    Kind staff but facility problems

I hate this facility - the renal diet isn't followed, a caregiver keeps her grandbaby here full-time and sometimes screams at residents, there's no private room, activities are limited, and it sits on a steep hill that's hard in rain or snow. That said, the owner and staff are incredibly kind and attentive: residents are treated well and kept safe during COVID, fed three meals a day in a clean, homey small-house setting with safety railings and comfortable sitting rooms.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of Ritchglow Personal Care Home skew positively around the quality of direct care and the personal, home-like environment. Multiple reviewers emphasize that staff are kind, caring, and attentive — residents were described as being treated well, fed well, and kept safe during the COVID period. The facility is repeatedly characterized as small and cozy rather than institutional, which many reviewers view as a benefit for personal attention and a family-style atmosphere.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme across the reviews is strong praise for caregivers and the quality of hands-on care. Phrases like "incredible kindness," "wonderful staff," and "great care" appear alongside specific notes that residents were loved, cared for, and kept safe. Several reviewers singled out owner/management positively, suggesting that leadership contributes to the supportive tone. However, there are serious countervailing comments from at least one reviewer reporting troubling staff behavior — specifically a caregiver reportedly yelling at residents and a caregiver having a grandchild present on-site full time. These negative reports appear less frequent but are significant; they indicate inconsistent experiences and warrant verification by prospective families.

Facilities and safety: The home is described as clean and comfortable, with clean bathrooms and kitchen, comfortable sitting rooms, safety railings, and separate gender-specific bathrooms. The small-house layout is clearly a defining feature: reviewers call it homey and appreciate the limited capacity for a more personal environment. That same small scale is also a limitation for some: there is a lack of private rooms and fewer facility amenities, and several reviewers note the place is "not fancy." Practical access is another consistent concern — the property sits on a hill, creating potential problems in rain or snow, which could be a safety and logistics issue for visitors and emergency access.

Dining and dietary management: Multiple reviews note that three meals a day are provided and that residents are fed well, reinforcing the perception of dependable daily care. However, one reviewer alleges renal-diet non-compliance. Because dietary needs can be medically critical, this single but specific allegation contrasts with otherwise positive comments about meals and should be investigated directly by asking management about diet protocols, staff training, and how specialized diets are monitored.

Activities, programming, and overall environment: Reviewers report limited indoor activities, which aligns with the facility's small, home-style model; recreational programming appears minimal. This may suit residents who value quiet, consistent personal care but may disappoint families looking for a broader activity calendar. The facility's simplicity and lack of "fanciness" are consistent motifs: it favors a basic, clean, intimate living experience over extensive amenities or activity offerings.

Patterns and recommendations for prospective families: The pattern is clear — Ritchglow offers warm, attentive caregiving in a small, home-like setting with clean facilities and consistent meal service. The strongest positives relate to staff kindness and individualized attention. The main trade-offs are small scale (limited privacy and amenities), activity limitations, and logistical concerns tied to the hillside location in inclement weather. Notably, there are isolated but serious negative reports about staff conduct (yelling at residents) and diet non-compliance, as well as on-site childcare, which could indicate lapses or one-off incidents rather than systemic failures; nonetheless, they are substantial enough to merit direct questions during a visit.

In summary: Ritchglow appears well-suited for families seeking a small, homey personal care environment with highly praised caregivers and reliable, basic services. Before committing, prospective residents and families should tour the home, request documentation of dietary protocols and staff training, ask about staffing policies (including any outside or family members present on-site), observe staff-resident interactions if possible, and evaluate accessibility during bad weather. This will help confirm that the generally positive care culture described in most reviews is consistent and that the specific concerns raised have been addressed.
