    Warm attentive small home care

I placed my mom here and couldn't be happier - a small, spotless, home-like place with warm, attentive staff and an involved owner. Homemade meals three times a day, engaging activities (bingo, movies, music), 24-hour help, reasonable all-inclusive pricing, and genuine personal attention made her feel safe and loved; I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Manor of Ojai Residential Care are overwhelmingly positive, with repeated praise for the quality of care, the compassionate nature of the staff, and a home-like, clean environment. Most reviewers highlight an engaged owner/operator (named Halina/Helena in multiple summaries) who actively trains staff, interacts with residents and families, and fosters a family atmosphere. Care quality is consistently described as attentive and individualized; reviewers note that the smaller size of the facility allows more time per resident and a sense of privacy without feeling institutional.

Staff and management: A dominant theme is the caring, trustworthy staff and hands-on management. Multiple reviews single out the owner and named staff (Halina, Helena, Ana) for emotionally supportive and proactive care. Staff are described as compassionate, responsive, and willing to go above and beyond. Administration is called attentive in several summaries, and there are specific mentions of staff training and adherence to CDC-style mask-wearing, suggesting attention to infection-control practices. Families repeatedly report feeling confident leaving loved ones in the Manor’s care.

Facilities and safety: The facility is frequently described as clean, bright, and well-kept with a home-like layout. Reviewers cite a safe indoor layout, a calm neighborhood setting with mature trees and landscaping, and secure-feeling premises. Communal spaces are a positive point: a pleasant dining room with natural light, a comfortable dayroom, a community/multipurpose room, a front balcony, and a large enclosed back patio. These spaces support socialization while allowing for a quieter, less institutional environment. A few reviews reference the facility as the "right size," balancing privacy and community. However, there are isolated mentions of threadbare or worn areas, suggesting that some furnishings or finishes may show age in places.

Dining and health services: Dining is a standout strength. Meals are repeatedly described as homemade, healthy, and delicious — with some reviewers noting European-style cooking — and residents are reported to enjoy the food. Meals are provided three times daily plus snacks, and several families highlight that their relatives were happy with the menu. In addition to dining, the facility offers practical health-related amenities such as local foot and nail care, and reviewers mention that medical transportation and medication handling are included in the base pricing.

Activities and social life: Manor of Ojai appears to provide a varied activity program that contributes to residents' quality of life. Commonly cited activities include games, crafts, bingo, movies (and watching the Hallmark Channel), exercises, and musical entertainment (including visiting musicians and piano performances). The multipurpose room and schedule of life-enrichment events create opportunities for social connection, and many reviewers note new friendships and an engaged resident community. The presence of a beauty shop and organized seasonal decorations also add to the home-like, dignified atmosphere.

Cost, policies, and extras: Cost is mentioned favorably by many reviewers — described as reasonable and affordable, with one-price arrangements covering laundry, medications, and rides to doctors (no hidden fees). The beauty salon is available but typically billed as an extra service at a reasonable price. These transparent pricing comments are a recurring positive and may be important to prospective families comparing inclusive costs.

Notable concerns and variability: While the consensus is very positive, there are a few outlier reviews that allege poor staff quality, an unsafe environment, and inadequate cleanliness attributed to ownership. These claims are in the minority but notable because they conflict strongly with the majority of reports. Additionally, the mention of threadbare areas suggests that, while overall cleanliness and upkeep are praised, some cosmetic maintenance could be spotty. Because these negative comments are inconsistent with most accounts, prospective families should follow up during a tour and ask the administration about recent complaints, remediation, and ongoing maintenance schedules.

Recommendations for prospective families: The reviews suggest Manor of Ojai is a strong candidate for families seeking a smaller, home-like assisted living environment with attentive staff, homemade meals, varied activities, and transparent pricing. To address the small number of negative reports and any variability in physical conditions, visitors should tour the facility during activity times, meet the owner and caregiving staff, sample a meal if possible, inspect resident rooms and communal areas for wear and cleanliness, and ask specific questions about staffing ratios, training, infection-control policies, and how extra services (e.g., beauty salon) are billed. Asking for references or recent family contacts and inquiring how the facility documents and resolves complaints may also help reconcile the overwhelmingly positive testimonials with the isolated negative reports.

Bottom line: The dominant narrative across summaries is of a caring, family-oriented residential care home with strong management presence, good food, meaningful activities, and a clean, safe environment at an affordable price. The few contrary accounts warrant investigation but do not appear to represent the overall experience described by most reviewers.

About Manor of Ojai Residential Care

Manor of Ojai Residential Care sits at 108 W Eucalyptus St in Ojai, California, feeling a bit like one of those places that's been around a while and has its own story, and doesn't try to be too fancy, but you walk in and right away you notice it's clean and homey and the staff greet everyone with genuine warmth, because folks have said in their reviews that the people there are helpful and kind, and it shows. This place has both independent and assisted living, helping seniors who want a little bit of extra care with things like getting dressed, taking medicines, or enjoying meals in a dining room that's always bright and cheerful, sometimes even full of the smell of good food made by chefs and meal planners. There's a focus on making life comfortable, offering activities like bingo or movies, and there's always a day room alive with chatter and laughter, plus communal spaces where neighbors become friends.

You won't find pets here-it's a no pets policy-but you'll find staff who help with daily living and memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or other dementia, and they pay attention to each person's needs, right down to managing medication or helping with a bath safely, and if someone needs to stay for hospice or respite, they'll work it out. The building itself feels a bit nostalgic, a nod to years gone by, but everything's kept up and there are wheelchair accessible showers, full tubs, and resident parking, though you might want to check what kind of parking's really available since details are a bit vague. You'll find lots of programs and scheduled events, clubs, and mealtimes that get everyone together, and if someone needs to go to the doctor or hospital, those are close by, too.

Manor of Ojai tries to help people stay as independent as they want, with staff around at all hours, and there's always some sort of activity going on whether it's onsite or off, with even a beautician coming to the building, and devotional services for those who want them. Visiting hours are most days from nine to three, though those can change depending on the local COVID-19 rules, and they do pay attention to all the precautions, providing safety information as things change. The place gets good marks in reviews, averaging 4.3 stars from a handful of folks, and it's gotten some recognition in the Best of Senior Living awards, probably because of that real emphasis on friendly, joyful staff and a sense of community. Manor of Ojai sticks to policies that protect people from discrimination and aims to make everyone feel welcome, no matter who they are, and you'll notice the focus on wellness, independence, and dignity, which seems to make a difference for families who want peace of mind. They're run by Riverrun Enterprises, Inc., with the license CA RCFE #565801114, and the President/CEO oversees the whole operation, keeping care quality as a top concern.
