    Immaculate golf community, relaxed lifestyle

I've loved living here - helpful, friendly staff and immaculate clubhouses with championship 36-hole golf, great greens, pools, movie theater, bowling alley, courts and endless activities. The gated 55+ community is beautiful and relaxing with lake/sunset views, golf-cart friendly paths, outdoor terraces and event-ready venues. Dining and service are generally excellent and reasonably priced, though a few entitled/rude residents, a slow gate guard and a near-miss with a golf cart are real negatives. Overall it's beyond my expectations and I'd recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for the staff, facilities, and breadth of activities. Reviewers consistently call out friendly, helpful, and attentive staff and waitstaff, and several note that staff performance exceeds expectations. The community is described as upscale, immaculate, and well maintained, with standout references to the clubhouse, pro shop, and grounds. Many reviewers emphasize the relaxing, active retirement lifestyle the community supports, often saying it is a wonderful or premier place to retire.

Golf and recreation are dominant strengths. Multiple reviews highlight two golf courses totaling 36 holes, championship-style greens that are well maintained, and a golf-cart–friendly environment. Amenities are extensive and varied: two clubhouses, a movie theater (one reviewer referenced seeing Racing in the Rain), bowling alley, indoor and outdoor pools, a health and fitness center, shuffleboard, pickleball, bocce, horseshoes, tennis courts, and a dog park. Reviewers also mention fishing spots, lake-view seating, an outdoor terrace by the pool, and numerous organized activities and trips. The sheer variety of offerings—sports, social clubs, regular entertainment, and event sponsorship—creates an active community where “there’s always something to do.” Several reviews also note the community’s suitability for special events and weddings.

Dining and on-site service receive generally favorable comments. Multiple mentions of two dining locations, friendly waitstaff, reasonable prices, ample portions, and availability of alcohol point to a positive dining experience overall. Lake-view seating and a cozy, classy atmosphere are highlighted, and reviewers call out specific offerings such as barbecue (though opinions on barbecue are mixed). The food and service are repeatedly described as good-to-excellent, contributing to the overall high satisfaction of residents and visitors.

Despite the overwhelmingly positive tone, there are notable and recurring concerns that prospective residents should consider. Several reviewers raised interpersonal and cultural issues among the resident population: descriptions of rude, snotty, arrogant, or entitled residents appear multiple times. Reviewers also mentioned deteriorating cognitive function in some residents, which can affect community dynamics and social comfort for neighbors. Safety is another concern: at least one near-miss involving a golf cart was reported, and reviewers noted bad driving by some residents. Gate and security issues were also flagged—some reviewers described slow or inefficient gate guards, and one comment questioned the necessity of the gate because of public street access. Additionally, practical limitations such as cart-path-only restrictions during rain were mentioned as occasional inconveniences.

A couple of somewhat contradictory themes appear around location and accessibility: some reviewers praise the central location and good accessibility, while others describe the community as “far off the beaten path.” This suggests perceptions of location depend on reviewers’ points of origin or priorities. Another minor but consistent caveat is that not all food options (for example, barbecue) suit everyone’s taste; this is not a major complaint but worth noting for those with strong culinary preferences.

In summary, Lake Ashton is portrayed as an active, amenity-rich retirement community with excellent staff, outstanding recreational and social offerings, and well-maintained grounds—especially notable for golfers. The major strengths are its breadth of activities, quality of facilities, and service orientation. The primary areas to investigate further in a visit or tour are resident culture and social dynamics, on-site safety practices (particularly around golf cart use and driving), and security/entry procedures. These are important because several reviewers, while otherwise positive, reported friction with other residents and specific safety or gate-related issues. For most reviewers the positives far outweigh the negatives; however, prospective residents should observe the community atmosphere in person and ask management about incident protocols, security staffing, and resident conduct policies to ensure the environment matches their expectations.

    About Lake Ashton

Lake Ashton sits in Cypress Gardens, Florida, with a spot that's got quick access to both Orlando and Tampa, and it's right across the cities of Lake Wales and Winter Haven, making it real easy for folks to get to shopping, medical clinics, and even local attractions-places like Legoland, Bok Tower Gardens, and the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes-but really, what strikes most people is how you'll find the community tucked behind a gated entrance for extra privacy and security, and there's a map feature to help visitors figure out where it's at, which helps when families want to schedule a tour or see how close it is to airports, both Orlando and Tampa being around an hour away, and it's also pretty handy for day trips to Disney parks or Winter Haven's downtown restaurants and art galleries. Lake Ashton happens to be a retirement community with homes for sale or rent, all in different price ranges, square footage, and layout, including newer model homes like Ashton, Sebastian, Callaway, Caribbean, Plantation, St Croix, St. Marks, and Weston in something they call the Green Islander Series, all with the kind of houses that got smart home features, Energy Star appliances, granite countertops, and even fungus-resistant shingles, and these homes come inspected by third parties and carry Certified Green Home labels and a ten-year warranty, which, for folks worried about upkeep and energy bills, might bring some peace of mind, and some homes even come with formal entryways, paver drives, or LED lighting, with options to customize thanks to their Design Center if you want something a little different.

The community itself has two big clubhouses, indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpool spas, pickleball courts, and 36-hole golf, plus a restaurant, a lounge, and even a bank, and there's on-site dining for residents who might not feel like cooking, which tends to make life a little easier, and you'll find activities, health and fitness programs, and a full range of services geared toward active adults 55 and over, whether you're after independent or assisted living, want some memory care, need short-term respite care, or even help at home, and there's staff, residents, and plenty of testimonials showing people's experience with the place, good and bad, and the rating sits at 4.6 from over 60 reviews, which tells you people have opinions but usually seem pretty happy to live there. Lake Ashton pays attention to things like builder's risk insurance, green building practices, underground utilities, and even termite protection, and there's a community calendar so residents can keep up with events or group activities, plus things like lush landscaping and automatic sprinklers around the houses, and for anyone with pets, there's ten vet clinics within five miles, along with nearby hospitals, grocery stores, or pharmacies-so everything you need isn't far out of reach. There's even some special touches like coach lamps, decorative mailboxes, and birch cabinetry, and homes often come delivered with stain-resistant carpet, green certification, and sometimes feature options for customization or upgrades, depending what people want, and while the place is often described in terms of elegance and value, the bottom line is, Lake Ashton is one of those communities where folks want a mix of comfort, amenities, and security without being too far from the sights and services of Central Florida.
