    Caring staff but inconsistent management

I placed my mom here and overall I'm grateful for the loving, professional staff - nurses, caregivers and the nurse practitioner gave excellent personal attention, the facility is very clean and safe, rooms are roomy, meals are generally tasty, and activities/social time kept her engaged. It's affordable and most staff are warm and attentive (special shoutout to Liana). That said, there have been staffing and management inconsistencies - weekend understaffing, spotty housekeeping/communication and occasional safety concerns - so experiences vary. I'd recommend it for care quality but suggest confirming current staffing and leadership stability before moving in.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews present a mixed but strongly polarized picture of Liana of Sarasota | Memory Care. A substantial portion of reviewers praise the facility for warm, engaged caregiving, a clean and comfortable environment, good meals, and an active social program—several reviewers explicitly call it the best memory-care option in the area and give five-star impressions. At the same time, a notable minority of reviews report serious operational problems centered on staffing, management, safety, and inconsistent service delivery. These two strands create a pattern where experiences vary widely: some families describe near-ideal care and outcomes, while others report unacceptable issues that led them to remove residents quickly.

Care quality and staff: Many reviews emphasize that caregivers are loving, attentive, and provide personal attention; multiple reviewers describe residents “lighting up” when staff arrive and cite specific positive outcomes (for example, weight gain and good adjustment after move-in). A nurse practitioner is singled out as professional and communicative, and some reviews call out outstanding nursing leadership. Activities staff and programming receive consistent positive comments—residents are engaged in stimulating activities, regular entertainment, and animal visits, which reviewers value highly. However, these positive notes are offset by frequent comments about chronic understaffing, low staff-to-resident ratios, high turnover, and weekend staffing shortages. Several reviews report too many staff changes, including an instance where two employees walked off, and at least one family removed a resident after only five days due to staffing/safety concerns. These staffing problems appear to be the single largest driver of negative experiences when they occur.

Facilities, housekeeping, and safety: Many reviewers describe the facility as clean, tidy, and well laid-out, with large private rooms and pleasant spaces for socializing and relaxation. Positive comments include timely meals, no urine odor reported in some cases, and generally well-kept rooms. Conversely, other reviewers report specific cleanliness failures—dirty bathrooms, trash not emptied, laundry piling up—and express personal safety or security concerns, particularly regarding private-room security. This suggests inconsistency in housekeeping and safety practices across time or between units. Those inconsistencies, when present, are serious enough to undermine trust for some families.

Dining and activities: The dining program is another area of mixed feedback. Many reviewers praise the food as delicious, healthy, and home-cooked, and appreciate the regularity and timeliness of meals. Yet a handful of reviews call the food “horrible,” indicating that meal quality may vary by dining shift, menu cycle, or time period. Activities are consistently reported as a strength: reviewers commonly note social opportunities, relaxation areas, regular entertainment, and special visits (e.g., animals), which contribute meaningfully to resident engagement and family satisfaction.

Management, communication, and patterns of concern: Management receives markedly mixed reviews. Several reviewers rave about impeccable leadership and extraordinary leadership, while others describe dysfunctional, monetarily driven management and note that a management overhaul in November 2023 failed to resolve problems. Communication is similarly divided: some families praise the nurse practitioner and staff for clear, professional communication, while others complain of poor family communication and that the facility is not visitor-friendly to questions. The recurrence of staffing changes, failed management fixes, and the report of employees walking off points to systemic operational instability affecting service consistency. Reports that contracted services are not always met amplify concerns about reliability.

Conclusion: In summary, Liana of Sarasota appears capable of delivering very high-quality, compassionate memory care—many families report exemplary staff, engaging programs, good food, a clean environment, and affordable, all-inclusive pricing. However, there is a clear and consequential minority of reviews describing serious issues with staffing, management, cleanliness, safety, and inconsistent care that, in at least some cases, led families to remove residents quickly. Prospective families should weigh both sets of experiences: ask specific, time-sensitive questions about current staffing levels and turnover, weekend coverage, recent management changes (noting the November 2023 overhaul referenced), concrete housekeeping and laundry protocols, security measures for private rooms, and how the facility communicates with families. Request recent staffing rosters, examples of quality-improvement actions taken after staff walk-offs, and, if possible, speak directly with current families to gauge whether the positive experiences or the concerning reports better reflect the facility’s present operations.
