    Bright facility, inconsistent care, beware

I had a mixed experience. The building is bright, remodeled and very clean, and many staff-therapy, CNAs and admissions-were professional, friendly and clearly invested in rehab and recovery; my family member made real progress. That said, care was inconsistent: call buttons were often slow or ignored, medications and basic hygiene were sometimes delayed or missed, and understaffing/management gaps created safety and communication concerns-worth a visit, but watch for those issues.

    Summary review

These reviews present a highly polarized picture of Sherwood Oaks Post Acute. Many reviewers praise the physical facility — repeatedly described as clean, bright, renovated and attractive — and report positive interactions with admissions, front desk and several specific staff members. A consistent strength across many accounts is the therapy program: physical and occupational therapy and rehab services receive frequent, emphatic praise for helping residents make measurable progress, and multiple reviewers singled out therapists who went above and beyond. Numerous comments also highlight compassionate nurses and CNAs, attentive individual employees, homemade-tasting meals, and a welcoming, well‑maintained environment.

Counterbalancing these positive reports are numerous, serious complaints that point to operational and safety problems. Multiple reviewers report unresponsive staff and ignored call buttons, long waits for assistance, missed or delayed medication administration, and failures to deliver meals. There are multiple accounts of safety incidents including falls and at least one report of a patient being dropped on arrival; other safety-related problems include broken equipment and untreated infections such as UTIs that reportedly progressed to severe illness. Several families describe neglectful hygiene practices (for example, residents kept in wet undergarments during showers) and overmedication in other cases.

Management and staffing issues are recurrent themes. Many reviewers attribute the negative incidents to understaffing, particularly on weekends and nights, and to poor leadership or administration that does not respond adequately to complaints. Some reviews allege profit-driven ownership and claim management lied about incidents, while others praise accessible and proactive leaders and administrators — underscoring wide variability in leadership experience. There are also serious allegations in the reviews including staff abuse charges, theft of personal items, and ethnic discrimination; these raise concerns about oversight, resident safety, and staff accountability.

Communication problems are frequently mentioned. Families report difficulties contacting staff by phone, delayed discharge instructions, inconsistent updates on patient condition, and challenges reaching physicians. COVID-19 visitation restrictions compounded these communication problems for some families. At the unit level, reviewers report inconsistent enforcement of intake/activity plans and uneven attention to dementia care, with some residents observed wandering or sitting in hallways unsupervised. Activities staff are praised in some reports but described as poorly run or neglectful in others, again reflecting inconsistent execution.

Dining and daily living support receive mixed reviews. While several family members enjoyed meals described as homemade and tasty, other reviewers described cold or missing meals and patients not being fed or positioned properly at mealtime. Environmental issues such as loud TVs without headsets, sleep disruption from nighttime disturbances, and isolated reports (heating shut off) were also noted. Parking and visitor logistics came up repeatedly as inconvenient: staff taking visitor spaces, congestion, and visiting hours/conflicts that affected families.

In summary, Sherwood Oaks Post Acute appears to deliver exemplary experiences for some residents — particularly in therapy/rehab achievement, certain compassionate staff interactions, a clean and attractive physical environment, and strong admissions/front‑desk service — while other residents and families report severe lapses in basic nursing care, safety, communication, and management responsiveness. The overall pattern suggests significant variability in care quality tied to staffing levels, shift coverage (weekends/nights), and local management practices. Many reviewers explicitly state the facility has potential if leadership and staffing were more consistent; others recommend avoiding the facility due to the risk of neglect or safety incidents. Families considering Sherwood Oaks should weigh the positive reports about therapy and facility amenities against the documented concerns about medication errors, missed care, safety incidents, and inconsistent management follow-through, and should monitor care and communication closely if choosing this facility.

The building stays clean and bright, and the rooms are semi-private, giving people a chance to rest while also connecting with others, and you'll find an expansive, top-notch rehab gym for physical, occupational, recreational, and speech therapies, all run by licensed staff, with services provided up to seven days a week depending on a patient's needs, because the main goal here is helping each person recover after injury, illness, or surgery, and reach the best level of independence possible. There's advanced wound care and antibiotic therapy, and you'll find help for respiratory and pulmonary conditions, as well as strong pain management programs, and for those coming out of surgery, recovery plans are put together by a full team, including nurses, therapists, and dietitians, who meet regularly to review progress and make changes as needed. The place takes infection control seriously, with up-to-date safety measures that include PPE like masks, gloves, and gowns, especially when caring for people with high-acuity conditions or infectious diseases such as COVID-19, so families can visit safely between 8 am and 8 pm, which helps lift spirits for residents. There's a big focus on patient-centered routines, with restaurant-style meals designed by a registered dietitian, and a full activities calendar managed by an Activities Director who knows how to keep people engaged, whether it's indoor and outdoor events or just small social gatherings, and bedside TVs make downtime easier. Sherwood Oaks lets families stay in the loop, even allowing direct texts to the caseworker with any concerns, and the Director of Nursing keeps in touch with families to answer bigger questions. There's help with medication management through an off-site pharmacy, valet and concierge services for convenience, and a front desk open during office hours to guide families through admissions, insurance options, and anything else that comes up. Admissions staff are known to be helpful and kind, with family testimonials often mentioning professional, attentive care, and a general sense that staff treat residents as part of their own family, not just as patients; families seem to trust the nurses, caseworkers, and therapists here. Sherwood Oaks Post Acute stands out for combining skilled nursing, personalized rehab, advanced care services, and a sense of warmth that helps both patients and their families feel comfortable during what can be a stressful time.
