About Just Like Home's Long Hill Home

Just Like Home's Long Hill Home sits on an acre of landscaped land in a quiet Shelton, Connecticut neighborhood, where six or seven seniors with memory care needs live together in a true ranch-style house, and the whole place is built on a single level so there aren't any stairs to worry about, which helps a lot for those who have trouble with mobility. The home isn't big and crowded like some places, since there are only private, furnished bedrooms-each with its own bathroom, roll-in shower, flat screen TV, and access to all the good cable channels, so every resident can have some privacy and decorate their own space with personal things, which makes the whole thing feel cozier and more like home. The large backyard deck, the sunroom, and the garden all give residents the chance to sit outside, watch birds, and get some fresh air, and sometimes people like to help out with the gardening, set the table, or fold laundry if that's what they like, because this place encourages everyone to join in simple daily routines if they wish.

There's a bright living room, a sunny den with comfy recliners for conversation, a computer room for staying connected, and reliable Wi-Fi throughout the home. The whole building is gated with a security system, controlled access, and strong emergency procedures, which keeps everyone safe and secure, especially if someone might wander due to memory issues, and the caregivers always know where everybody is because they only look after a few folks at a time. Two round-the-clock caregivers (always trained in memory care) and hands-on staff, including the owner and the house manager, are always there-so the caregivers can really get to know each resident, and the staff-to-resident ratio stays at about one caregiver to every three residents, which is hard to find. The staff can help with bathing, dressing, grooming, medicine, meals, incontinence needs, and getting ready for special diet plans if needed, and they're trained in nutrition and safety just for folks living with memory problems. Medical care comes on-site from a local geriatric group if families want that, and all the medication administration is certified and careful.

All meals are included-there's communal dining, but you can have guest meals too, snacks and drinks are always around, and the kitchen accommodates special diets. The staff even lets families weigh in on what their loved ones eat and what they like to do during the day, and there are extra activities like yoga, dance, stretching, chair fitness, plus scheduled religious services if wanted. They offer salon services, scheduled transportation, laundry, linen service, and housekeeping, and small pets are allowed, which some folks enjoy. People also get to use the entertainment room, the cable TV in common rooms or their own bedrooms, and the cheerful gatherings in the den or out on the deck.

Long Hill Home gives room to folks needing respite care for a short stay and helps families who have to find a place for a loved one on short notice, like when selling a house or taking a planned break. Every resident gets a fully furnished room with all linens provided-just clothes and toiletries are needed-and there aren't any surprise fees since memory care services come at one all-inclusive rate, though this home only takes private pay, long-term care insurance, and Veterans Aid, not Medicaid. The house is fully licensed by Connecticut as a Residential Memory Care Home, and they offer both assisted living and memory care on a small scale-so the setting stays personal, familiar, and usually quiet without noisy TVs or people wandering in and out of rooms. Residents can join daily routines, enjoy the sunroom or deck, and spend time in common areas, and everyone knows everyone, which the staff say helps residents feel noticed and secure. This home offers a simpler, peaceful choice for folks who want a small, family-like setting while receiving the help and watchfulness they need.
