    Warm staff clean but dated

My mom lived here for two years and overall I'm pleased. The staff are warm, caring and attentive, the place is very clean and home-like with good activities and 24/7 medical support - we had real peace of mind. The building is old (stained carpets, antiseptic smell, a few dead roaches) and parking/view is marred by nearby construction; staffing turnover and some inexperienced caregivers have been issues. New management and planned renovations are promising, but pricing is high for the current condition - I'd recommend it depending on needs and budget.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is broadly positive about the people and the day-to-day experience at Cloudberry Lodge, while raising clear caveats about the physical condition of the building, some operational inconsistencies, and cost. The dominant, repeated theme is that staff—from nurses to aides and front-desk personnel—are caring, attentive, and treat residents like family. Multiple reviewers praised nursing oversight (including a named lead nurse who ensured medications and appointments), 24/7 medical availability, and staff responsiveness that provides family members with peace of mind. Social life and activities are a strong point: residents enjoy frequent programming, outings (for example trips to Walmart), bingo, and community-building events that foster friendships and engagement. Long-term residents and families frequently report high satisfaction and say their loved ones are happy and reluctant to leave.

Care quality is generally described as good to excellent by many reviewers: attentive medication administration, helpful and courteous staff, and a home-like atmosphere are repeatedly mentioned. Several reviews emphasize staff competence and dedication, with anecdotes about staff listening to families, tailoring care to resident needs, and creating a welcoming environment. There are multiple accounts of facility leadership being responsive and available; new management and planned renovations were mentioned positively by several reviewers who said they were excited for the future and impressed by the management’s experience. These leadership and staffing strengths are central to the facility's perceived value.

That said, there are significant and recurring concerns about the facility itself and some operational inconsistencies. The building is described by several reviewers as older and somewhat rundown; specific complaints include antiseptic odors, stained carpeting, and sightings of dead roaches. Some reviewers pointed to exterior issues such as a parking lot and views of construction rubble. Cleanliness reports are inconsistent—while many reviewers call the facility clean, neat, and immaculately kept, others report areas that need attention. These mixed reports suggest variability by area or by time of visit and point to the need for prospective residents and families to inspect the physical environment carefully.

Staffing consistency is another mixed area. Although many reviewers praise the staff, others report high turnover, inconsistent caregiver presence, and instances of inexperienced or unqualified aides. A few reviews used strong language to describe poor shifts, referencing laziness or incompetence; these negative reports contrast with other comments describing hardworking, compassionate teams. This pattern indicates that quality may vary by shift or unit and that staffing stability is an issue worth discussing with management during a tour.

Dining and ancillary services received mixed feedback. Breakfast was rated higher (for example, a four-star mention), while other meals were described as only average in some reviews. There was at least one specific operational complaint about pharmacy ordering—staff not using a resident’s preferred pharmacy—which can be important for families who want control over prescriptions. Cost and affordability are common concerns: several reviewers said the facility is expensive and not much cheaper than nicer alternatives, creating challenges for residents on limited incomes. Finally, the facility's recent sale and new ownership introduce some uncertainty; while some reviewers reported optimism about new management and renovation plans, others expressed concern about unknown future changes.

In summary, Cloudberry Lodge appears to deliver strong person-centered care, robust activity programming, and a warm community for many residents—especially those who value a home-like atmosphere and staff who build close relationships. However, prospective residents and families should weigh that against the older physical plant, isolated reports of cleanliness and pest issues, occasional gaps in staff consistency and qualifications, meal variability, pharmacy handling, and pricing concerns. Recommended next steps for an interested family would be to tour multiple times (including meal time and evening shifts), ask about pest control and recent renovation plans, request staffing patterns and turnover statistics, confirm pharmacy policies, and get a clear written fee schedule to evaluate affordability relative to comparable local options.
