Miss Willie's Manor sits on a quiet cul-de-sac in northern Georgia and looks like a traditional Southern home with its one-story stone facade, and the place feels peaceful and safe with small touches that make it feel more like a home than a facility, since it only cares for five residents at a time, making it good for people who want a more personal setting. Founded by Karen Romaine Thomas after her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, the home was built for seniors with memory loss, dementia, or Alzheimer's, and it has a separate, purpose-built memory care section that stays secure using a wander alert system, bracelets that ring if someone leaves, and a computerized system to help staff keep residents safe if they're at risk of wandering or elopement. The staff-including nurses on site and a doctor on call-help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and all activities of daily living, plus medication management that can include insulin injections and blood sugar tests for those with diabetes, and they offer help to residents who can't walk or need help transferring, even with mechanical lifts if need be. The home provides 24-hour supervision, high acuity care, memory care, respite stays, and hospice care, so people can stay even if their needs change, with individualized plans shaped by over 30 years of nursing experience and frequent visits from therapists, a dentist, a podiatrist, and other healthcare workers to support both physical and mental health. Residents have private bathrooms, wheelchair-accessible showers, and communal spaces for dining and activities, plus Wi-Fi, high-speed internet, pet-friendly rules, and beauty and barber services to help everyone feel comfortable and at home. Meals come scheduled in the dining room with different choices for diabetic or allergy-sensitive diets, and the kitchen staff can help with low- or no-sodium or sugar diets as needed, while laundry and housekeeping services, move-in coordination, and transportation for appointments or shopping trips all make daily life a bit easier. People can take part in a range of activities, from creative arts, cooking, and stretching classes, to movie nights, gardening, trivia, shopping trips offsite, and devotional services for those who want spiritual support, and the home includes a garden, outdoor walking paths, and both indoor and outdoor common spaces to encourage socialization and staying active. Miss Willie's Manor is run by Labor of Love Adult Care, and family members say the care here is loving, attentive, and genuine, with the staff always focused on keeping everyone safe, well cared for, and treated with warmth and respect.
Compassionate, home-like care with waitlist
I am so grateful we found this home. Don and Karen and their compassionate, hands-on staff gave my mom a peaceful transition into a spotless, home-like setting where she's happy, well-fed with home-cooked meals, engaged in activities, and receiving attentive, dignified care (even excellent end-of-life support). The small, family atmosphere and trustworthy, responsive owners/staff are far better than larger facilities - highly recommended, but expect a waiting list.
