    Clean caring staff; inconsistent nursing.

I had a great first impression - bright, brand-new, very clean and homey with nicely sized rooms and a kitchenette, fridge and coffee maker. The staff were overwhelmingly kind, caring and responsive, leadership stayed involved, and the food/restaurant-style dining plus lots of activities and outings kept my loved one engaged. It felt safe and family-oriented, with good communication most of the time and respite/short-stay options available. That said, I saw inconsistent nursing/ADL support, some staffing shortages, communication lapses, and occasional cleanliness/odor and safety/value concerns (medication omission, missing items) - move-in was chaotic during COVID. Overall I'm pleased and would recommend it if you don't need a higher level of assisted or memory-care nursing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across these reviews is mixed, with a clear pattern of strong positives around the facility, dining and activities balanced against recurring and sometimes serious concerns about clinical care, nursing communication, and consistency of staffing and leadership. Many families praise the community as a clean, attractive, and well-appointed newer building with a warm, family-like culture. At the same time, a significant subset of reviews emphasize that Excellence Senior Living operates primarily as an independent living community and does not reliably deliver higher-level assisted living or memory care services that some residents require.

Care quality and medical oversight are among the most frequently raised concerns. Multiple reviewers said the community is focused on independent living rather than true assisted living; consequences reported include inadequate assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as incontinence care, shaving, bowel/bladder monitoring, and other hands-on supports. There are also several accounts of medication mistakes or omissions and reports that daily medical monitoring and timely health updates to families are inconsistent or absent. By contrast, on-site doctor visits were specifically called out as a positive feature by several families, suggesting some medical access exists but is unevenly applied. Memory care reviewers raised particularly serious issues — missed showers, clothing mix-ups, missing items, small meal portions and weight loss — indicating that the level of support and oversight in memory care may fall short for residents with higher needs.

Staffing and communication show a wide range of experiences. Many families singled out staff as extremely caring, responsive and kind — noting personable caregivers, administrative responsiveness, and direct leadership involvement (including Executive Director attention) that created peace of mind. Conversely, other reviews describe gruff or unprofessional staff behavior, shortages that left residents unattended or not brought to activities, and inconsistent or poor communication from nurses and the Director of Nursing. Move-in experiences were also mixed: some move-ins were smooth with helpful orientation and quick responses, while others involved long waits at admission, unhooked phones/TVs, or confusing arrival communication. These polarized reports suggest quality and consistency vary by staff shift, unit, or point in time (some reviewers note declines after COVID-related staffing/chef changes).

Facilities and amenities are generally a strength. The community is repeatedly described as attractive, modern, and well maintained — often new or recently built — with secure features (gated entrance, cameras), on-site barber/beauty shops, housekeeping and laundry, and comfortable apartment sizes for many residents. Activity offerings receive steady praise: exercise rooms, cookouts, musical entertainment, arts and crafts, book club, shopping outings and field trips are cited as keeping residents active and engaged. That said, there are intermittent operational issues: deliveries left in entryways creating navigation problems, localized odors (urine smell in halls reported by some), dusty rooms, and occasional lapses in housekeeping or supply replenishment (bathrooms lacking toilet paper). A few reviewers also noted that some apartments are small or have only a kitchenette, which may not meet expectations for residents who want to cook.

Dining receives many positive comments about restaurant-style meals and excellent food, though several families reported a decline in quality over time (particularly after staff/chef changes), cold meals or small meal portions in some units. Value and billing are another mixed area: some reviewers emphasize reasonable prices and good value, whereas others felt they paid for a mid-level level of care that was not provided, or encountered extra charges that affected perceived worth. A recurring theme is that the community may not be well suited to “aging in place” if residents’ needs escalate; several families reported transfers soon after move-in when needs exceeded what the community reliably provides.

In summary, Excellence Senior Living appears to offer many hallmarks of a desirable independent living community — modern and attractive facilities, engaging activities, on-site amenities like barber/beauty services, and many staff who are compassionate and attentive. However, prospective residents and families should be cautious if the need for regular nursing care, robust ADL support, or consistent memory-care oversight is anticipated. Key risks identified in reviews include inconsistent nursing communication, staffing variability, medication/clinical errors, and management inconsistency. Families considering this community should clarify upfront the exact level of medical and ADL support available (and documented in contract/billing), ask about staffing ratios and memory-care protocols, verify setup procedures at move-in, and request specific assurances about how the community handles medication management, incontinence care, and transitions to higher levels of care.
