    Bright peaceful community attentive staff

I moved into a bright, clean one-bedroom in this peaceful rural community and have been very pleased: the staff are warm, attentive and helpful, the food and on-site café are solid, apartments have full kitchens and ample storage, and there are plenty of activities and amenities (library, game/puzzle rooms, outings, shuttle, gardens). It feels safe, well-maintained, dog-friendly and good value for the area. Drawbacks: it's a bit far from family and a few areas are dated with occasional service/communication hiccups, but overall I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of Creamery Brook Village are mixed but lean positive in several key areas, especially staff, community life, cleanliness, and the availability of activities and services. Many reviewers emphasize compassionate, attentive staff (from nurses and aides to kitchen and office personnel), frequent and varied activities, and a well-maintained, inviting environment. However, there are recurring and serious negative reports — notably inconsistent food quality, pest problems, and infrastructure issues (water failures, lack of backup power) — that create a split in resident and family experiences.

Staff and care quality: The dominant positive theme across reviews is praise for the staff. Multiple reviewers call staff friendly, caring, and attentive; specific mentions include amazing nurses and aides, office staff who provide regular family updates, and kitchen/dining teams that engage with residents (chefs checking in at dinner). Many family members report feeling peace of mind because of 24/7 staff coverage and assisted living services that support aging in place. That said, there is at least one serious outlier complaint describing unmet health needs (missing supplements for two months and inadequate attention to medical requirements). This suggests the majority experience is of good personal attention, but there are some concerning exceptions that warrant follow-up.

Facilities and apartments: Reviews indicate a facility with both updated and dated elements. Positive specifics include brand-new one-bedroom units with separate living rooms and kitchens, ample closet space, large bathrooms with handicap-accessible showers, elevators, and on-floor laundry. The community is described as small, homey, and scenic — a rural/country setting with a stream and quiet nights. Conversely, several reviewers note older/dated areas with creaky floors. Some apartments have small kitchens or one-bedroom layouts that some prospective residents find inadequate. The presence of a wait list and comments about value (some reviewers noting lower prices than competitors) suggest the facility meets demand for those seeking an affordable, smaller-community option.

Dining and kitchen operations: Dining reviews are notably mixed. Many reviewers praise the food, describing great meals, accommodating chefs, delicious aromas, and special events (spaghetti night, snack bar offerings). A number of residents appreciate multiple meal plans and the flexibility to take leftovers. Contrastingly, other reviewers report poor dining experiences: canned or frozen meals, small portions, overcooked/greasy/salty items, and a kitchen that is unresponsive to dietary needs. The coexistence of “top-notch food” and “horrible canned meals” comments points to inconsistent kitchen performance or variability over time or between dining services. Families visiting should ask for current menus, sample meals when possible, and inquire about how special diets are accommodated.

Activities, amenities, and transportation: Activity programming is a strong positive. Reviews repeatedly list diverse offerings — cooking classes, library events, exercise and chair aerobics, bingo, walking groups, puzzles, game rooms, and organized outings/field trips. Transportation for longer outings and shuttle service to nearby events is appreciated. On-site amenities (cafe, general store, small bank, activity rooms) and visiting services (podiatrist, hairdresser) contribute to a full-service, active community life. This programming appears to be one of the facility’s consistent strengths.

Management, communication, and value: Several reviewers highlight helpful marketing and office staff, clear tours, and regular family communication, with some families noting staff provide regular updates. Positive comments about reasonable pricing and value occur alongside remarks about unclear pricing details and staff occasionally being short on administrative information. The facility appears in demand (wait list), yet some prospective residents were uncertain about cost structure or specifics during touring. Interested families should request an itemized fee schedule, ask about what is included in base rent versus extra services, and verify policies (guest meals, pet visitation, etc.).

Notable problems and risk areas: The most serious patterns to note are reports of pest infestations (mice and cockroaches) and routine insecticide use, along with infrastructure failures — specifically water system outages and no backup power. These issues, when accurate, are quality-of-life and safety concerns that require management attention and transparency. Additionally, the inconsistency in dining and at least one report of unmet medical needs indicate potential variability in operational excellence. There are also social concerns for some residents about cliquish or snobbish behavior among residents, which can impact fit for newcomers.

