    Caring staff, beautiful facility, pricey

I moved my mom here and I'm very glad we did - the staff are caring, friendly and proactive, the building is beautiful, clean and recently remodeled, and the rooms, amenities and variety of activities really help her thrive. Nursing and PCAs have been attentive and comforting, and the community made the move-in smooth. Caveats: it's expensive (with surprise increases and extra fees), meals and housekeeping can be inconsistent, call-response and some nursing/administrative communication are spotty, and ongoing renovations/complex layout can be confusing. Overall a warm, professional place I'd recommend if the cost fits your budget - read the contract carefully.

About Benchmark Senior Living at Hamden

Benchmark Senior Living at Hamden sits on a quiet wooded hilltop with mountain views and overlooks the center of Hamden, Connecticut, with clear views of New Haven and Long Island Sound on good days, so people who like a change in scenery might enjoy watching the seasons shift here, and although the buildings look tidy and kept up with nice landscaping, a covered entry, walking paths, and outdoor courtyards, the inside feels home-like with comfortable seating areas, a fireplace, and even a grand piano for folks who like music in the afternoons. The community has several apartment choices such as studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms, and these units have sitting areas, TV, coffee tables, kitchenettes with necessary appliances, and bathrooms made for easy movement and safety if someone uses a walker or wheelchair, and there are private dining rooms if anybody wants a special occasion or just some peace and quiet with family. Benchmark offers assisted living for people who can mostly care for themselves but need extra help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or keeping up with medicine, so residents can have support from a team that handles housekeeping, laundry, meals with modified diets if needed, and provides round-the-clock care for when things change as people get older. The memory care community helps those with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, using unique care plans, secure environments to prevent wandering, and structured activities to keep minds active, and there's also respite care for anyone needing a short break, whether it's a few days or longer, plus skilled nursing for folks recovering from a hospital stay or for those who need medical support on a daily basis, and all these care types come alongside independent living for folks who just want to socialize and keep up with activities but don't need hands-on help every day. Amenities include a library, computer room, free Wi-Fi, ice cream parlor, billiards lounge, beauty salon, fitness center, outdoor patios, raised gardening beds, and services like transportation, appointment help, and regular housekeeping, and there are always social activities or devotional services, whether on-site or off, so it's often busy but can be quiet if people want that as well. Restaurant-style dining brings chef-prepared meals with seasonal menus, and the community focuses on keeping residents connected, safe, and comfortable, adjusting support as people's needs change so they can age in place. The building has wheelchair access throughout and common spaces designed for easy gathering, and Benchmark Senior Living at Hamden offers different options for living, support, and caring for seniors at various stages, with features that balance private time and social time.
