    Warm caring family-owned residential home

I placed my dad in this small, family-owned home (since 1965) and I'm grateful - the experienced, caring staff keep him alive, well and genuinely happy in a beautifully decorated private room with an upscale B&B, homelike feel. Homemade meals at the main table, flexible visiting until 8 pm, a backyard pond and little touches like nail painting create peaceful social living; it's clean and great for long-term stays. One caveat: phone communication can be poor and I've dealt with an occasional rude staffer, but overall the warmth and attentive care beat what we had at home.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the review summaries for Swankridge Care Center is predominantly positive, with reviewers repeatedly emphasizing a strong, personalized, homelike atmosphere and attentive caregiving. Many comments highlight that the facility feels more like an upscale bed-and-breakfast than a typical institutional setting. The small number of residents, family ownership since 1965, and well-decorated private rooms contribute to an impression of continuity, warmth, and individualized attention. Multiple reviewers specifically stated that their family members were better cared for at Swankridge than at home and described residents as happy and alive and well, indicating good daily care and monitoring.

Care quality and staff: The most consistent praise is for the staff — described as caring, attentive, and experienced. Several reviewers expressed gratitude to staff members, reporting that caregivers provided strong hands-on support and made family members feel comfortable. This pattern suggests a reliable caregiver-to-resident relationship and a team that prioritizes resident well-being. However, there are a small number of concerning reports about staff interactions: at least one review mentions rude behavior and a staff member hanging up the phone, and another notes poor phone communication. These negative comments indicate some inconsistency in staff communication or professionalism that prospective families should probe further during inquiries.

Facilities and environment: Reviewers frequently note that Swankridge is clean and peaceful, with an upscale, cozy aesthetic that differs from a standard institutional setting. The small scale of the home is repeatedly remarked on as a positive — it appears to enable a quieter, more personal environment. Amenities mentioned include a backyard pond and nicely decorated rooms that reinforce the homelike, restful atmosphere. Private rooms and a main dining table contribute to both dignity and social interaction among residents.

Dining and social life: Homemade meals and nicely prepared food are commonly praised, with dining at a main table providing daily socialization. This setup supports a family-style routine and helps residents interact with each other rather than eating in isolation. Reviewers also mention occasional grooming or leisure activities such as nail painting, which adds to the sense of personal attention. The most frequent critique in this domain is the limited breadth of activities overall — while social dining and some grooming services are available, reviewers point out that activity programming appears minimal, which could be a downside for families seeking a more active or structured recreational schedule.

Visitation and length of stay: Flexible visiting hours (noted as open until 8 pm) are cited positively and suggest a family-friendly policy that supports regular contact. Several reviews reflect long-term placements and satisfaction with extended stays, indicating that the facility can be a stable option for residents needing longer-term care.

Patterns and recommendations: The dominant patterns are high marks for personalized care, cleanliness, pleasant décor, and food, alongside a small, family-run environment that many find preferable to larger facilities. The primary concerns are limited activities and occasional problems with staff communication or professionalism. For families considering Swankridge, these reviews suggest it is an excellent option if you value a small, homelike setting with attentive caregivers and good food. Prospective residents and families should, however, ask direct questions about daily activity schedules, staff turnover and training, and communication protocols (phone responsiveness and escalation) to confirm that those occasional negative reports are isolated incidents rather than systemic issues.

    About Swankridge Care Center

Swankridge Care Center has been looking after seniors in Homestead, Florida since 1965, ever since SallyAnn Swank started the place as a family-owned community, and over the years they've kept a single-story home that feels safe and welcoming, plus they have private and shared rooms, even private suites if that's what someone needs, and every room lets folks keep their own space and comfort. They provide assisted living and adult day care services, aiming to help people keep their independence as long as possible, while still getting help with daily needs like bathing, dressing, and meals, because sometimes people have conditions like arthritis or diabetes or maybe they're dealing with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, which the staff know how to handle, since they have nurses, CNAs, and qualified medication aides on duty all day and night, seven days a week. Swankridge takes care of things around the house, like laundry and cleaning, and provides easy access to healthcare supplies and medical equipment, so no one's left without what they need, and for meals, they've got dining services, even offering something called gourmet dining options through the White Lion Café, which the residents appreciate since everyone likes a good meal after a long day. There's lots of activities to keep people engaged, including social outings, therapeutic and recreational programs, plus transportation if someone needs to get to an appointment or wants to join in on an event, and pets are welcome too, which makes the place feel more like home and less like an institution. People can stay for short-term respite care or as long-term residents, and the facility helps individuals who need help with regular activities, especially those with conditions like Parkinson's disease or heart problems or those who've had a stroke and need extra rehabilitation, since their rehab care model is known pretty well in the country. Family caregivers can also get guidance on long-term care or insurance questions, and the staff do their best to maintain each resident's dignity and quality of life, taking care of everyone's mental, physical, and emotional health through all the programs they run. The facility is licensed, with state license number 5184, and people pay through insurance, Medicare, or private pay, with an entry fee cost of $500. Whether someone needs a little help or more hands-on medical attention, Swankridge Care Center provides a good, supervised home-like environment where seniors can keep up their lifestyle, get expert care, attend social events, and know they're safe and supported every day.
