    Attentive, compassionate, family-like residential care

I've had a loved one here for two years and feel very fortunate - owner Patty and caregivers like Raymond, Myra, Ramon and Lulu are compassionate, know residents by name, and truly treat people like family. The bright, impeccably clean home offers scratch-cooked meals, daily personal care and 24/7 support, helps with healthcare navigation, PT and hospice, and hosts family events with lovely Conejo Valley views; I recommend it for attentive, dignified care.

    Summary of reviews

Thousand Oaks Home Care - 9 Sidlee is consistently described as a small, home-like setting with an emphasis on individualized, family-style care. Reviewers praise a compassionate staff and hands-on ownership, noting that caregivers learn residents’ names, provide emotional support, and maintain residents’ dignity. Several families highlighted long-term placements and continuity of care, and specific caregivers and the owner are frequently singled out for being attentive and reassuring.

Dining and daily routines are a strong positive in the reviews. House-made, from-scratch meals served family-table style are regularly noted, as are assistance with bathing and daily personal needs. The home coordinates with outside clinical services — including twice-weekly home health visits, physical therapy, hospice, and transportation — and reviewers describe help navigating medical appointments and services.

The facility environment is described as clean, bright, and well-maintained, with pleasant views of the Conejo Valley. Staff organize family-inclusive activities and observances such as birthdays and holidays, contributing to a home-like atmosphere. Management participation and communication with families are also described positively; reviewers report being kept informed during care transitions and having privacy respected during sensitive moments.

A consistent pattern of operational limitations also appears. The setting is better suited to ambulatory or moderately dependent residents rather than those with high fall risk or full non-ambulatory needs. Reviewers indicate instances that point to gaps in fall-prevention systems and environmental safety features (for example, bed alarms and railings), and a few comments suggest staffing levels can be thin on certain shifts. Together these factors imply limited capacity to safely manage residents with substantial mobility or transfer needs without augmented staffing or equipment.

For prospective residents and families, the facility’s strengths are its personalized, compassionate caregiving, home-cooked meals, cleanliness, and active family engagement. Those considering placement should assess clinical needs and mobility status carefully: if a prospective resident requires extensive transfer assistance, continuous monitoring for fall risk, or higher-acuity nursing care, families should clarify staffing patterns, available safety equipment, and contingency plans before placement.

About Thousand Oaks Home Care - 9 Sidlee

Thousand Oaks Home Care - 9 Sidlee sits right in a peaceful, residential part of Thousand Oaks, California, at 9 West Sidlee Street, and has a license through the California Department of Social Services with license number 565850195, so folks know they're in a place with real oversight, and the whole place looks and feels like a big comfortable house, not some big loud building with too many people coming and going-there's a limit of about six residents at a time, sometimes fewer, so everybody gets more attention. The staff helps people all day and night with things like getting dressed, bathing, walking around, and taking medicine, always close by if someone needs help or has an emergency, and there's an alert system for peace of mind. People can pick a private or semi-private room, and they're allowed to bring things from home to decorate and make it their own. The staff takes care of incontinence needs, helps with meals-three every day, plus snacks, and meals are cooked with health in mind, but they make sure it tastes good too. The staff manages medications safely and works alongside nurses, doctors, and even hospice teams if that need comes up, plus there are doctor and podiatrist visits that come out, and therapy like physical, speech, and occupational sessions if the doctor says they're needed. The home welcomes pets, and there's space outside with walking paths, gardens, fruit trees, vegetable beds, and big patios where folks can get plenty of fresh air or just listen to birds. Activities like movie nights, group meals, music therapy, pet visits, and seasonal celebrations try to keep everyone feeling connected and engaged, and people who need memory care get extra attention so they stay safe and comfortable. Staff is used to supporting folks with changing needs, so they set up personalized care plans and check in with families often, since families are real important in this place. The caregivers are well-trained, and with not too many residents, people get to know each other well, and staff can notice little changes that might mean someone needs more help. Transportation's available to get residents to appointments and errands, there's parking if families visit, and everywhere has sturdy handrails, grab bars, and non-slip flooring so the environment tries to stay as safe as possible. There are five homes run under the Thousand Oaks Home Care name, each with the same approach, focusing on comfort, personal care, and helping older adults hang on to as much independence as they can, whether they need a lot of help or just a bit, and this one on Sidlee offers short stays for respite too, so families can have a break when they need it. The staff always aims for a balance of care and independence, trying to make sure residents feel respected and looked after, all while living in a familiar, family-style setting in a quiet neighborhood.
