    Once caring, now poorly managed

I placed my mom here because the small, family-owned home and the observant, loving staff provided attentive, home-cooked meals and very good day-to-day care. After new owners cut the budget we saw a bare fridge, favorite foods gone, old worn furniture with only one recliner, and septic problems that left residents using shared commodes for long periods. Dog therapy ended after the owner's dog became aggressive and I heard the owner yell in front of residents - safety and accommodations clearly suffered. The staff did their best and put residents first, but high out-of-pocket costs and management issues made the overall value poor.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but consistent in one clear strength: the caregiving staff. Multiple reviewers describe the staff as attentive, loving, observant, patient, and accommodating. The small size of the home (examples mention six residents with two caregivers) contributes to highly personalized care, and several families reported no complaints from their loved ones, praised the staff's responsiveness, and recommended the facility. Some reviewers even ranked the home among the top local options and noted an open-door policy and a family-owned, home-like atmosphere.

Despite strong praise for the caregivers, there are substantial and recurring concerns about facilities, management, and basic accommodations. Several reviews report that new ownership brought budget cuts that affected meals and supplies; reviewers described a bare-bones fridge and favorite foods being unavailable. Furniture is a repeated point of contention: multiple reviewers say furnishings are old, recliners are worn and unsupportive, and there may be only one comfortable recliner for residents. At least one review contradicts this, noting furniture in good condition, which highlights inconsistent experiences or recent changes.

A particularly serious cluster of complaints involves sanitation and dignity of care related to plumbing/septic issues. Reviews indicate the septic system was full, resulting in residents being required to use commodes for extended periods (reported as 24+ hours) and commodes being shared among roughly six residents. These reports raise urgent concerns about hygiene, resident dignity, and regulatory compliance. Some reviewers explicitly state that residents suffered as a result. This issue, combined with reports of budget-driven cutbacks, suggests operational stress that is affecting fundamental aspects of care.

Management and ownership behavior is another prominent theme. Several reviewers referenced new owners and confusion about ownership status. Some allege removal of previously offered pet therapy, cite the owner's dog as aggressive, and report the owner yelling at staff or in front of residents. These accounts raise safety and leadership concerns that contrast sharply with descriptions of devoted frontline staff. The combination of perceived mismanagement, unprofessional behavior by ownership, and increased out-of-pocket costs has led some families to judge the facility as poor value despite positive reports about individual caregivers.

Social programming and activities appear limited in this small setting. Reviewers mention home-cooked meals and occasional birthday parties, but also note there are not many activities. For families who value a quiet, intimate environment with strong one-on-one caregiving, this may be acceptable or even desirable. For those expecting more structured programming, social events, or therapy options (including animal therapy), the facility may fall short.

In summary, the dominant pattern is a strong caregiving team providing personalized, compassionate attention within a small, home-like facility, paired with serious operational problems and mixed signals about management. The most pressing negative issues reported are septic/plumbing failures causing prolonged commode use and shared equipment, budget-driven reductions in food and supplies, worn furniture, and troubling reports about the owner's behavior and pet policies. Because some reviews contradict others (for example, on meal quality and furniture condition), prospective families should verify current conditions in person: ask about recent ownership changes, septic/plumbing remediation, staffing levels, meal plans and fridge stocking, furniture and seating availability, pet policies and behavior management, activity schedules, and a clear accounting of fees and out-of-pocket costs. Those who prioritize individualized, attentive caregiving in a small setting may find the staff and daily care highly satisfactory; those for whom facility condition, sanitation, transparent management, and robust programming are critical should investigate further before committing.
