    Loving, professional dementia care provided

I'm very satisfied with the loving, professional care my family member received - attentive CNAs and medical staff (Allison, Rachel Kosterlitzky, Debbie, Teresa) were compassionate, patient, and respectful. The dementia/Walden Way unit is clean, homey, and active with good food and responsive staff; I felt they were truly in good hands.

    Summary of reviews

Allison Care Center presents a mixed picture in these summaries. Many families emphasize the facility’s strengths: a warm, home‑like atmosphere, a visible commitment to dementia care through programs such as Walden Way, and an active activities program that includes outings and social events. Caregiving staff—including CNAs and other clinical team members—are frequently described as caring, attentive, and skilled at creating positive resident interactions. Several administrators and staff members received specific praise for organization, bedside manner, and responsiveness, and reviewers commonly noted that the facility’s common areas are clean and that recent remodeling has improved the environment.

Activities and social programming are a clear asset. Multiple accounts highlight an engaged activities director, regular events that promote resident engagement, and transport for outings. These elements appear to contribute to improved mood and social connection for residents, especially those in the Alzheimer’s/dementia unit. Dining is likewise noted positively by many families: several reviewers described enjoyable meals and supportive dining staff.

At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns that prospective families should assess during a tour. Staffing consistency and coverage emerged as a prominent issue—reviewers described times when the facility felt understaffed, with consequent impacts on personal care schedules, bathing frequency, dressing, and night‑time presence. Cleanliness and sanitation were generally praised for common areas, but there were multiple references to odor concerns and variable room-level cleanliness that suggest inconsistent housekeeping practices in parts of the facility. Infrastructure limitations such as the absence of central air and reliance on supplemental cooling were also mentioned.

Clinical responsiveness and communication are other areas of mixed feedback. While some families reported prompt hospital transfers and compassionate clinical care, others described delays in clinical response and gaps in follow‑up communication from management and the front desk. These communication lapses extend to administrative processes and admission/paperwork experiences. There are also notes about uneven enforcement of visitation and infection‑control policies (for example, inconsistent masking expectations), and comments about variable professionalism among some nursing staff.

A few reviewers described more serious concerns related to end‑of‑life coordination and hospice advocacy; one recurring phrasing referenced aggressive hospice-enrollment activity. These characterizations are significant and warrant direct inquiry during any decision process. Overall, Allison Care Center offers notable strengths in dementia programming, activities, and compassionate caregiving, but the variability in staffing, room‑level sanitation, clinical response timeliness, and management follow‑through means prospective residents and families should perform targeted due diligence: ask for current staffing ratios (including night coverage), written bathing and toileting protocols, examples of clinical‑incident communication, details of hospice referral practices, and documentation of recent quality or regulatory reviews.

    About Allison Care Center

Allison Care Center sits at 1660 Allison Street in Lakewood, Colorado, and is a nursing and rehabilitation center that serves older adults with different disabilities and care needs, and you'll find it managed by Vivage Senior Living as part of the CHCA District I group, and it's focused on providing both short-term and long-term skilled nursing care, along with support for chronic illnesses like IV therapy, wound care, and respiratory therapy, and, for folks recovering from surgery or illness, there are physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy programs, both inpatient and for those preparing to return home, and you'll see that there's also long-term care for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, with a secure dementia care neighborhood that uses wander guard safety systems to keep residents safe, plus memory care staff who create individual service plans and use tools like the Virtual Dementia Tour® to help staff better understand the experience of dementia, and you'll notice there are hospice services, as well as activity programs and person-centered care that tries to keep residents engaged based on their own interests, so the care partners, as they're called, work together with on-site therapists and clinical care partners to support therapeutic needs, though you won't find much detail about extra amenities or features, and right now, unfortunately, the facility isn't accepting new patients, and there's no information about languages spoken besides English, but transportation is available for medical appointments and hospital visits, which can take some pressure off family, and although there's no available fax number, the main focus of Allison Care Center remains on skilled nursing, rehabilitation, memory care, and offering a safe place for older adults with complex needs.
