    Clean, small, quiet, caring staff

I'm very happy with our choice - a clean, small, quiet place where residents feel at home and safe. The staff (nurses, aides, front desk, maintenance and the director) are caring, attentive and friendly; Karey runs excellent activities and events, and the meals are delicious. We had a billing hiccup that management fixed promptly, and overall I have peace of mind and highly recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive, with the majority of comments highlighting compassionate caregiving, excellent facility upkeep, and an active social environment. Many reviewers use words such as attentive, friendly, caring, and wonderful to describe nurses, aides, front desk employees, and the director. Maintenance staff receive repeated praise for going above and beyond, and multiple reviewers explicitly say residents are treated like family and feel at home. These recurring observations point to a culture focused on personalized attention and resident well-being.

Care quality and staffing emerge as core strengths. Reviewers frequently cite knowledgeable staff during intake and clear communication about health needs, suggesting good intake procedures and ongoing care coordination. Several notes specifically single out the nursing and aide staff as caring and loving, and families report peace of mind because residents are well taken care of. While most comments portray staff as energetic, welcoming, and professional, there are isolated but strong negative remarks describing extremely rude or unhelpful behavior and one reviewer calling the experience a 'nightmare.' These negative reports appear to be outliers compared with the weight of positive feedback, but they do indicate the possibility of inconsistent staff interactions or isolated incidents that prospective families should explore further.

Facilities, dining, and daily life receive consistently favorable mentions. The building is described as very clean and quiet, with a small setting that some reviewers appreciate for its calm atmosphere. Dining is repeatedly praised as delicious, and at least one review highlights a special family-style event (Christmas dinner) that contributed to a warm, family-like experience. Activities and social programming are also strong points; an activities planner named Karey is mentioned positively, and reviewers note many activities, entertainment, and social events that help residents thrive. Taken together, these points suggest a facility that balances quality physical care with social engagement and good food.

Management and problem resolution show a generally positive pattern with at least one concrete example of responsive correction: a billing problem was reported by a reviewer and subsequently corrected by management. Multiple reviews also call the director approachable and praise front desk responsiveness, indicating accessible leadership. However, the presence of a billing complaint and several contradictory reviews indicate that prospective residents and families should confirm administrative details during a tour and ask about how concerns are addressed and how often negative incidents occur.

In summary, the dominant themes are attentive, family-oriented care; a clean, safe, and quiet environment; strong maintenance and front-desk support; engaging activities and good food; and generally responsive management. The main concerns are isolated reports of rude or unhelpful staff and at least one administrative/billing issue. These concerns appear infrequent relative to the volume of praise, but they are notable and worth investigating during a visit. Overall, the reviews indicate Highland Lakes Assisted Living - A St. Mark Village Community is well-regarded by most reviewers for its staff, atmosphere, and programming, with a small number of negative experiences that suggest checking current staff consistency and administrative procedures when evaluating the community.

About Highland Lakes Assisted Living - A St. Mark Village Community

Highland Lakes Assisted Living - A St. Mark Village Community sits in Palm Harbor, Florida, and serves seniors looking for different levels of care, from independent living to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation, so people can move in at one stage and know they've got support if their needs change later on, which a lot of folks like because it means less worry down the road about moving again. The apartments come in different sizes like studios, single rooms, and even two-bedroom layouts, some with private lanais, kitchens, and nice living spaces, while rooms are wired for cable and the grounds are secured. Staff including nurses and nursing assistants are there 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help with daily tasks such as dressing, bathing, grooming, taking medicines, and even handling things like housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation, so residents don't have to stress about chores. Meals are chef-prepared and served three times daily in a pretty dining room that has a family feel, plus there's room service and community dining options to suit people's comfort. Residents get access to religious services including in-house worship and Spanish language support, making it welcoming for a wider range of backgrounds, and folks can use on-site physical therapist services, scheduled occupational therapist visits, and even hospice or skilled nursing if needed, all under one roof.

There are plenty of things to do because the staff sets up game nights, Wii bowling, music groups, yoga classes, exercise programs, and offsite outings, plus activities for physical, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual growth, so no one has to feel bored or alone if they don't want to. The community also puts effort into providing social spaces and comforts like a library, piano, fireplace, nice patios, walking paths, and a landscaped view with ponds and palm trees, so it always feels a bit like home, and there's even an on-site beauty salon and barber, making it easy to keep up with grooming. Residents and guests have access to parking, which makes visits simple, and there's concierge transportation for errands, appointments, or outings beyond the property if needed. The memory care unit, Highland Lakes Memory Care, serves those with Alzheimer's or similar needs in a secure environment with extra support, while all residents get the same careful and gentle help from trained staff who respect independence but are there when a hand is needed.

The building's design makes everyday life easier, with handrails, wide halls, and comfortable seats around open lobbies, and the whole place is kept clean and safe thanks to regular housekeeping, laundry for both linens and personal clothes, and plenty of lights both inside and out. Highland Lakes Assisted Living follows the state's licensing, and offers a worry-free, all-inclusive approach without hidden fees, so families know what to expect. Since it's part of St. Mark Village's larger continuing care retirement community, people get help, resources, and advice whether they're looking into moving soon or just starting to research, and the community supports everyone at different stages of senior living. People, when they join, tend to find both privacy in their own apartments and lots of chances to build friendships with neighbors and staff, which matters as much as anything else in this chapter of life.
