    Beautiful, compassionate community with limitations

I toured a lovely, well-run community with beautiful grounds, a nice lobby and gathering areas, and immaculate, odor-free units. The staff were professional, attentive and genuinely loving - welcoming on tour, great follow-up, and very good personalized care in a small, well-maintained memory unit. Dining is high-end and the dining area is clean and organized; activities, rides and arts & crafts are plentiful, and safety/pandemic communication was strong. Main downsides for me were limited outdoor space (partly used for smoking) and high prices - my care needs exceeded their offerings, but I'd recommend it for those seeking a compassionate, stress-free community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on exceptionally compassionate and professional staff, high standards of cleanliness, and a generally pleasant, well-run community atmosphere. Multiple reviewers highlighted staff attentiveness and personalized care, describing caregivers as loving, attentive, and professional. Tours left visitors feeling welcomed, and several reviewers specifically recommended the community’s memory care. The facility is frequently called immaculate, well-maintained, and peaceful, with residents appearing content and experiences described as stress-free.

Care quality and staffing are consistently praised. Reviewers note individualized attention, an attentive caregiving team, and strong follow-through from management. Several summaries point to the staff’s responsiveness during crises — specifically that residents were kept updated and safe during fires and the pandemic — which reinforces perceptions of competent operations and good communication. Memory care is singled out positively, with some reviewers explicitly recommending it, though there are also comments that a very small portion of prospective residents may have needs beyond what the community offers.

Facilities and grounds receive favorable mentions: the lobby, meeting rooms, and gathering areas are well-appointed and the grounds are called lovely and serene. At the same time, the outdoor space is a recurring concern. Multiple reviewers describe the outdoor area as small and insufficient; it is also noted that the outdoor area is used for smoking. There are comments that the site’s capacity for expansion is restricted by its location, which may limit future improvements to outdoor amenities or unit offerings.

Dining and food quality show mixed signals. Several reviewers praise the dining experience — calling it very good or high-end and noting a clean and organized dining room — while at least one review explicitly states the food was not very tasty. This split suggests variability in individual tastes or in meal experiences over time; however, many residents and visitors do view the food positively.

Social programming and daily life are portrayed positively. The community offers rides, arts and crafts, and engaging celebrations. Reviewers describe a cheery atmosphere, frequent activities, and organized social events, which contribute to a pleasant, community-oriented living environment. The presence of private single rooms with private bathrooms is noted as a plus for personal comfort and privacy.

Cost and capacity limitations are the primary drawbacks. Several reviewers described the community as expensive or in a high price range, and at least one review cited that the community was not a fit because the prospective resident’s care needs exceeded what the facility offers. Additionally, the memory care area is described by some as small, which could be a constraint for families evaluating long-term options or expecting growth in needs.

In summary, Oakmont of the Terraces is portrayed as a well-run, clean, and compassionate senior living community with strong staff, reassuring safety practices, and an active social calendar. It appears especially well-regarded for memory care and personalized attention. Prospective residents and families should weigh the generally positive caregiving and facility attributes against limited outdoor space, possible restrictions on physical expansion, and a higher price point. Finally, if dining quality is a deciding factor, visitors may want to sample meals themselves given the mixed comments on food taste.

    About Oakmont of the Terraces

Oakmont of the Terraces sits in Santa Rosa with a view overlooking Fountaingrove Country Club Golf Course, built in 2013 as a smaller community that holds about 33 residents in a newer, thoughtfully designed building, sharing space with Fountaingrove Lodge, and focusing on offering different choices for various care needs, which means folks here can go from assisted living to memory care as they need more help over time or if their health changes, and there's no need to move out if needs increase. The place runs as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) and is connected to Oakmont Senior Living, with support and services that go everywhere from basic help with dressing, bathing, and medication, all the way to diabetic care, incontinence, behavioral care, and hospice support. Residents can make use of a fee structure that's month-to-month, have private or semi-private rooms, and decorate apartments as they like, which makes settling in easier on everyone.

People here see nurses on staff around the clock, a doctor on call, and medication care managers, along with support for physical therapy, wound care, podiatry, and other health services, so if someone has special needs like needing a mechanical lift to transfer, or help managing diabetes, the care team, which also includes personal care assistants, can step in. The memory care program, called Traditions Memory Care, sits in its own safe building, and is purpose-built to keep folks who wander or show behaviors related to dementia safe, with bracelets and secured exits, raised beds and walking paths outside, and a focus on things like music and sensory activities. Staff in memory care know what they're doing with difficult or complex cases, including handling exit-seeking or major behavioral issues, so families can breathe a little easier knowing their loved one won't slip away unnoticed.

For daily life, Oakmont of the Terraces has outdoor parks, a garden, safe courtyards, and walking paths, which give residents a chance to get fresh air, go gardening, or just sit beneath an umbrella when the sun's out. There are indoor and outdoor common areas, a lounge with fireplaces and bookshelves, a game room, a theater with recliner seats for movies, and a beauty salon and day spa for hair or styling. Meals come from an executive chef and menus change every day, often using local and fresh food, with options for gluten-free, vegan, low-sodium, and vegetarian diets. There's a private dining room for family visits, and restaurant-style dining with round tables and scenic views from big windows, which adds a feeling of community at mealtimes. As far as activities, an energetic activities staff runs music, art, fitness classes like yoga or stretching, trivia, outings, wine tastings, gardening clubs, field trips, karaoke, and more educational talks, so there's always something to do for people who want to be busy or social.

The facility lets folks bring their pets, with a pet-friendly policy and a pet park, and help with pet care is available, so people can keep a cat or small dog as long as fits the community guidelines. There's free transportation for errands, outings, hospital trips, or just to get to the store, plus housekeeping and laundry, wheelchair-accessible showers, and linen service to make life simpler. Suites have private bathrooms and emergency call systems, and each building has security measures like sprinklers, a gated entrance, and 24-hour staff. Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a library are on site, and there are plenty of spaces for hobbies or quiet time.

Oakmont of the Terraces works closely with nearby medical services like Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Santa Rosa Community Health Centers, so extra medical attention is simple to arrange if needed, and the pharmacy is nearby for convenience. The community is designed to feel welcoming with wide windows, light hallways, and comfortable furniture, and there's a sense of belonging that extends to LGBTQ+ residents through nearby Fountaingrove Lodge. Veteran's VA aid help, concierge services, salon, and wellness center, all add to what's available. There's a blog, resources for caregivers, and the chance to see photos and videos of daily life, all so families know what to expect. Oakmont of the Terraces tries to embrace everyone in a safe and nurturing spot, giving peace of mind with services that fit changing needs but without overpromising perfection, which matters when health or memory are changing.
