    Unsafe unsanitary care, untrustworthy staff

I had a mixed but mostly negative experience. There are pleasant patios, activities, and some caring, friendly housekeepers and staff who handled storms/evacuations well, but those positives are outweighed by safety and hygiene problems. I smelled urine, saw dirty shared bathrooms, missed showers for residents, horrible food, understaffed weekends, misfiled/missing medical documents and privacy concerns, and witnessed dangerous driving, stop-sign violations, loud music/littering, residents wandering and screaming in the lot. When I raised issues staff became defensive and things worsened - I don't trust their commitment to residents and cannot recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment about Egret Cove Center is sharply divided: multiple reviews describe strong, caring teams and effective emergency response, while an overlapping set of reviews documents serious care, safety, and management concerns. Positive reports emphasize a supportive, organized staff, good emergency preparedness (generators and evacuation support), clean spaces and patios, an engaging activities program, and a peaceful neighborhood. Conversely, many reviewers describe neglectful caregiving, safety lapses, poor cleanliness in resident areas, and administrative problems. The result is a polarized profile in which the facility is seen as either commendable or seriously deficient depending on the reviewer.

Care quality is one of the most frequent and contentious themes. Several reviews praise attentive, knowledgeable staff and good patient care, and some note effective therapy and rehab services. Other reviews counter that CNAs regularly refuse to provide showers, personal care is neglected, transfer delays and the absence of rehab contributed to very poor outcomes including a reported patient death, and multiple reviewers explicitly state they would not recommend the facility. Complaints also include terrible food in some accounts. This inconsistency suggests large variability in day-to-day care or differences between units or shifts.

Staff behavior and culture are similarly mixed. Positive accounts call the environment loving, calm, and familial, and credit teams with strong collaboration and support for sister sites during crises. Several reviewers highlight friendly, efficient staff and that some employees are treated well with good pay and flexible schedules. On the negative side, there are repeated reports of disrespectful or neglectful caregivers, staff who react poorly when concerns are raised, and allegations of unprofessional conduct including loud music, littering, and screaming matches in the parking lot. Housekeepers are specifically mentioned as friendlier than caregiving staff in some reviews, indicating uneven performance across roles.

Safety and neighborhood impacts are notable concerns. Reviews allege dangerous driving by employees, stop-sign violations, residents escaping the property, and drug use on nearby trails. Others call the facility a blight on the neighborhood because of noise and litter. These safety-related complaints coexist with praise for emergency preparedness — several reviewers specifically commend the center for holding through a storm without flooding thanks to generators and organized evacuation support. The juxtaposition suggests that while the facility may perform well in acute crisis management, there are ongoing day-to-day safety and community issues that need attention.

Facility condition and cleanliness again show mixed impressions. Some reviewers report clean, odor-free spaces and appreciate the two large patios and a quiet setting. Others describe urine smells, dirty shared bathrooms housing multiple residents, and an overall need for remodeling and deep cleaning. These inconsistent reports could reflect variability over time, by area within the center, or between shifts and teams of staff responsible for maintenance.

Management, records, and administrative practices raise serious concerns in multiple reviews. Allegations include manipulation of medical records, missing or misfiled documents, and reviewers saying they needed to frequently check charts themselves. HIPAA/privacy worries are specifically cited. There are also comments about a tipping policy and perceived management indifference to resident wellbeing, contributing to distrust. At the same time, some reviews commend management or the organized response during emergencies, indicating uneven leadership perceptions.

Activities and employee experience receive more consistently positive remarks. An activity program to engage residents, clearly designated patios for smokers and non-smokers, and reports of knowledgeable, efficient therapists stand out as strengths. Staff-focused reviews also mention good pay, flexible scheduling, and a supportive workplace for employees, which may help with recruitment and retention if applied broadly.

In summary, Egret Cove Center presents a bifurcated picture: there are credible reports of an effective, caring, and well-prepared team that delivers good therapy, clean areas, and strong emergency response. At the same time, there are multiple serious allegations — neglect of basic care, safety violations, poor sanitation in some areas, food complaints, and troubling administrative lapses including record mismanagement and privacy concerns. These conflicting themes point to significant inconsistency in resident experience and operational reliability. Prospective residents, families, and oversight bodies should consider both the praise and the recurrent negative patterns, and where possible verify current staffing, cleanliness, safety practices, and administrative controls before making placement decisions.

    About Egret Cove Center

Egret Cove Center sits as a Skilled Nursing Home with 120 certified beds, where you'll find a mix of short-term and long-term care, and the place takes Medicaid and Medicare, which can be important for some families. The staff includes Certified Nursing Assistants, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurses, all offering round-the-clock skilled nursing care supervised by a doctor, and there's over 210 years of combined professional experience shared across the team, so people can feel like someone's always on hand who knows what they're doing. Residents get a range of services, like social services, activities, nutritional programs, housekeeping, and laundry, and the clinical side covers cardiac care, diabetes management, pain management, and programs for stroke rehabilitation, care after an amputation, and wound care, which not every place can offer. There's a therapy gym that stands out because it has an innovative obstacle course, and professional therapists provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy, focusing both on skilled rehabilitation and helping folks transition back home after something like a hospital stay. The facility keeps a nurse-to-resident ratio with 3.12 nurse hours per resident per day, but the nurse turnover rate is 53.6%, so that's something to consider. Egret Cove Center earned 20 deficiencies in recent inspections, with one infection-related, and also had some issues around infection control, pharmacy services, and making sure there's a working call system in each resident's bathroom and bathing area. As a non-profit, owned by those with at least a 5% stake and part of Hearthstone Senior Communities, the facility is committed to care that encourages respect, empathy, and dignity, emphasizing clear communication and the involvement of residents, patients, and families in making care decisions, and you can expect holistic and restorative services especially suited for those who can't live independently anymore. Staff pride themselves on compassion, and the support staff bring over 80 collective years of experience, embracing diversity, learning, and being responsive to the needs of the local community, so for those looking for somewhere with a wide range of nursing and rehabilitation options, Egret Cove Center stands as a choice with a mix of strengths and areas it's still working on, with all care focused on planning for each resident's goals and needs.
