    Small homey place, excellent care

I live here and it's a small, homey 10-resident place with private bathrooms and beautiful grounds. The CNAs and caregivers are awesome - very personal attention, friendly staff, and residents are content and happy (no nurse on site but excellent care). We have weekly paid meals and outings, card games, Bingo, puzzles and gardens; it's not fancy but high-quality, reasonably priced, COVID-free - I love these people.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive, emphasizing a small, home-like assisted living environment that provides personalized, attentive care at a lower cost than larger, more upscale facilities. Reviewers repeatedly stress the intimate scale — roughly 10 residents — as a defining feature that enables close relationships between staff and residents, frequent personal attention, and a community feel. Caregivers (CNAs) receive particular praise for being "awesome," attentive, and delivering high-quality service. Several comments note that residents are content and happy, and one review explicitly contrasts this facility favorably against larger, more expensive options.

Facility and grounds are described as attractive and comfortable rather than luxurious. Positive mentions include private bathrooms for residents, a homey interior atmosphere, and pleasant outdoor spaces and gardens for residents to enjoy. The facility is portrayed as clean and well cared for; reviews even highlight a COVID-free status, which some reviewers treated as an important indicator of good management and infection-control practices.

Activities and social life appear modest but meaningful. On-site recreational offerings cited in the reviews include card games, Bingo, puzzle areas, and gardening — consistent with the small-home model where social interaction is emphasized over elaborate programming. There are weekly meals and organized outings, though reviewers indicate those outings/meals may be paid events rather than included in base cost. The emphasis in reviews is on regular, personalized engagement rather than a vast calendar of specialized programs.

Staffing and clinical coverage are recurrent themes with mixed implications. The caregiving staff (primarily CNAs) are universally praised for warmth and personal attention; reviewers repeatedly describe staff as "nice," dedicated, and providing very personal care. At the same time, multiple summaries note the absence of a nurse on-site and reference limited staff numbers (one summary mentions "2 day staff"), which suggests more constrained clinical resources than one would find at larger assisted living or memory-care campuses. Reviewers appreciate the high-touch hands-on care for typical assisted living needs but the reviews also implicitly flag that the facility may not be appropriate for residents who require higher medical oversight or frequent skilled nursing interventions.

Value and suitability: reviewers consistently describe the facility as reasonably priced and a good value because of the combination of personalized care, pleasant environment, and lower cost relative to larger competitors. The trade-offs are clear in the reviews: this is not a luxury community and offerings are limited, but the small size enables individualized attention and a strong sense of community that many families and residents prefer. Notable patterns include high satisfaction with caregivers and daily life, appreciation for private rooms/bathrooms and outdoor spaces, and a pragmatic acceptance of fewer amenities and limited clinical staffing. Potential residents and families should weigh those trade-offs: the facility is well suited for residents who prioritize a home-like setting and personal attention over extensive medical services or resort-style amenities, but it may not meet the needs of those requiring on-site nursing care or more robust staffing 24/7.

    About Higher Ground Assisted Living

Higher Ground Assisted Living sits at 10155 SE 110th Street Road in Candler, Florida, about three miles from Silver Springs Shores, and it's licensed by the state with Number 10505, which means it's gone through all the state requirements for caring for seniors. This community has room for up to ten residents in a mix of studio and one-bedroom options, and folks can choose between private or shared spaces, all furnished, with care focused on different needs like assisted living, memory care, independent living, nursing care, and short-term respite stays. The trained caregivers stay on site at all times and help with daily needs like getting dressed, bathing, eating, moving around, and taking medicine, including having licensed nurses give and track medications and monthly checks by a doctor, which is comforting to know for people who may have health changes. The facility welcomes small pets and includes safety features like grab bars and non-slip floors, plus an emergency alert system and 24-hour security, which make a person feel safer if moving around has become tough.

The community has housekeeping, laundry, and apartment repairs covered, which can be a relief for seniors who don't want to worry about chores, and the meals come three times a day with options for those with special diets like diabetes or high blood pressure, along with on-site meal prep, an all-day dining room, and even a catering service for special events, so families can still have a good visit. Higher Ground has common areas such as a communal kitchen, library, TV spaces, a computer center, and a chapel, and there are extras like an arts and crafts studio, a movie theatre, beauty and barber shop, a greenhouse, outdoor patios, and walking paths, which add up to quite a bit to do if a resident wants to get out and socialize or just relax. They do art, music, and exercise activities, bring in pet and music therapy, and invite families to planned gatherings and entertainment for holidays or birthdays, and they've got board games, reading rooms, fitness spaces, and movie nights, which folks seem to like.

Transportation is handled for medical appointments, errands, shopping, or religious services, so even if someone has stopped driving, it's still possible to stay active. There's a focus on individual care with each resident having a custom service plan, which might be important for people who need different levels of help, especially since staff are trained to help with dementia and Alzheimer's, and they've set up care for both mobile and non-ambulatory residents. Maintenance covers apartment fixtures and appliances if something acts up, and there's on-site parking for those who still drive. The facility also offers help with relocation, and there's hospice support if someone's needs become more serious. Residents can participate in daily wellness, workout programs, creative activities, and social events, with the chance to join in music and art programs, or find quiet spots in the library or gardens if that's preferred.

The buildings look cozy and comfortable with enough communal space to get together, and private rooms for people who want quiet. Caregivers and medical staff are always there for anything that comes up, whether it's a simple request or a health concern. Higher Ground Assisted Living accepts people for both long-term, short-term, and respite care and tends to cost less than most nursing home settings, which might matter for families on a budget, and they always keep AHCA inspection reports and emergency planning ready as Florida requires. The state lists Higher Ground as a Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity Provider, and there's a consumer guide and legal record with facility details and citations, which families can read if they want to check things themselves. The place has an average rating of 1 out of 10 from publicly available sources, which is worth considering along with everything else.
