    Mixed care, inconsistent and unsafe

I had a mixed, worrying experience. New ownership and management seemed responsive, therapy and some nurses were excellent, the place can be clean and homey with good activities - but staff quality is wildly inconsistent: some caregivers go the extra mile while others are rude, inattentive, and understaffed. I also experienced/learned of serious safety and communication failures - long call waits, abrupt/denied discharges, untreated wounds/bedsores, falls left unreported, stolen items and episodes that led to hospital transfers - so I'd be very cautious about entrusting a loved one here without close oversight.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the collected reviews for Harborview Health Center Kissimmee is strongly polarized. A number of reviewers report compassionate, competent care from specific nurses, therapists, receptionists, and a new management team, describing successful rehabilitation outcomes, good medical oversight, clean rooms, a home-like atmosphere, pleasant food, and meaningful activities. At the same time, a substantial and recurring set of complaints alleges serious neglect, safety incidents, poor hygiene, inconsistent staffing, and unacceptable behavior by other employees. The result is a mix of strongly positive experiences and deeply concerning negative accounts, often tied to who is on duty and whether new leadership and staffing changes are in place.

Care quality and clinical outcomes are a major dividing line in the reviews. Positive comments highlight timely therapy, nurses who help patients regain independence (for example, re-learning to feed oneself), and instances of top-notch medical attention leading to discharge improvements. Conversely, many reviewers allege severe lapses in clinical care: delayed responses to call buttons (sometimes described as 45+ minute waits), residents left in soiled linens, unaddressed wounds or bedsores, dehydration, pneumonia, failed rehabilitation, and ambulance/hospital transfers. Several reviewers claim that neglect contributed to hospitalization or worse. The reviews consistently frame these as allegations and personal experiences rather than verified facts, but their frequency and severity make this a critical theme.

Staff behavior and communication appear highly inconsistent. Numerous reviews praise individual caregivers, therapists, and receptionists for being attentive, friendly, and communicative, even noting that front-desk staff provide exceptional service. However, other reviewers report rude or inattentive nurses, employees using cell phones while working, staff watching movies at the front desk, and supervisors being evasive when incidents occur. Reports of staff eating residents' snacks, theft of personal items, and belongings being stored in insecure places further erode trust for many families. Several reviewers explicitly cite understaffing and call-outs as drivers of poor performance and long response times.

Facility condition and amenities are described as adequate but dated. Positive reviewers note a homey environment, an outdoor patio where residents enjoy games, and rooms that are kept reasonably clean. Negative comments focus on smells, areas being dirty, and the overall facility feeling worn and lacking luxury. Some reviewers say renovations and a refreshed management approach have begun addressing these issues, indicating a possible improvement trend over time.

Dining and activities receive mostly favorable mentions in the positive reviews: food is described as "pretty good," activities are available, and residents appear engaged in games and social events. Yet, logistical problems around feeding and nutrition are raised in negative reports—specifically, residents not being fed properly, denied nutrition leading to dehydration, or personal snacks being taken by staff. This suggests variability in mealtime care and monitoring.

Management and leadership emerge as a key factor affecting experiences. Several reviewers explicitly credit a new ownership or management team with positive changes: more responsive leadership, renovations, improved therapy, and staff who "go above and beyond." Conversely, other reviews identify an evasive nursing supervisor, poor incident handling, and staff discipline issues that have not been addressed—leading some families to consider legal action or to warn others not to use the facility. The coexistence of these narratives suggests that improvements may be underway but are not yet uniformly experienced by all residents and families.

Notable patterns and risks: (1) High variability — outcomes appear highly dependent on which shift or staff members are present. (2) Recurrent safety allegations — falls, delayed responses, wound care failures, and possible dehydration/infection have been reported repeatedly. (3) Property- and dignity-related complaints — theft, unsecured belongings, and staff consuming residents' items appear in multiple reviews. (4) Signs of recent improvement — several reviewers mention new management, renovations, and better responsiveness, which may indicate an upward trend but not a complete resolution of prior problems.

Recommendation for readers: these reviews reflect strongly mixed experiences. If you are evaluating Harborview Health Center Kissimmee for yourself or a loved one, consider visiting in person multiple times (different days/shifts), ask for up-to-date staffing ratios and incident records, request references from current families, and confirm recent inspection or licensing history. Pay particular attention to how management handles past allegations and whether the cited improvements under new leadership are documented and sustained. The positive reviews indicate the facility can provide caring, effective care under certain conditions, but the frequency and severity of negative reports — especially those involving safety and neglect — warrant careful due diligence before making placement decisions.

    About Harborview Health Center Kissimmee

Harborview Health Center Kissimmee sits right near area hospitals and offers a full range of care for older adults, so folks can move in for independent living or get more help as their needs change over time, and you'll find everything from active adult living and assisted living to skilled nursing and memory care here, which is helpful for those who need support with daily activities, medication, meals, or personal care, and those with Alzheimer's or dementia have access to secure memory care with special programs and activities for memory support. The facility belongs to a larger network, including Solaris Healthcare Osceola and HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, so seniors get full medical support when they need it, and the connection to Consulate Health Care means they promote a culture where staff act as Ambassadors of Care, always keeping an eye on compassion. The campus is pretty big, holding up to 120 beds, and has both private and semi-private rooms-some with private bathrooms-which residents can decorate with their own things, and there's room for couples too. For folks looking to stay busy, there are planned events like excursions, arts and crafts, movies, group games, and even visits from performers or younger folks in intergenerational programs. Amenities include a rehab gym for those needing therapy, outdoor courtyards to get some Florida sunshine, a beauty and barber shop, family rooms, and a large screened patio, plus you've got community transportation, a fitness room, a garden, a small library, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a dining room that serves restaurant-style meals. Seniors who need help with bathing, dressing, moving around, dietary needs, or medicine management get help 24 hours a day, and there's always a nurse on duty, with doctors available as needed, which helps with wound care, post-surgery recovery, and therapy needs like physical, occupational, or speech therapy. If only short-term help is required, there's respite or subacute care, and there are home care services too, both Medicare-certified and non-medical, along with outpatient therapies. Adult Day Services and hospice care are available for those who need them, and families have resources and support when dealing with long-term care challenges. The rooms stay tidy thanks to housekeeping and laundry, and there's a 24-hour emergency call system for peace of mind, but like most places you hear some folks have mentioned concerns with cleanliness and staff being busy, though recent years have brought accreditations for quality and satisfaction. The staff aims for patient-centered care, making sure everyone gets individual attention, and the facility is known for its compassionate approach and comfortable, homey touches, having served the Kissimmee community for many years.
