    Great therapy, unsafe for long-term

I found the building beautiful, clean, and therapy outstanding-skilled PT/OT, lots of activities and therapy-animal visits helped with recovery. The staff I met were warm and caring, but chronic understaffing and poor management caused long call-light delays, missed meds/IV/PICC errors, hygiene failures (wet/soiled bedding, missed baths) and very poor communication (phones often unanswered). Those gaps created safety incidents, delayed emergency response, and bedsores for some residents. Management was often unresponsive while several front-line caregivers went above and beyond. Bottom line: excellent short-term rehab in a lovely setting if you can advocate, but I would not trust it for long-term or high-medical-need care.

    About The Oaks - Athens

The Oaks - Athens sits there with air conditioning to keep everyone comfortable and restrooms that make life easier, and the place is built for wheelchairs, so getting around isn't a problem, and you'll see there's parking for visitors and outdoor seating for anyone who wants some fresh air, with wifi in the common rooms if you want to look something up or message people, and the facility's run by PruittHealth, which means there are skilled nurses and assistants who really know how to help older folks, especially those living with dementia or Alzheimer's, and the memory care section is set up with safety features and trained staff so it's easier for residents to stay healthy and calm, and they've got these individualized care plans to match each person's needs, so everyone gets a bit more attention, plus you get social activities, arts and crafts, educational programs, and even some health and wellness stuff to keep people busy and engaged, and the meals and dining services mean you don't have to cook unless you want to, although some rooms have kitchens or kitchenettes if you like doing things for yourself, and safety things like sprinkler systems and handicap features are just standard, making it feel secure, while washers and dryers are handy so residents don't have to fuss with clothes, and there's cable TV if you feel like just sitting and relaxing; for those needing more help, personal care assistants pitch in, and transportation's available for trips out of the building, and staff handle the laundry, housekeeping, and even have a pharmacy, therapy, infusion services, and medical supplies on hand. The property also comes with a fitness center and a salon/barbershop if you want a trim, plus a dining room and a game or activities room for more ways to spend the day. Residents can get Home First, home health, hospice, palliative care, and all sorts of therapy, so all sorts of care needs can be addressed as they come up, and the main focus is on memory care, which sets it apart from other senior housing, though there's assisted living too, all in a setting that's built to handle the challenges that sometimes come with getting older.
