    Beautiful facility; inconsistent, neglectful care

I'm torn. The facility is beautiful, spotless, with large accessible rooms and excellent rehab staff - some employees were very helpful and assisted with paperwork - but care is wildly inconsistent. I've seen rude, neglectful behavior (residents left in soiled diapers for hours, untreated wounds), denied visitation/privacy issues, and constant staff turnover. Meals and activities are poor despite the very high cost. Proceed with caution - this place needs investigation.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is highly mixed, with strong praise for the facility's physical environment and rehabilitation services alongside serious and repeated concerns about clinical care, staff behavior, and management consistency. Multiple reviewers highlight the building itself as attractive, bright, and well-maintained: large one-bedroom units, handicap-accessible bathrooms, updated appliances, refrigerators in rooms, daily housekeeping, and amenities such as a movie theater and designated activity spaces. Several families were pleased with rehabilitation outcomes and physical therapy, calling the rehab staff "amazing" and noting they were always available when called. Other reviewers also praised individual staff members, saying some employees are kind, helpful, and assisted with matters like power of attorney, and the executive director was described as responsive in certain instances.

However, a significant cluster of reviews raises urgent concerns about the quality and consistency of nursing and medical care. Multiple summaries allege neglectful or abusive behaviors—examples include residents being left in soiled diapers for extended periods, claims of open wounds not being treated, and nurses or care staff disappearing or telling family/patient to "do it yourself." These are serious allegations suggesting lapses in basic hygiene, wound care, and supervision. In addition to clinical neglect, reviewers reported intimidation or obstruction around visitation (denied visits, lied-about visiting) and troubling administrative behaviors such as refusal to provide caregiver names and alleged misrepresentation of HIPAA policies. A few reviewers explicitly called for investigation or even shutdown, indicating that some families view the problems as severe enough to warrant external oversight.

There is a clear pattern of inconsistency: many positive statements about cleanliness and staff availability are contradicted by equally strong negative statements about smell, filthy conditions, or unresponsive personnel. This variation may reflect differences between units or shifts, high staff turnover, or inconsistent implementation of corporate policies. Several reviewers said care and services have declined over time (noting a decline since 2016) and accused corporate office staff of failing to deliver promised services, reinforcing a theme of managerial or system-level failure contributing to uneven care.

Dining and activities also show a split picture. Some residents and families praise the activities department and list a variety of programming (daily bingo, manicures, movies, Sunday church, outdoor time), and others reported improved meals and overall happiness with food during rehab. Conversely, many reviewers criticized meal quality—describing food as canned, repetitive (hot dogs multiple times in a week), cold, or generally awful—and said activities were poorly run or insufficient, leaving residents bored. This contrast again points to variability in service depending on day, unit, or staffing.

Cost and accommodation issues are additional themes. Several reviewers call the community "expensive" or "ungodly expensive," and some complain about lack of privacy due to shared rooms with only curtains between roommates. Conversely, others praised private one-bedroom rooms and the physical accommodations, indicating again that experience may vary by room type or contract. Practical complaints such as long walks from entrances to some rooms and rooms positioned far into the building were mentioned and could affect mobility for some residents.

Management and corporate responsiveness receive mixed reviews: while a few reviewers commend an engaged executive director and caring staff, others report unresponsiveness from corporate leadership and a failure to address recurring problems. High staff turnover was cited as a cause of declining service and inconsistency. Taken together, the reviews suggest the Village at Vienna Square provides strong rehabilitation services and has a well-appointed, clean physical environment in many respects, but also demonstrates troubling variability in clinical care, staff behavior, meal quality, and activity programming. Families considering this community should probe current staffing levels, request specifics about nursing oversight and incident reporting, ask about visitation policies and transparency (including caregiver identification and HIPAA practices), confirm meal plans and activity schedules, and tour the specific unit and room options they would occupy to assess whether the positive or negative experiences described align with current operations.
