    Exceptional care, beautiful grounds, recommended

I moved my mom here and couldn't be happier - the staff are genuinely caring, attentive and make her feel safe and loved; the building is spotless, modern and set on gorgeous, well-maintained grounds with fantastic river and mountain views. Food is excellent (chef is amazing), activities are plentiful, and the community feels warm and family-like. It's pricier than others and I've noticed occasional staffing shortages, but overall I highly recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of Oakmont of Redding are overwhelmingly positive, with recurring praise for the staff, physical plant, dining, and overall resident experience. Across the large majority of summaries families and residents emphasize exceptional, compassionate and personalized care — staff are frequently described as remembering residents by name, offering one-on-one attention, and creating a family-like atmosphere. The facility itself is consistently called beautiful, modern, and luxurious, with standout features such as wide hallways, tall ceilings, expansive river and mountain views, well-kept landscaping, a grand foyer and grand piano, raised-bed gardens, and a resort-like ambience.

Care quality and staffing: Many reviewers highlight strong, attentive nursing and caregiving, including 24-hour nursing and med-tech coverage, effective teamwork, and thoughtful end-of-life/hospice support. Numerous specific anecdotes point to respectful, individualized interactions, staff who respond warmly to families, and administrators/marketing staff who make tours and transitions easy. That said, a recurring concern is staffing levels: several reviews report being short-staffed at times, which some families felt led to rushed care or slower response times. Memory care receives mixed notes — multiple accounts praise memory care staff as caring and competent, while a smaller set of reviewers describe inadequate dementia-specific care and slow responses for residents who need more intensive assistance. This is an important nuance: Oakmont is generally seen as well-staffed and professional, but families of higher-dependency residents should probe staffing ratios and dementia-care staffing during a tour and intake.

Facilities and accommodations: The physical facility is one of the most consistent positives. Reviewers repeatedly mention brand-new, modern construction, spacious apartments (including studios with kitchenettes and large split rooms), tasteful decor, private dining rooms, and a broad selection of amenity spaces — piano room, library, gazebo, courtyard, walking paths, salon, and organized outdoor access. Views of the Sacramento River and the Klamath mountains are frequently cited as a strong selling point. A few reviewers encountered on-site construction or unfinished areas during their visit, which appears to be a temporary situational note rather than the norm.

Dining and food service: Dining is another standout theme. Multiple reviewers describe the food as excellent — some calling it first-class, restaurant-quality, or “best in the country” — with a noted chef background (San Francisco) and named praise for the kitchen team. Flexible dining hours, private dining rooms, snack areas, and a variety of menu choices are mentioned. Conversely, a minority of comments indicate that dining options felt limited or that food quality did not always match marketing expectations; families should sample the dining program and ask about menu variety and substitutions if specific dietary needs or expectations exist.

Activities and social life: The community offers a broad array of activities reported across reviews: painting, bingo, puzzles, exercise classes adaptable for wheelchair users, outings (bird watching, Costco, lake trips), movie nights, and frequent social events. Many reviewers applaud the active social calendar and new friendships formed by residents. A smaller number of reviewers, however, felt activity levels were lower than expected or noted a lack of staff available to escort residents on walks or outings—again an issue tied back to staffing availability.

Value, management, and patterns of concern: Price is a clear and recurring consideration. Many families say Oakmont is top-dollar but worth the cost for the high-quality food, environment, and staff; others say pricing is expensive and raise concerns about all-inclusive expectations or tiered pricing complexity. A few reviewers referenced a perceived decline from past ownership standards or minor management issues, but these comments are less common than praise for the leadership and marketing teams. Cleanliness and organization are overwhelmingly praised, though a handful of reviews report inconsistent housekeeping. Overall pattern: overwhelmingly strong positives around staff, facilities, views, and dining, with the most significant and repeated negatives being cost and staffing levels that can occasionally affect responsiveness, cleaning or activity support.

Recommendation guidance: For prospective residents and families, Oakmont of Redding rates highly for independent and assisted-living residents who value high-quality accommodations, excellent dining, robust social programming, and personalized staff attention. For those needing intensive dementia care or highly hands-on medical support, the mixed reports on memory care and complaints about staffing shortages suggest families should (1) directly ask about current staffing ratios in memory and assisted units, (2) observe peak-shift operations, (3) inquire about emergency response times and protocols, and (4) clarify pricing structures and which services are included. Overall, the dominant themes point to a top-tier, resort-like senior living option with compassionate staff and excellent amenities, tempered by the practical considerations of cost and periodic staffing constraints.
