    Compassionate staff spotless homey community

I moved my mom in and we are extremely pleased - compassionate, professional staff treat residents like family and consistently go above and beyond. The community is spotless, homey, and well-managed with beautiful apartments, medication assistance and rehab, lots of activities/holiday events, and a lakeside patio that feels safe and welcoming. Minor issues (remote location, occasional night-staffing and parking/grounds maintenance, and a recent rent increase) have been handled promptly by responsive management.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with recurring praise focused primarily on the quality of care and the staff. Reviewers consistently describe staff as friendly, knowledgeable, compassionate, and willing to go above and beyond; many comments emphasize that staff treat residents like family and are quick to respond when issues arise. Multiple families reported noticeable improvements in loved ones' conditions after receiving care or rehabilitation at the facility, and several noted successful home health rehab interactions and optimistic prognoses (for example, hopes for improved mobility). Clinical supports are highlighted as a strength, including on-site podiatry, medication assistance, and coordinated home health services.

Facility condition and atmosphere are frequently mentioned in favorable terms. Words used by reviewers include clean, fresh, airy, spotless, and well-maintained. Apartments receive positive remarks for being spacious (one- and two-bedroom layouts) with plenty of closet space and the ability to furnish units from home. The lakeside location and outdoor patio are noted as attractive features. Common areas, decorated rooms for holidays, and a welcoming dining/communication area contribute to a homey, comfortable environment. Safety is also emphasized: reviewers appreciate constant staff presence and families report feeling that their loved ones are secure and well cared for.

Dining and activities are regular points of praise. Many reviewers describe the meals as home-cooked and enjoyable, with weekly menus and a positive dining atmosphere. Activities and programming come up frequently: holiday celebrations, Halloween parties, movie nights, card games, library resources, and family events are specifically mentioned. These offerings support an active social environment and help residents feel included and celebrated. That said, reviewers also note that activity levels can vary by time of day — one comment observed that there was “not much going on at 10:15” — indicating that engagement may not be uniformly busy at all hours.

Management and communication receive strong positive marks. Families describe management as informative, attentive, and willing to walk them through every step of the process. Staff coordination and responsiveness to families’ needs are called out repeatedly, and many reviewers recommend the community based on these operational strengths. The facility also earns praise for holiday decorations and efforts that make residents feel special daily, which reinforces the family-like atmosphere many reviewers describe.

Several recurring concerns should be noted. Staffing challenges are mentioned in more than one review, with a specific callout that night staffing may be insufficient. While most families felt care needs were met, at least one reviewer indicated that a loved one needed a higher level of care than the facility could provide, suggesting that the community may be best suited to residents who do not require intensive skilled nursing. Grounds and maintenance issues appear intermittently: reviewers reported high grass, a broken mower, and parking problems, which contrast with the many comments praising cleanliness inside the facility. Some reviewers also noted that parts of the building feel dated or “not new,” and a 16.5% rent increase was explicitly mentioned as a financial concern.

In summary, The Overlook Senior Living is presented across reviews as a caring, well-run community with standout staff, solid clinical support, clean facilities, good food, and active social programming. Management and family communication are strengths, and many families report positive rehabilitation experiences and a comforting, family-like culture. Potential residents and families should weigh a few consistent caveats: occasional staffing shortages (especially at night), some exterior/grounds maintenance and parking concerns, variability in activity levels at certain times, the facility’s suitability for higher-acuity needs, and recent rent increases. For individuals seeking a warm, community-oriented assisted living environment with strong staff engagement and rehabilitation support, reviewers overwhelmingly recommend The Overlook, while those needing constant high-acuity nursing or easy proximity may want to verify staffing levels and condition of grounds during a tour.

The community verifies reviews to make sure they reflect first-hand experience, and recent reviews give it a 5.0-star rating, partly due to kind service, expert support, and good food-they've even won awards for meals, activities, and their friendly atmosphere.
