    Compassionate staff but safety concerns

I placed my mom here for 1.5 years and the staff-especially nurse/owner Marvia-were compassionate, patient, and went above and beyond (arranging pharmacy/doctor visits, 24-hour, home-like care); the house was clean and my mom was very happy. However, there were serious concerns: a drowning incident occurred, food was poor, there was little/no entertainment/TV, and cost-cutting seemed to cause health issues (gum infection). Friendly, dedicated staff make it feel like home, but weigh the safety, nutrition, and activities carefully.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is mixed but leans toward positive in terms of everyday caregiving and the home-like atmosphere. A majority of summaries emphasize a small, comfortable community where residents receive 24-hour attention from patient, friendly staff. Multiple reviewers explicitly praise the owner/nurse (named Marvia) for hands-on leadership, arranging pharmacy and doctor visits, providing compassionate and knowledgeable care, and fostering a supportive environment that helped residents feel at home. Several accounts describe long-term satisfaction (one mentions 1.5 years), improvements in a resident's comfort, clean premises, and no reported COVID cases — all indicators of consistent day-to-day operations and attentive caregiving.

Care quality and staff behavior are the most frequently cited positives. Reviews repeatedly highlight staff members who are sweet, go above and beyond, and make residents feel comfortable and cared-for. The arrangement of external medical support (pharmacy and doctor visits) is noted as an operational strength, and multiple commenters credit the staff and owner with being accessible, supportive to family members, and effective at providing individualized attention. These patterns point to a facility that, for many families, functions as a true residential home rather than an institutional setting.

Facility features and atmosphere are also commonly praised. Summaries describe the place as home-like, small, beautiful, and comfortable, with accommodations that contribute to a welcoming environment. Cleanliness is noted explicitly in at least one review, reinforcing the perception of a well-maintained household-style assisted living option. The warm, family-style atmosphere appears to be a core selling point appreciated by several reviewers and their relatives.

However, there are serious and specific negative allegations that contrast sharply with the primarily positive comments. One review asserts neglect culminating in a drowning incident and states the owner engaged in cheap cost-cutting practices; that same review also reports poor food, lack of entertainment/TV, and a gum infection experienced by a resident. The reviewer characterized the facility as a "terrible place" and indicated they moved their relative out as a result. These claims — particularly the mention of a drowning and infection — are severe safety and quality-of-care concerns. They stand out as significant outliers against the otherwise favorable accounts and should be treated as red flags requiring verification.

Management and leadership impressions are conflicted across reviews. Several families directly praise the owner (Marvia) and the nurse/owner's hands-on approach and competence. In contrast, the most negative review targets the same owner for alleged cost-cutting and neglect. This discrepancy suggests variation in individual experiences or differences in specific incidents and timelines. Because reviews reflect subjective experiences and potentially different time periods, the conflicting views on management highlight the importance of checking licensure, incident reports, health inspection results, and recent references when assessing current conditions.

In summary, the dominant themes are warm, personalized caregiving in a small, home-like setting with staff who often exceed expectations and an owner who is praised by multiple families. Counterbalancing this, there is at least one serious negative report alleging neglect, a drowning, inadequate food and activities, and health risks — allegations that substantially alter the risk profile if they are accurate. The overall pattern suggests many satisfied families and consistent, compassionate care for a number of residents, but the presence of severe negative claims means prospective families should seek further verification (recent inspections, staffing levels, incident logs, and first-hand tours) before deciding. The mixed nature of the reviews makes it essential to validate current operations and safety practices rather than relying solely on the aggregated impressions here.

About Violet Gardens Assisted Living Facility

Violet Gardens Assisted Living Facility sits on a single story in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and you walk in to find a friendly and joyful feeling where staff, residents, and visitors seem quick to smile or help out, and what you'll notice is the building is made to be easy to get around, even for those using wheelchairs, with security systems in place and rooms set up for comfort, whether you choose a private or semi-private option that comes fully furnished. The facility offers six licensed beds and keeps a small, family-like atmosphere, and though it's not the flashiest place you'll see, people say they feel respected and cared for here, which means a lot as the staff is always around 24 hours a day for help with bathing, dressing, medication, and all those everyday needs that can get tough as you get older. Meals get planned out by chefs and nutrition folks who want everyone to eat balanced food, and there's a dining room where folks gather for meals, some conversation, and, many times, a good laugh.

There's help with laundry, cleaning, and general household chores, so you don't have to worry about the day-to-day things, and the care team keeps close watch to make sure seniors live as independently as possible while getting the support they need. The place stays busy enough, because they run activities meant for the mind, body, and spirit, like movie nights, game nights, group trips to stores, exercise classes in a salt water pool, and sometimes even aqua-aerobic sessions for those who like to keep moving. For those who need it, Violet Gardens has a secured memory care unit for people with Alzheimer's or dementia; the area is set up to keep them safe from wandering and to help reduce confusion, plus the staff is trained in working with folks who have those needs and set up special programs called "reminiscence neighborhoods," which use familiar routines and therapies to make things feel more comfortable.

Skilled nursing care is available for people who need more attention, along with personal care, respite care for short-term stays, and even hospice services for end-of-life situations, all with a focus on dignity and respect for the person and their family, and there's a policy that encourages loved ones to visit as essential caregivers. Pricing is generally lower than what you'd see in a full-service nursing home, but you still get medical assistance from certified staff, plus coordinated care with outside doctors for folks who have tricky behavioral or cognitive challenges. When you put it all together, Violet Gardens offers independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, personal care, memory care, and stays for respite or hospice, all in a place designed for comfort, safety, and a little bit of joy in each day, and it helps give families peace of mind knowing their loved one's in good hands, getting care suited to whatever they're going through as they age.
