    Highly recommend Barrington Terrace overall

I toured Barrington Terrace and moved my mom in - I'm extremely pleased. The staff are warm, kind and highly skilled (Leah, Pat and Shacil stood out), leadership is attentive, nursing and therapy are excellent, meals and activities keep residents engaged, and the community feels safe and well maintained. The move-in was smooth and communication was great; a few rooms are small and housekeeping can be uneven, but overall I highly recommend Barrington Terrace.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Barrington Terrace are overwhelmingly positive, with a dominant theme that the staff — from executive leadership through nursing, therapy, dining, housekeeping, and activities — are compassionate, hands-on, and treat residents like family. Many reviewers emphasise exceptional one-on-one care, clear communication with families, and a warm, home-like atmosphere. Multiple long-form comments praise individual employees and departments by name (sales and transition staff, activities directors, therapy and nursing leaders), and rehabilitation outcomes are repeatedly described as excellent. The overall rating implied by the reviews is high, with the facility lauded as a top pick for rehab, assisted living, and memory care by many families and healthcare professionals.

Care quality and staff: The most consistent positive across reviews is the quality and warmth of the staff. Nursing, CNAs, and medication administration receive numerous compliments for attentiveness and competence; therapy teams (PT/OT) are singled out for producing measurable improvements and speedy recoveries. Reviewers repeatedly describe staff as caring, patient, thorough, and accessible; many report that staff call families proactively and provide frequent updates. Leadership and specific staff members are praised for going above and beyond and for facilitating smooth transitions and strong family communication. That said, there are recurring concerns about staffing in memory care and occasional lapses in attentiveness — some reviewers mention aides being on their phones, slow responses to medical requests, or a need for more caregivers in the memory unit. A few reviewers explicitly flagged underpaid/overworked staff and called for closer attention to staffing ratios.

Rehab, therapy, and clinical outcomes: Rehabilitation services are a standout strength in the reviews. Multiple families describe short lengths of stay with clear functional gains, excellent therapist skill, and coordinated care that allows residents to return home or improve mobility. Skilled nursing and medical leadership are also seen favorably, and the presence of a continuum of care (assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing/rehab) is valued by families who want a single-site solution. There are isolated reports of slow nursing communication or clinical response, so while the majority of comments are positive about clinical care, families of non-communicative residents should monitor response times and supervision closely.

Activities, social life, and engagement: The activities program receives heavy praise — reviewers describe a busy, varied calendar with bingo, live music multiple times per week, themed parties, outings, crafting, games, and religious services. Activity staff are described as creative and effective at encouraging participation and cognitive engagement; several reviewers credit improved mood and independence to the program. Some specifics: live music 2–3 times weekly, frequent parties, therapy-supported engagement, and regular outings (though a subset of reviewers said promised outings were not consistently delivered). A few commenters noted that certain activities (e.g., bingo) can be overly frequent or not aligned with every resident's interests.

Dining and food service: Dining is generally a strength. Many reviews praise restaurant-like dining rooms, attentive servers, and appetizing home-style meals; chefs who accommodate dietary needs were appreciated. A minority of reviews describe variable or declining food quality at times, and families following specialized diets (e.g., strict gluten-free) reported challenges. Overall, dining is viewed as a positive contributor to residents’ quality of life, with some variability across time or shifts.

Facilities, cleanliness, and grounds: The facility, grounds, and decor receive many positive remarks: well-maintained grounds, fountain and courtyard areas, bright and airy common spaces, and beautiful furnishings and artwork. Housekeeping and maintenance generally receive high marks for responsiveness and quality. However, there is a non-trivial number of comments about inconsistent cleanliness — occasional lapses in room/bathroom cleanliness, carpet or hallway odors (urine smell reported in some areas), worn furniture, and dated or cramped rooms (especially double rooms and small studios). Several reviewers expressed disappointment with room size or feel, and a few described a depressing or dingy atmosphere in certain units. Maintenance staff are praised separately for responsiveness and even tech-savviness when fixing or improving rooms.

Memory care and safety: Memory care reviews are mixed and deserve careful attention. Some families report exemplary, dignified dementia care with engaged activity programming and strong top-down leadership; others specifically mention insufficient caregiver ratios, limited memory-care activities (movies and basic crafts), fewer promised outings, and concerns about supervision (e.g., residents wandering unsupervised). Safety systems and hygiene practices are also praised in some memory-care reports, but the conflicting accounts indicate variability in experience — some units or shifts appear stronger than others. Families seeking memory care should ask targeted questions about staffing ratios, supervision protocols, and sample activity schedules.

Management, sales, and communication: Communication and sales/transition support are recurring strengths: many reviewers highlight seamless move-ins, patient and informative sales staff, and ongoing follow-up. Names like Leah and other specific staff are repeatedly called out for making transitions stress-free. Conversely, a minority of reviewers reported high-pressure sales tactics or aggressive “must sign today” approaches, and a few described unfriendly or dismissive front-desk interactions. Overall, management visibility and hands-on leadership are seen as positives, but prospective families should be prepared to evaluate the tone and transparency of the sales process themselves.

Patterns of extremes and reliability: While the vast majority of remarks are positive, there are polarized extremes in the dataset: many glowing five-star testimonies versus a smaller set of very negative accounts alleging poor care, filthy conditions, or serious staffing problems. These outlier negative reports appear less common but are significant enough to warrant careful touring and asking specific operational questions during visits. Several negative themes are associated with understaffing, housekeeping lapses, or particular shifts/units rather than consistent, facility-wide problems.

Value and recommendations: Many reviewers consider Barrington Terrace a good value, especially given the strong clinical and activities programs and the continuum of care. The small-community, family-like atmosphere, attentive staff, and strong rehab outcomes are frequent reasons for recommendation. Recommended due diligence for prospective residents and families based on the reviews: conduct multiple visits at different times and shifts, meet nursing and memory care staff, verify staffing ratios in memory care, inspect specific room options for size and condition, ask for recent housekeeping and renovation schedules, clarify what activities and outings are routinely provided, and evaluate the sales process for pressure tactics.

Conclusion: In sum, Barrington Terrace’s reviews paint a picture of a warm, well-run community with outstanding staff, particularly in nursing and therapy, an active and engaging activities program, appealing grounds and dining, and strong family communication. The most important cautionary points are variability in memory care staffing/supervision, occasional cleanliness lapses, and reports of small rooms and occasional sales or front-desk issues. For many families seeking compassionate care, strong rehab services, and a lively social environment, the overall feedback indicates Barrington Terrace is highly recommended — but prospective families should verify specific operational details important to their loved one’s needs before committing.

The memory care program is built for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, with features like special activities to help cut down on confusion or keep folks comfortable, and volunteers often come around to run programs, clubs, and trips, which keeps everyone connected. Barrington Terrace offers home care services if someone needs non-medical help or companionship while staying in their own space, and for folks who want to stay active, there are community gardens, group trips, clubs, a movie theater with movie nights, and even a pet therapy program-plus they let you bring your pets, in case you want extra company.

There's also beauty shops, barbers, a concierge, housekeepers to keep things tidy, and lots of little spots to relax like a residents lounge or outdoor spaces by the pond. Barrington Terrace does have a state license (number 8186), and you'll find the staff know what they're doing, with different care levels, so whether you want independent living with few worries or need memory or nursing care, you don't have to move far as needs grow, and all the social activities, meals, and support are meant to help folks grow, connect, and simply keep living life each day as best they can.
