    Caring staff safe clean home

I had a very positive experience - the staff were caring and attentive, the home was very clean and well maintained, and the meals were healthy and varied. They offer activities, transportation to the activity center, and a wheelchair-accessible restroom/shower; I felt safe and well cared for. The owner is friendly and it felt like good value - I would recommend this care home.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed but specific picture of care and operations. Positive comments emphasize respectful, attentive caregivers, a clean and well-maintained facility, and meals described as healthy and varied. Residents and families also noted onsite activities and regular transportation to a senior activity center, which reviewers saw as valuable for engagement. Several reviewers highlighted transparent pricing for private and semi-private rooms and an owner who interacts positively with families, contributing to a sense of value.

At the same time, there are substantive operational concerns that prospective families should evaluate. Some accounts point to gaps in resident supervision and elopement-prevention practices; these describe situations where oversight and monitoring did not function as expected. Relatedly, reviewers described inconsistent communication practices — particularly phone etiquette — and identified variability in staffing reliability and oversight. Together these items suggest potential weaknesses in day-to-day supervision, shift coverage, and staff communication standards.

Facility features are generally praised for cleanliness and maintenance, and some units include accessible restroom and shower facilities. However, accessibility appears inconsistent: at least one reviewer found bathroom layouts too small for certain mobility devices. The facility’s atmosphere was described by some as more institutional than homelike, which may be relevant for families prioritizing a residential rather than clinical feel.

A small number of reviews raised very serious concerns, including concerns following a resident's death and allegations of severe misconduct. Those accounts focus attention on the facility’s incident-response protocols, family notification practices, and escalation procedures. Because these are serious individual claims, prospective families should request documentation of clinical-incident policies, elopement-prevention measures, staff training records, and recent inspection or licensing reports when evaluating the community.

In summary, strengths center on attentive caregiving, meal quality, activities, and an orderly facility presentation. Areas for further inquiry are supervision and oversight practices, consistent accessibility for residents with mobility needs, communications standards, and the facility’s policies for incident response and family notification. Prospective residents and their families would be wise to tour the home, review staffing ratios and training programs, verify accessibility in specific rooms, and ask for formal explanations of any significant incidents or regulatory findings before making placement decisions.

About Usher Residential & Community Services

Usher Residential & Community Services sits over at 2165 Glendale Dr in Decatur, Georgia, where folks will find a small, close-knit home with only 6 licensed beds, so the community's quieter and homeier than you'd see in bigger places, and residents get more individual attention from staff like nurses on site or on call, aides, and visiting professionals including a podiatrist, dentist, and doctor as needed, and they've built the place with safety in mind by putting in non-slip floors, safe apartment setups, ADA-compliant bathrooms, and big walkways and decks where people can sit and get some fresh air, as well as panic buttons and mobility help if anyone needs it. Residents can pick a one-bedroom, private, or semi-private room, with prices changing depending on the type, and they do allow pets, so folks won't have to give up their companions, and whether men or women, all can settle in here.

Care here covers assisted living, residential care home support, memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia, and non-ambulatory support for those needing help moving around, plus there's continence management, a dressing assistance service, custom care plans, and even special support for Parkinson's patients, and you'll get medication help, health checks, and simple personal care too. For seniors who need more, hospice care and respite stays are available. The center doesn't take Medicare unless certified but gives monthly rates for both private and shared rooms.

Meals get handled by chefs and meal planners aiming for nutritious, good-tasting food, and the laundry and housekeeping staff keep things tidy. Residents can join arts and crafts, fitness and therapy classes, and there's always something going on, including social and devotional events, theater, outings, and a regular calendar of on and offsite activities, both fun and for health. The grounds are landscaped and have walking paths for a stroll, and inside there are common areas, a dining hall, beauty and barber services, Wi-Fi, and spots for visitors to park.

Families will be glad to know that all the care-like continence services, help with daily needs, and ongoing health monitoring-is set up to maintain as much independence as possible for residents, with a focus on community and support, and staff get recognized for being kind and helpful, which goes a long way in a small site like this. The center's picked up "Best of Senior Living" awards, which folks say is thanks to programs, activities, and a steady aim to make life easy, safe, and comfortable. With a 3.5 star rating, Usher Residential & Community Services isn't perfect, but it does offer a solid, all-round caring place for seniors needing a simpler, quieter living option with individual attention.
