    Small homey community, caring staff

I'm very pleased with this small, homey community of about 10 residents - the daytime staff and CNAs give truly personal, high-quality care and everyone is genuinely kind. Residents have private bathrooms, beautiful grounds, weekly paid meals and outings, plus card games, bingo, puzzles and gardens; it's Covid-free, reasonably priced, and I love these people.

    Summary of reviews

Higher Ground Assisted Living is a small, home-style facility that emphasizes a personal, community-oriented model of care. The site houses roughly ten residents and features private en-suite bathrooms and well-kept outdoor spaces. Review language indicates residents are generally content and the environment is described as comfortable rather than upscale. Affordability and a close-knit culture are recurring strengths.

Care quality appears focused on hands-on assistance from CNA-level staff who provide attentive, personalized support. Families and observers highlight individualized attention and strong caregiver–resident relationships. The facility does not maintain on-site licensed nursing, which limits its clinical capabilities; this makes it more suitable for residents with lower medical and nursing needs rather than those requiring skilled-nurse oversight or complex medical management.

Dining and social programming are modest but consistent. Review summaries reference weekly outings and meal events, alongside regular social activities such as card games, bingo, and puzzle areas. These offerings contribute to a socially active atmosphere, although the range and complexity of activities are more limited than what larger, full-service assisted living communities typically provide. Some outings and meal events are described as paid activities.

Facility and management characteristics reflect the small scale: the interior is described as homey rather than luxurious, and the grounds are an appreciated feature. Management and staff presence appear hands-on, and the small population supports close supervision and familiar relationships. At the same time, that small scale produces operational trade-offs—notably, minimal staffing levels, limited shift coverage, and reliance on a few caregivers to sustain activities and services.

In summary, Higher Ground will likely suit prospective residents and families seeking an affordable, intimate assisted-living option with strong caregiver relationships and a homelike setting. It is less appropriate for individuals who require on-site licensed nursing, broad clinical services, or the extensive amenities and programming of larger facilities. Prospective families should weigh the benefits of personalized attention and a small community against the limitations in clinical capacity and staffing coverage.

    About Higher Ground Assisted Living

Higher Ground Assisted Living sits at 10155 SE 110th Street Road in Candler, Florida, about three miles from Silver Springs Shores, and it's licensed by the state with Number 10505, which means it's gone through all the state requirements for caring for seniors. This community has room for up to ten residents in a mix of studio and one-bedroom options, and folks can choose between private or shared spaces, all furnished, with care focused on different needs like assisted living, memory care, independent living, nursing care, and short-term respite stays. The trained caregivers stay on site at all times and help with daily needs like getting dressed, bathing, eating, moving around, and taking medicine, including having licensed nurses give and track medications and monthly checks by a doctor, which is comforting to know for people who may have health changes. The facility welcomes small pets and includes safety features like grab bars and non-slip floors, plus an emergency alert system and 24-hour security, which make a person feel safer if moving around has become tough.

The community has housekeeping, laundry, and apartment repairs covered, which can be a relief for seniors who don't want to worry about chores, and the meals come three times a day with options for those with special diets like diabetes or high blood pressure, along with on-site meal prep, an all-day dining room, and even a catering service for special events, so families can still have a good visit. Higher Ground has common areas such as a communal kitchen, library, TV spaces, a computer center, and a chapel, and there are extras like an arts and crafts studio, a movie theatre, beauty and barber shop, a greenhouse, outdoor patios, and walking paths, which add up to quite a bit to do if a resident wants to get out and socialize or just relax. They do art, music, and exercise activities, bring in pet and music therapy, and invite families to planned gatherings and entertainment for holidays or birthdays, and they've got board games, reading rooms, fitness spaces, and movie nights, which folks seem to like.

Transportation is handled for medical appointments, errands, shopping, or religious services, so even if someone has stopped driving, it's still possible to stay active. There's a focus on individual care with each resident having a custom service plan, which might be important for people who need different levels of help, especially since staff are trained to help with dementia and Alzheimer's, and they've set up care for both mobile and non-ambulatory residents. Maintenance covers apartment fixtures and appliances if something acts up, and there's on-site parking for those who still drive. The facility also offers help with relocation, and there's hospice support if someone's needs become more serious. Residents can participate in daily wellness, workout programs, creative activities, and social events, with the chance to join in music and art programs, or find quiet spots in the library or gardens if that's preferred.

The buildings look cozy and comfortable with enough communal space to get together, and private rooms for people who want quiet. Caregivers and medical staff are always there for anything that comes up, whether it's a simple request or a health concern. Higher Ground Assisted Living accepts people for both long-term, short-term, and respite care and tends to cost less than most nursing home settings, which might matter for families on a budget, and they always keep AHCA inspection reports and emergency planning ready as Florida requires. The state lists Higher Ground as a Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity Provider, and there's a consumer guide and legal record with facility details and citations, which families can read if they want to check things themselves. The place has an average rating of 1 out of 10 from publicly available sources, which is worth considering along with everything else.
