    Caring staff but small rooms

I placed a relative here and overall I'm glad I did. The staff were genuinely loving, dedicated, helped with clothes/hair/appointments, encouraged personal items to make rooms homey, and meals/cleaning were solid - residents were tended daily and enjoyed the front porch and church services. Downsides: rooms are small, need remodeling and more storage, staffing seemed short at times, management can be rude, and occasional hygiene issues were noticed. Despite that, my relative was happy, 24-hour visitation was allowed, and I would use the facility again.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans toward appreciation for the staff and day-to-day living supports, tempered by significant concerns about physical space, staffing levels, and management. Multiple reviewers highlight warm, attentive interactions from caregiving staff — describing them as caring, dedicated, loving, and sincere — and they praise specific supports such as help with clothing and hair, accompaniment to appointments, and daily tending of rooms and getting residents out of bed. Those positive experiences lead some family members to say they would use the facility again and appreciate the facility's openness to personalizing rooms to create a homelike environment.

Care quality and staff behavior are key strengths according to several summaries. Reviewers specifically mention staff assisting with personal grooming and appointments, daily room care, and creating opportunities for residents to spend time outdoors on a front porch or attend church services. The availability of 24-hour visitation and the facility's encouragement to bring personal items to make rooms feel like home are repeatedly noted as family-friendly policies that contribute to residents' comfort and family satisfaction. Dining is consistently described positively — meals are enjoyed and the cooking is singled out as a bright spot.

However, multiple reviewers raise concerns about the physical environment and accommodations. Rooms are described as small, not very homey, and lacking adequate storage, which makes it difficult to accommodate residents' belongings and reduce comfort. Several comments suggest the facility needs remodeling or updates; while staff do their best to create a welcoming atmosphere, the limited room size and storage constrain efforts to make spaces feel comfortable and private for patients.

Staffing and management issues emerge as the most serious recurring concerns. While many individual caregivers are praised, reviews also report the facility being short on staff overall, which reviewers link to instances of inadequate care. Management is called out in some summaries as rude, which contrasts with the positive descriptions of frontline staff and suggests inconsistent administrative practices or communication. Hygiene concerns such as resident body odor are reported in at least one summary, which may reflect lapses in personal care that can be tied to staffing shortages or inconsistent supervision.

Summing up, Smith Medical Nursing Center appears to provide compassionate, hands-on care from many of its staff members and offers family-friendly features like 24-hour visitation, church services, and good meals. At the same time, recurring issues around small, dated rooms with limited storage, staffing shortages, and reported management rudeness create notable caveats. Prospective residents and families who prioritize warm caregiver relationships and community activities may find this facility appealing, but they should be aware of the potential for space limitations and occasional lapses in care tied to staffing or administrative problems. Monitoring staffing levels, management interactions, and room accommodations would be advisable for anyone considering or using this facility.