Conclusion and recommendations: Creamery Brook Village offers a lot that families and seniors value: a caring staff, abundant activities, full-service amenities, accessible apartments with safety features, scenic rural location, and perceived good value. However, mixed reports about food quality, pest control issues, infrastructure reliability, occasional administrative opacity, and at least one serious care lapse mean prospective residents should conduct detailed due diligence. Recommended steps before committing: tour multiple times (including meal times), request to sample food, ask about pest control history and current mitigation, confirm emergency power/water backup plans, obtain written policies and a full fee schedule, and speak with current residents and families about recent experiences. Those steps will help validate the overwhelmingly positive themes while revealing whether the reported negatives are isolated incidents or ongoing problems.

    About Creamery Brook Village

Creamery Brook Village sits in the quiet eastern Connecticut countryside in the historic town of Brooklyn, right on 29 acres that stretch along Creamery Brook, and the grounds are shared between Creamery Brook Village and Pierce Memorial Health Center so there's a calm, peaceful setting with lots of nature and even meadow paths for easy walks, and residents see forested lanes and pretty gardens all around, which gives the place a gentle, country feeling. Creamery Brook Village is a retirement community for adults 55 and older and offers several living choices, like three-bedroom, two-bath cottages with garages, as well as one or two-bedroom apartments that are fairly roomy, all on a campus near scenic routes at the junction of Route 205 and Route 169, so local shops, golf courses, restaurants, theaters, and historic sites are an easy drive away, which means there's always something nearby for outings or errands, and there's free transportation for residents for trips, appointments, or activities offsite.

Creamery Brook Village offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care options, so residents can pick what fits them best and if anyone's health needs increase they can arrange for extra help or move up through the levels of care, with priority access to Pierce Memorial Baptist Home for any short-term rehab or long-term care if that ever becomes needed, and if someone wants to stay at home, there are aides who can help with companionship and non-medical support. The community is not-for-profit and faith-based, and they say they're rooted in compassion and respect, trying to keep a warm, friendly atmosphere with caring and helpful staff, and there's a waiting list for those who want to move in, which gives a sense that some people want to settle in here.

Day-to-day, the place covers the basics like food with dining services in each area, room service if needed, and cleaning-there's laundry, housekeeping, and even private cleaning services if folks want that, plus an in-house hair salon and a bistro area, and every room has cable and internet. For staying active, there's a gym, outdoor patios, gardens, and putting green, plus programs like Tai Chi and craft groups, game nights, story time, music, Nintendo Wii bowling, and cooking club, and if anyone's got hobbies or special needs, the community says they work to support those, even for people who need dietary adjustments like low sodium or vegetarian meals. People with pets can bring their close pets along, and there's handicap access and resident parking, with computer areas and Wi-Fi throughout the common spaces, so most basic conveniences are covered.

On the health side, residents have access to medication help, scheduled visits from occupational and physical therapists, mental health care, hospice, skilled nursing, help with daily tasks like dressing and showering, and memory care with safe walking areas and supportive design, and those who have memory issues-like Alzheimer's or dementia-get specialized services with features meant to keep everyone comfortable and safe and help reduce confusion or wandering. For folks recovering from something or giving family a rest, short-term rehab and respite care are available and, for spiritual needs, there are on-site religious services and support. The facility brings in personal aides, doctor appointment companions, and offers help with transfers, including with Hoyer lifts if someone needs it to move around safely.

The community's common areas have TVs and recreation rooms, outdoor walking paths, and lots of places for residents to gather for conversation or quiet time. Creamery Brook Village has won the Best of Senior Living and All-Star awards, based on reviews about its care, staff, and community activities, and while it's only received one review online that gave it five stars, those interested can expect basic, solid options for senior living with access to helpful services and various types of support all in a peaceful, country setting.
