    Clean facility, unsafe inconsistent care

I had mixed experiences. The facility is clean and beautiful, therapy (PT/OT/speech) and some nurses/techs were excellent and caring, and the kitchen/food and amenities are good. But staffing is inconsistent-weekends are thin, communication is poor, and I witnessed unsafe medication and wound-care lapses, ignored concerns, even alleged theft and harm that administration wouldn't adequately address. Family involvement and discharge planning varied widely; some staff were amazing, others uncaring or rude. Because of serious safety and accountability issues, I cannot confidently recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews for Harrington Park Health & Rehabilitation are highly polarized, showing a mixture of strong praise and serious criticisms. Many reviewers describe exceptional rehabilitation services, compassionate individual staff members, and a clean, well-appointed facility with good amenities. Conversely, a substantial number of reviews raise very serious concerns about inconsistent care, communication failures, safety incidents, and administrative shortcomings. These divergent accounts point to large variability in resident experience that appears to depend on shift, unit, individual staff members, or specific clinical situations.

Therapy and clinical rehabilitation: One of the most consistent positive themes is the quality of therapy. Multiple reviewers explicitly praise physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech therapy teams as outstanding, noting measurable functional gains, clear explanations of therapy goals, and strong coordination with discharge planning and home health. Several families called Harrington Park the "best inpatient rehab facility" they experienced. However, other reviewers reported inadequate rehab — patients left worse off, dehydrated, or without meaningful therapy. This contrast suggests that while therapy teams can be exceptional, their performance is not uniformly experienced by all patients.

Nursing, daily care, and safety: Reviews about nursing and CNA care are mixed and often contradictory. Many reviewers report excellent nursing attention, respectful CNAs, and timely medical adjustments. Yet numerous serious complaints describe missed baths, inadequate grooming, inattentive CNAs, failure to assist with repositioning (increasing risk for bedsores), and lapses in wound care. Some reviewers allege grave outcomes — missed follow-up labs, suspected infections, and in at least one account sepsis and death — which they attribute to neglect. There are also reports of unsafe medication administration and an instance claiming a medication-related bleeding ulcer. The pattern is one of inconsistency: some residents receive careful, attentive nursing; others experience neglect or errors with potentially severe consequences.

Staffing, communication, and administration: A recurring operational theme is staffing inconsistency, particularly on weekends and during certain shifts. Reviewers repeatedly call for more staffing and describe weekend help as "awful" or sparse. Communication problems are frequently mentioned: families were ignored or given insufficient discharge information, questions went unanswered, and some report being stonewalled by administration. While some administrators and liaisons are praised for being conscientious and responsive, others — including a reviewer who named an administrator (Andrea) — were described as unresponsive. Reports of staff "cliques," perceived ethnic bias, rude check-in staff, and an unwillingness to investigate complaints further underscore concerns about workplace culture and accountability.

Facilities, dining, and activities: The facility's physical plant and amenities receive generally positive comments. Multiple reviews describe a beautiful, clean environment with helpful maintenance staff, comfortable rooms, a therapy pool, salon services, and activities such as bingo and games. Food impressions are mixed but tend toward positive: several families praise the kitchen as accommodating and the meals as good or delicious, while at least one reviewer called the food "institutional." There are isolated reports of thickener unavailability for diet consistency, though in some cases speech therapists or kitchen staff remedied the issue.

Security, belongings, and trust issues: Several reviews raise disturbing allegations of theft or missing items (watch, microwave, vase), and some families reported that belongings disappeared without clear accountability. These reports, together with other complaints about staff attitude and unresponsiveness, contribute to eroded trust for some families. A few reviewers mentioned that they filed formal complaints or lawsuits and suggested the facility might face regulatory or legal scrutiny.

Discharge planning and dementia care: Experiences with discharge planning are mixed. Some families were actively involved, reported thoughtful plans for home health, and praised the coordination with outpatient providers. Others say they received little or no discharge information and in one case a parent was "kicked out" after a few days. Multiple reviews specifically note problems with dementia care or an unwillingness to work with dementia patients, and at least one social worker interaction was described as rude. These comments indicate uneven capacity or willingness to manage cognitive impairment and transitions of care.

Patterns and takeaways: The most notable overall pattern is variability. Many reviews attest to excellent therapy, kind staff, clean facilities, and strong clinical management. At the same time, an alarming minority report neglect, safety incidents, and administrative failures significant enough to cause harm or loss. Staffing shortages (weekends and certain shifts), communication breakdowns, and a lack of consistent accountability emerge as cross-cutting issues that likely drive the variability in patient experiences. Specific recurring concerns — wound care follow-up, mobilization to prevent bedsores, medication safety, theft/missing items, and dementia-specific care — are areas that reviewers repeatedly flagged.

Recommendations for families and decision-makers: Prospective families should recognize that experiences at Harrington Park can range from exemplary to seriously problematic. Ask about staffing levels on weekends and nights, request detailed plans for wound care and infection surveillance, confirm how medications are administered and reconciled, and inquire about security measures for personal belongings. If a loved one has dementia, clarify the facility's experience and protocols for cognitive impairment. When possible, get names of primary therapists, nurses, and the attending provider, and establish a single point of contact for communication. For the facility: addressing staffing consistency, strengthening complaint investigation and accountability, improving weekend coverage, and ensuring reliable diet/medication processes would likely reduce the most severe complaints and the variability in outcomes.

In summary, Harrington Park Health & Rehabilitation receives strong praise for therapy services, many clinicians, and the facility environment, but it also faces serious and recurring criticisms about care consistency, safety, and administration. The reviews collectively paint a picture of a facility capable of high-quality care but with operational and cultural issues that put some residents at risk. Families should weigh the positive reports of excellent rehab and caring staff against the documented concerns, ask direct questions, and monitor care closely if choosing this facility.

The center's accredited, managed by Clinical Services Inc. since 2015, and connected to Health Scholarships, Inc. as a non-profit.

Harrington Park accepts both Medicare and Medicaid and has all sorts of folks here from Augusta and the surrounding area, and while the facility gets decent marks for medical care and staffing, some inspection reports note deficiencies in care planning, resident rights, and measures supporting residents' range of motion-these haven't caused actual harm but raise some things to watch for. Nurses work an average of 3.66 hours per resident per day, which is above the state average, though nurse turnover's a bit higher than other places at 52.5%. People often say the staff is compassionate, and the outdoor spaces make for nice afternoons, so all in all, it feels like a straightforward place that aims to support older adults and people needing rehab or extra medical care.
