    Moved mother in, very pleased

I toured here and moved my mother in - I'm very pleased. The property and community are beautiful and spotless, rooms (including memory care) are large, activities are excellent, and the dining room offers a broad, appealing selection. Staff are caring, skilled, communicative, and management is hands-on; I felt her needs were treated with respect and dignity. I highly recommend this facility for quality, safe senior care.

    Summary of reviews

Balfour Retirement Community receives frequent praise for its caregiving team and physical environment. Many reviewers describe staff as compassionate, skilled, and friendly, and the facility is often characterized as clean and odor-free with attractive, upscale amenities. Families commonly note good room housekeeping, smooth move-in experiences, timely family communication, and an overall sense of safety within the community. Memory-care accommodations are often described as spacious, and the campus offers a broad range of amenities consistent with higher-tier senior living.

Care and staffing are commonly seen as strengths at the direct-care level: caregivers are described as kind, respectful, and attentive, and several accounts highlight competent clinical care in the skilled nursing unit. At the same time, reviewers describe operational patterns that can affect continuity of care. Staff turnover and inconsistent staffing levels have been noted, as have gaps in training related to transfers and clinical transitions; several families reported difficulty when a resident’s needs changed or when staff-to-staff handoffs were required. A few reviewers also raised infection-control concerns and described quarantine or exposure events, which prospective families should review with management.

Dining and activities are prominent positives for many residents. The dining room is described as light and appealing, and the food receives frequent praise for selection and quality. However, there are mixed comments about consistency of food quality and complaints about meal-plan pricing and perceived value. The activities program is reported to be diverse and engaging, contributing to resident satisfaction for many households.

Facility upkeep and amenities are generally viewed favorably: the property is described as beautiful and well-maintained, with high-end finishes typical of an upscale community. Nonetheless, some operational details were raised—specifically, inconsistent bathroom housekeeping unless requested, and technology/connectivity limitations in certain apartments (for example, internet access issues related to unit location).

Administrative and business-practice concerns are a recurring theme in the reviews. Several reviewers report difficulties with administrative responsiveness, unresolved complaints, and a lack of follow-up from the sales team after move-in. Financial issues are also noted, including surprise charges, transfer fees, and questions about billing transparency and price increases. Some reviewers perceive management decisions as financially driven rather than service-driven; prospective residents should seek clear, written explanations of fees, refund policies, and what triggers higher levels of care and associated costs.

Overall, Balfour appears to offer strong front-line caregiving, attractive facilities, and an active lifestyle for many residents. The main cautionary patterns relate to administrative responsiveness, billing transparency, staff stability, and certain operational practices (transfer training, infection-control protocols, and in-unit technology). Prospective residents and families would benefit from targeted questions during a tour: ask about staffing ratios and turnover, written transfer and escalation procedures, infection-control policies and recent outcomes, sample meal-plan costs and refund policies, and unit-specific internet connectivity options. These checks will help align expectations with the community’s strengths and address the operational areas highlighted by reviewers.

    About Balfour Retirement Community

Balfour Retirement Community sits in Louisville, Colorado, close to Boulder and Denver, right at the base of the Rocky Mountains, so residents can see some lovely views and get to nearby parks, eateries, and events pretty easily with the included transportation, which goes within a 15-mile radius and doesn't cost extra. The address is 1855 Plaza Dr, Louisville, CO 80027. The community runs all day and night, so there's always staff around. People living at Balfour can choose from independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care, and they're able to stay in the same community even if their care needs increase over time, which is sometimes called aging in place. The Villa at Balfour is one of their retirement communities, and the whole place is managed by Balfour Senior Living with ties to Kisco Senior Living.

Rooms are designed for comfort and elegance, especially in memory care, where the rooms are quite large. There's onsite parking for residents and visitors. Balfour allows both male and female residents and offers options for female-only accommodation. They welcome residents' pets, including dogs and cats, and have some pet-focused activities and programs. For short-term stays, maybe for a break or after a hospital visit, the community offers respite care with a two-week minimum and up to 30 days, costing $350 per day.

For care, there's a whole range of staff, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), certified nursing assistants (CNAs), QMAPs, PCPs, and other healthcare professionals, and they're trained to match each level of care. There's always someone around, with 24/7 nursing staff and a medical director on-site. The staff help with day-to-day needs like bathing, grooming, toileting, and reminders for daily activities. Memory care residents live in a secure area with safety measures to prevent wandering. The team also manages diabetic care, medication, and specialized help for people with behavioral or physical challenges, including assistance for those who are an elopement risk. Therapy options like physical, speech, and occupational therapy, plus visits from podiatrists and dentists, are available. Hospice care is also offered.

Apartments in independent living start at $6,300 per month for a one-bedroom, memory care starts at $8,500 per month, and assisted living studio apartments start at $5,850 per month. The community fee is about $5,000.

Meals come with most levels of care, with executive chefs and professional kitchen staff preparing a variety of options, from restaurant-style dining and room service to Sunday brunches, birthday dinners, and special holiday meals. Residents can find vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, low/no sodium or sugar, and organic meals. There's also a private dining room, and meal plans are flexible, especially in independent living. There are indoor and outdoor common areas, plus beautician and barber shops, resident parking, accessible showers and tubs, and wellness programs.

Balfour offers a full schedule of social, educational, and recreational programs to keep residents active and connected. Activities include art and cooking classes, yoga and stretch classes, intergenerational and gardening clubs, live well programs, trivia, trips out, and more. There's also devotional services on and off the property. Residents and families stay in touch through a resident portal system.

The facility is wheelchair accessible throughout, with secured areas for memory care and extra safety protocols in place. For support, they provide complaint-handling channels and access to an ombudsman in every building. Different residents can find care matching their needs, from light help to heavy care, including standby assistance for transfers, even mechanical lifts when needed. Balfour does try to make things welcoming, and staff are generally helpful and kind, so people can feel at ease whether they're there for a short stay or planning to live there for the long term.
