    Excellent care, management needs improvement

I'm torn: the nurses and doctors are excellent-attentive, courteous and available day or night-and the rooms are spacious, bright, the facility modern and the food wholesome with generous visiting hours. But chronic understaffing, poor communication, missing laundry, occasional cockroaches and security/theft concerns leave me uneasy about management.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is highly mixed, with a sharp divide between reviewers who praise the clinical care and those who raise serious operational and hygiene concerns. On the positive side, multiple reviewers emphasize strong clinical elements: nursing staff are described as "top-notch," doctors as attentive, and there is expressed confidence in the quality of care. Several reviewers also describe the facility as modern, clean, and inviting, and note spacious, well-lit rooms that contribute to a comfortable living environment. The facility's visiting policy and staffing availability are viewed positively by some — generous visiting hours and staff presence "day or night" are specifically highlighted. Dining also receives favorable mentions from some residents or family members, who call the food wholesome and tasty.

However, these positive impressions are offset by a cluster of serious negative reports that recur across reviews. The most alarming complaint is the presence of cockroaches, which directly contradicts descriptions of a clean environment and suggests inconsistent housekeeping or pest-control practices across different parts of the facility or at different times. Multiple reviewers report laundry not being returned or missing laundry, which points to logistical or workflow breakdowns in resident services. Cleanliness and maintenance are inconsistent in the accounts: while some reviewers call the facility modern and clean, others bluntly call it "dirty" or a "dump," indicating uneven standards or variable conditions between units or shifts.

Staffing and management emerge as another major theme. Several reviews state the facility is understaffed or has "few workers," and some suggest an over-reliance on a small number of people, including the cook and owner, to keep operations running. This perceived understaffing could be related to the service failures reported (laundry, cleanliness, pest control) and may also affect responsiveness and communication. Poor communication itself is a repeated concern — reviewers mention unclear or inadequate communication from staff or management, compounding family members' frustration when service or security issues arise.

Security and trust issues are also notable. Some reviewers explicitly call out security concerns and the risk of theft, which is a serious red flag for a senior living environment and would merit immediate attention from management. Taken together — pest reports, missing property, poor communication, and claims of theft risk — these items paint a picture of operational weaknesses that can severely undermine confidence in the facility, even where clinical care is otherwise praised.

In summary, the facility appears to deliver solid clinical care at times, with attentive nursing and medical staff and some residents enjoying good food and comfortable rooms. At the same time, there are repeated and significant complaints about hygiene, pest control, lost laundry, understaffing, poor communication, and security. The pattern suggests uneven performance: certain aspects (medical care, some staff members, visiting policy) are strengths, while operational and facility-management issues are persistent weaknesses for other reviewers. Prospective residents and families should weigh the high praise for clinical staff against the operational and safety concerns noted, and should ask management specific questions about pest control, laundry procedures, staffing ratios, incident reports related to theft or missing items, and recent measures taken to address communication and cleanliness inconsistencies.

    About New Horizon III

New Horizon III sits on about half an acre in Visalia, California, and has a smaller, homelike setting that feels less like an institution, and you know, it's been around since 1988, so people have gotten used to how things run. Folks here can find several kinds of care, including Memory Care, Assisted Living, Independent Living, and supportive residential homes spread throughout the neighborhood, so if someone needs a higher level of help or just wants their own space, they can fit in. The Memory Care staff have over 30 years' combined experience and work with residents who have Alzheimer's or other memory issues, and there's always staff on hand to help with medication, bathing, dressing, and other personal care whenever it's needed. Seniors who still want to remain active and take care of themselves can choose Independent Living, where they have private suites or shared rooms, a kitchenette, and their own bathroom, as well as basic services like housecleaning, linens, and maintenance, while meals are served restaurant-style with special diets or even organic food if that's what someone needs. People who need a bit more help can get Assisted Living, where the staff check on medication, help with day-to-day tasks, and make sure everyone stays safe with things like the 24-hour call system and nurses on site, and for those who require it, diabetic care and non-ambulatory services are available too, so there's help for a wide range of needs.

Every room is furnished and has air-conditioning, a telephone, internet, and cable, and, if someone wants to bring their pets, there's pet-friendly accommodations. The community offers various activities, from on-site games or scheduled events to devotional activities off-site, and there's both a small library and a beauty salon for anyone who wants them. There's a courtyard and gardens for fresh air, and a full-time activities director plans daily programs, both those that the community organizes and ones that residents run themselves, so people stay busy and connected, but if someone prefers peace and quiet, there are indoor common areas for socializing or just taking it easy. Staff speak Romanian as well as English, and there's medical support through caring nurses, a doctor on call, blood sugar monitoring, and incontinence care. There's transportation and parking, including rides to doctors' appointments and scheduling help, so getting around is handled when needed, and if a resident gets tired or has family out of town, there's respite care too. The staff keep an eye on health, mental wellness, and safety at all hours, adjusting care as needed to support both independence and well-being, and the aim is always to fit the care to what each senior needs, whether that's skilled nursing, help with medication, or simple companionship over meals and everyday routines.
