    Loving small home care facility

I placed my mom in a small, home-like greenhouse house and I'm very pleased. The low staff-to-resident ratio means loving, respectful CNAs who check in frequently, cook homemade meals, keep rooms spotless and safe (COVID protocols in place), and even helped her walk on day one - staff communicate regularly and go above and beyond. It truly feels like home and is far better than a hospital or traditional nursing home; I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed but consistent picture: several families praise the Green House Homes at Mirasol model for its small, home-like environment, attentive caregivers, and individualized, whole-person care. Many accounts emphasize clean, comfortable rooms, frequent caregiver check-ins, low resident counts per house, and home-style meals. Some families described measurable improvements in mobility and wellbeing shortly after admission, and others highlighted warm staff–family relationships and regular communication from caregivers.

At the same time, a set of operational weaknesses emerges repeatedly. Communication with clinical staff and physicians is described as inconsistent, with family members experiencing delays answering medical questions and difficulty reaching staff by phone. Staffing instability — including frequent turnover, reliance on temporary personnel unfamiliar with residents, and cross-unit coverage gaps — is a recurrent concern. Reviewers link these staffing patterns to scheduling problems, variable continuity of care, and missed or late medication administration.

Dining and activities receive mixed feedback. Positive remarks reference homemade meals and a pleasant dining atmosphere in some houses; negative remarks describe inconsistent food quality and questions about culinary staffing. Activity offerings appear limited in some houses, with families describing minimal structured programming and residents spending extended time in rooms, while other small homes report more active engagement and individualized activities.

Facility-level variation and management issues are notable themes. Several families report meaningful differences between buildings or units (for example, quarantine or temporary units versus the permanent home), and there are repeated concerns about unclear visitation procedures and lack of timely phone responsiveness. Financial concerns are also present: families cite fee increases and question whether service levels consistently match cost. A few accounts indicate lapses in maintenance of assistive devices and isolated care-practice incidents that raise incontinence-care and dignity concerns.

Taken together, the pattern suggests that the Green House Homes at Mirasol model can deliver a warm, small-house environment with attentive caregiving and individualized attention, but experience is sensitive to staffing stability, unit-level management, and operational execution. Prospective residents and families would benefit from targeted questions during tours: current staffing ratios and turnover rates for the specific house, medication-administration protocols and audit practices, sample activity schedules, kitchen staffing and menu consistency, device-maintenance procedures, recent fee changes and what they cover, and how family communication and visitation are handled during infection-control events.

About Green House Homes at Mirasol

The Green House Homes at Mirasol in Loveland, Colorado, has nine homes, each with space for ten residents, and they're laid out so each person has their own private room and bathroom, but everyone comes together to share meals at a big dining table like family, which makes it easy to visit and feel less alone, and there are open kitchens, living rooms, and gardens where folks can do a bit of gardening if they want to, and it's quieter without those big central nursing stations so the spaces feel friendly and homelike rather than institutional, plus they use a self-managed work model where the Shahbazim, who are direct-care providers, handle much of the home's needs and act as managers, so the team includes Shahbazim, nurses, guides, and sages, each focusing on person-directed care to help the residents keep their dignity, privacy, and independence as best as possible, and they have a long-term care philosophy built around deep relationships between staff, residents, and families, where staff get training in person-directed care, communication, and trust, and some of them speak other languages besides English, which can help a lot sometimes, and they've got registered dietitians for nutrition, plus on-site physical medicine, rehabilitation, and therapy equipment for things like physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy, and the community has gardens, a calendar of activities, caregiving resources, and advice for families who might need it, and folks can volunteer to help or join events, and all this is managed by Vivage Senior Living under a nonprofit status since 2012, and it's all based on the Green House Project Model for a real-home environment, with thoughtful design using natural light and elements from nature, so the place feels warm and easy to live in, and right now they aren't taking new residents but they'll give updates if space opens up later, and there's no lobby or front desks but it's more about creating a place where people-staff, residents, and families-can form strong, friendly bonds and laugh together, and the facility's had a 3.6 average rating from reviews, which means experiences are mixed, but most folks seem to settle in alright.
