    Compassionate staff but unsafe care

I had a deeply mixed stay. I'm grateful for many compassionate, skilled nurses, CNAs, therapists and an outstanding case manager - timely meds, clean rooms, good therapy, activities and a convenient location gave me real peace of mind at times. But chronic understaffing, poor communication, unresponsive caregivers, missed hygiene/meds, disorganized rehab, occasional theft and unsafe or early discharges left me worried and frustrated. In short: excellent individual staff and services at times, but inconsistent and sometimes unsafe institutional care - proceed with caution, especially for immobile/subacute patients.

    About Mountain View Convalescent Hospital

Mountain View Convalescent Hospital gives care to adults who need skilled nursing, rehab after surgery or illness, and help with daily activities, and the staff knows just how important simple comforts are, so they've got fully furnished rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, cable, phones, and Wi-Fi, and the place always feels bright because of the renovated living quarters and welcoming waiting rooms, plus there's a family-friendly atmosphere so visitors come every day of the week. The hospital has 114 beds, with 90 beds for regular nursing care and 24 more in a special sub-acute care unit for folks who need a lot of help with breathing, including ventilator support, tracheostomy care, and other respiratory therapies, so there's always somebody checking in to make sure patients are safe, with a 24-hour call system and round-the-clock supervision. The short-term rehabilitation unit has richly furnished rooms and the courtyards are beautiful-lots of gardens and a spot for resident gardening, and even an aviary, and you can always see people out there walking or just sitting. The care team, which includes doctors, social workers, on-site case managers, registered nurses, dietitians, and audiologists, all work together to make personal care plans because no two people need exactly the same thing, and whether someone's healing after a hospital stay or living with progressive memory loss, they try to match services and support to each person's needs. There's help for all the basics-bathing, dressing, medication, and transfers-and if someone needs special equipment to regain skills, it's all on hand, because therapy is a big part of what they do. Their rehabilitation staff handles physical therapy, focused on lower body strength and balance-so people can walk more safely-along with occupational therapy for improving movement and hand strength, and speech therapy for those with trouble talking or swallowing. The sub-acute unit is for advanced cases, with special care and respiratory equipment for patients who need more than regular nursing care, and they're well set up with complex wound care and experienced nurses who know what to look for. For folks with dementia or memory challenges, the staff offers a program tailored to each stage, with lots of emotional support mixed in. Beyond medical stuff, Mountain View Convalescent Hospital tries to keep things lively, so there are activities, a fitness room, a computer center, a library, and group fun, plus there's a specialty chef and planned outings, and if anyone needs a ride-to appointments or for other reasons-the hospital arranges transportation through the community. Above all, the caregivers aim to make the place feel inviting, which isn't always easy in a hospital, but with the landscaped grounds, garden area, and caring staff, the feeling is more of comfort and steady support, so families and residents know there's help at any hour of the day or night.
