: frequent turnover among leadership and frontline staff, reliance on temporary personnel, and reported gaps in training have contributed to perceptions of uneven clinical competence.
Clinical and safety-related themes warrant careful consideration. Multiple accounts cite issues with emergency and fall-monitor systems, and families raised concerns about medication-management processes and safety oversight. There are also mentions of regulatory citations in the memory-care unit; combined with reports of short staffing in memory care, these items point to potential weaknesses in clinical governance and emergency-readiness. Prospective residents and families should ask the community for current staffing ratios, recent corrective actions, maintenance records for safety equipment, and documentation related to any regulatory findings.
Programming and social life are generally robust, with frequent activities (music, gardening, games, outings) and amenities that support engagement. That said, several reviewers described limited fitness-focused programming or an overreliance on passive activities (television) in some units; memory-care programming was described as more limited in scope by some families. Physical features such as lack of in-room kitchens, absence of a swimming pool, and no dedicated dog park may influence suitability for particular residents.
Management and service-consistency patterns are a recurring theme. Positive accounts describe responsive, empathetic staff and helpful administrative interactions; negative accounts emphasize high management turnover, hands-off administration, inconsistent front-desk behavior, and communication lapses with families. Pricing is frequently characterized as high; some families consider the cost justified by the facility and services, while others view it as disproportionate to the perceived level of clinical care.
Overall, Oakmont of Novato presents a strong physical environment, attractive dining, and an active social program supported by many compassionate staff members. However, prospective residents and their families should investigate operational areas that have emerged as concerns: leadership stability, staff training and continuity, maintenance of safety systems, memory-care staffing and programming, and transparency around pricing and recent regulatory actions. Request up-to-date staffing rosters, evidence of equipment maintenance, a summary of corrective actions for any citations, and speak directly with current families when possible to assess day-to-day clinical reliability alongside the facility’s clear amenity strengths.

About Oakmont of Novato
Oakmont of Novato is a two-story senior living community made for adults aged 55 and over, with a focus on comfort, wellness, and a sense of belonging, and you'll find the grounds are lush and well-kept, with gardens and nice views all around. Residents can choose from a range of floor plans-studios, suites, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments-spanning from 400 up to about 1,245 square feet, and each unit comes with kitchen appliances, cable or satellite TV, internet, and kitchenettes, while the larger designs let people find a space that feels right for them. This community provides independent living, assisted living, and memory care, supporting seniors who want as much independence as possible as well as those who need daily hands-on help or support with memory loss, and there's a full-time nurse along with trained aides for help with medication, bathing, and getting dressed.
Oakmont of Novato offers personalized care, with services tailored to each person, and staff are known to be attentive and respectful, working round the clock to make residents feel safe and heard, and there's a dedicated wellness center on site too. Memory care is provided in a special section called "Traditions," where people living with dementia or Alzheimer's disease get specialized care, a secure environment to prevent wandering, and cognitive activities to support their abilities. Residents in all parts of the community can join fitness and recreational programs, enjoy an aquatic spa or hot tub, spend time in indoor and outdoor gathering areas, take part in arts, crafts, and other hobbies, and attend devotional or educational programs, and the calendar includes both onsite and offsite activities for social connection.
The dining experience here is a highlight, with a culinary team led by an executive chef preparing quality meals daily, and the kitchen can handle special diets like diabetic, low salt, low fat, and vegetarian, while guest meals and room service are available for visitors. There's a coffee shop on the campus, a private movie theater for events, and common areas with entertainment, and residents can use transportation services for errands, appointments, and shopping nearby, with parking available for those who drive. Housekeeping, laundry, and building maintenance are all provided by staff, so residents have fewer worries about daily chores. Health services cover medication reminders, help with basic health needs, and ongoing support aimed at promoting independence as much as possible, and there's a beautician onsite for grooming.
Oakmont of Novato allows pets, supports English and other languages, and provides caregiver resources for family members. The facility stands out for its friendly, supportive staff and a community atmosphere known for kindness. The campus is near shopping, fine dining, arts, and entertainment, making it easy for residents to stay engaged, and the whole environment is built to offer safety, comfort, and a worry-free lifestyle for residents and their loved ones.
